Glipizide and insulin

Common Questions and Answers about Glipizide and insulin

glucotrol

Avatar f tn I am a type 2 diabetic and I concerned about fasting (religious) and taking glipizide. I have been on metformin for over 14 years and have had to recently add glucotrol to my regimen. I do not have any low blood sugar symptoms at all and I am scared of the time I have to restrain from eating. Is any one else ever dealt with this?
647391 tn?1275016633 I routinely have blood sugars in the 150 range my A!C has been 7.7 and 8.2. I was suppose to have some foot surgery, but it was cancel because of the A1c. It is the 1st time I was told I couldn't have surgery because of the diabetes. My regular doctor signed off on me having surgery. The foot surgeon wouldn't do it. I just didn't think my blood sugar level was of any concern.
4812794 tn?1359497146 Richard Bernstein as it explains well how to use insulin, and also alow carb diet to help reduce how much insulin you actually need.
4117735 tn?1349962369 about it, I made the decision to start insulin and it worked out fine. I was scared at first but with the new pens that they have it is really easy.
2053416 tn?1330411192 Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
Avatar n tn Alternative is insulin. Insulin does have the risk of low blood sugars, but when properly used (and probably in very low doses as you are still having some of your own insulin) it can give excellent blood sugar control.
Avatar n tn am now taking glipizide 5 mg along with colestipol 1gr twice daily and gabapentin 300mg 3 times daily and my blood sugar levels are staying high. First time on all these meds and my sugar levels were fine on lisonpril. Could one of thse being causing the high readings. My diet is the same if not lower in sugar and calories.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year prior to HCV. I've used metformin, glipizide and actos (pioglitizone) for eight years now for DM2 management; including during both HCV treatments. I was eventually successful with interferon therapy, for what it's worth. I can't comment on the victoza; I have no personal experience with it. Reducing insulin resistance might be critical to succesful inteferon-based therapy as well.
Avatar f tn There are several people here who have had expereince with blood sugar problems and treatment. Some used stuff like metformin or even insulin throughout treatment. My expereience was that high blood sugar levels went away while on treatment. That was a result of the red cell killing abilities of the ribavirin.
Avatar n tn sugars between 250-280 daily on metformin glipizide junvia seen doc she put me on lantus 10u did nothing went up to 15u still noting been a few days does it take a while to take effect how much can you take ,also asked to see specialst she said she could do it should i insist to see one?
Avatar f tn t work for me and I was put on Glipizide. We are monitoring that for now to see if it is more successful in keeping the blood sugar in line. I have begun a structured exercise program at a gym, which should help tremendously in controlling the sugar level combined with a healthy diet. Hang in there and be sure to always consult your doctor before making any changes.
Avatar f tn Eventually I went on 1000mg twice a day Janumet, and 2.5XL Glipizide, it worked for a while. I recently gained 8 lbs. but not sure it was the glipizide. On my second day of Victoza, so far ok. Interested to hear what kind of reaction you had to Victoza.
Avatar f tn Hi, what is your hba1c? Fasting over 200 is a definitely a concern. How high does your sugar go after meals? Normal fasting should be < 95 (ideally in the 80s) and you are 2x normal. Have you had antibody testing, c-peptide and insulin levels testing? This would be interesting to know, as possibly you are type 1 not type 2. For insulin, bottom line is, you need to normalize blood sugars.
Avatar f tn ve been a diabetic for 20 years. Had the usual progression from metformin, to glipizide, and finall insulin all together. I knew I wasn't doing right by my diet but it wasn't until I became a widow after 47 years that I decided to do something about it. I set myself up with a diabetes nutritionist. I'm a retired medical assistant who managed group meetings with our diabetic patients so I figured I knew just about everything about DM2. Boy, was I wrong! I learned so much from him.
647391 tn?1275016633 I got my A1c and Glucose results - I had surgery postponed because of my A1C and glucose. Well, it isn't better. The A1C is 8.0 and the glucose is 140. The glucose number is down from before, but still not where it should be. I don't know what I am going to do. The foot surgery isn't going to happen. It is the end of the world, just not the way I want to leave me foot. Is there any hope of bringing it down. I just take a low dose of glipizide in the morning.
Avatar n tn of the ingestion. they started a glucose drip and fed him graham crackers and gator aide and monitored him overnight. My question is .....could it be his glucose level was already low secondary to a developing diabetes type I or can that medicine act that quickly. I think we may have stumbled on to something accidently. I checked his nonfasting glucose level just now and it was 121. Any ideas?
Avatar n tn My mother passed away two years ago with complications from diabetes and both my brother and sister are on insulin and have complications - so I know how important it is. I somehow feel I should be able to turn this around if I keep my exercise increased and really watch the diet, which is what I'm trying. I've lost 3 pounds the past three days. I will attack this aggressively and try to keep on top of this until I see some changes in numbers for the better.
341655 tn?1240368839 t say if you are taking any medications. If so, and especially if it is insulin, it could be too high a dose for you and needs to be evaluated right away. There is a very knowledgeable person on this board named waverider and I hope he will read your post and add to my comments. I had a serious episode of hypoglycemia recently and I know it can be scary. It sounds like you handled it well but don't hesitate to get help. Better to be safe.
Avatar n tn Maintaining control overnight is a very tricky situation and takes a lot of trial and error to get it right. Unfortunately you make find the right dosage of medication that will be just right and suddenly something will change so that dosage no longer is appropriate. My best advise, which I received from my doctor was initially set my alarm to test my blood sugar at differnent times overnight to determine how my blood sugar is reacting.
Avatar n tn Hi Again, Thank you for responding. My levels run in the mid100's and I am on the maximum dosage od glipizide and metformin. I cannot afford the insulin they want to put me on. My main concern is this may be MRSA. I have had klebsiella pnuemonae(sp?) and am worried now I have this. Hopefully it is just my diabetes. What I am really worried about is why they won't fully drain and why it was bleeding for a whole day. If they do not go away in a few days I will have to see a Dr.
Avatar f tn I agree, go back to the hospital and ask for insulin. Read up and educate both yourself and your husband on how and when to use it, especially on dosage times.
Avatar m tn I just started on Lantus and Humalog and my blood sugars seem to keep going up, I take 30 U at night Lantus and I take Humalog 10 before meals if my bs is 180 or higher, does this sound right, I was diagnosed a Type 2 about 6 years ago, but the Glipizide and Metformin I was taking has been stopped, but my fasting bs has been 270 or higher any suggestions I know control my diet I get that, I also weigh 239 my Dr's say to loose weight, and I am going to try.
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
Avatar f tn Hello.........you are not alone...I have been having effects of metformin and glipizide since May 27, 2015. I am going into the clinic tomorrow. My pharmacist said "oh there is a bug going around". This is clearly not a bug this is either the meds are in too warm of a temperature and not being as effective or I've got another kidney infection. Been up with abdominal pain, bloating, gas ..just can't get comfortable and my numbers are not coming down as fast as they were.
Avatar f tn will continue taking metformin as usual and take the glipizide with at my morning break at work with my breakfast and take the pm metformin before dinner. she thinks this might help level things out. at this point i don't feel happy about taking so much meds, but until i can add more excerise into my daily choires i don't have much choice. she suggested trying to walk a little each day even if i don't do long distance. if my knee holds out, then i'm good to go.
