You need to tell people near you what the warning signs are of hypoglycemia and to give you the glucose gel if you are disoriented. If you are not able to respond and swallow though they shouldn't try and give you anything but should call 911. You don't say if you are taking any medications. If so, and especially if it is insulin, it could be too high a dose for you and needs to be evaluated right away.

I recently got put on Metformin 500mg twice a day for diabetes. The other day my sugar dropped down to 60. Now I hadn't been eating much that day but my Grandma takes the same medication and says she has never had that happen. Should I be concerned?

I routinely have blood sugars in the 150 range my A!C has been 7.7 and 8.2. I was suppose to have some foot surgery, but it was cancel because of the A1c. It is the 1st time I was told I couldn't have surgery because of the diabetes. My regular doctor signed off on me having surgery. The foot surgeon wouldn't do it. I just didn't think my blood sugar level was of any concern.

Eventually I went on 1000mg twice a day Janumet, and 2.5XL Glipizide, it worked for a while. I recently gained 8 lbs. but not sure it was the glipizide. On my second day of Victoza, so far ok. Interested to hear what kind of reaction you had to Victoza.

I am a type 2 diabetic and I concerned about fasting (religious) and taking glipizide. I have been on metformin for over 14 years and have had to recently add glucotrol to my regimen. I do not have any low blood sugar symptoms at all and I am scared of the time I have to restrain from eating. Is any one else ever dealt with this?

I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. However, insulin is not always the best option. Hypoglycemia is deadly and has a much morbitity associated. Your a1c has been well controlled until 4/13. In 11/12 it was 6.6 and prior to that normal @ <6.0. In correlation with that your weight went from 188.4 to 223.4. Insulin is anabolic and in the vast majority of patients cause weight to escalate. There is a large difference in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.

Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.

I am on 3 tablets a day of each of Glipizide (5mg) and Metformin (500mg). I take the Glipizide equally spaced out during the day but the Metformin one at lunchtime and two with my evening meal as instructed.

am now taking glipizide 5 mg along with colestipol 1gr twice daily and gabapentin 300mg 3 times daily and my blood sugar levels are staying high. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a year prior to HCV. I've used metformin, glipizide and actos (pioglitizone) for eight years now for DM2 management; including during both HCV treatments. I was eventually successful with interferon therapy, for what it's worth. I can't comment on the victoza; I have no personal experience with it. Reducing insulin resistance might be critical to succesful inteferon-based therapy as well.

Certainly hypoglycemia can trigger anxiety and panic, but rarely would it be the sole cause behind it. It is common for someone new to anxiety to do serious soul searching to try and find a logical "reason" behind the new emergence of anxiety and panic. well this could be the hypoglycemia, i too have it but dont often have symptoms because i eat constantly and eat candy often. but i am no doctor so you should definately ask your doctor about it. hypoglycemia seems to be thought of as not serious, but in fact its just as serious as diabetes, and also can progress like diabetes. you may have been told this 5 years ago but it may have progressed to a higher level. it could be worse. you need to have your doctor check your blood sugar levels.

Metformin has demonstrated efficacy for type II DM, and there are other oral meds that can be combined with it if metformin by itself isn’t enough. Pioglitazone and Glipizide are routinely prescribed in conjunction with metformin for DM II management.

That happened to me with metformin and my doctor switched me to glipizide. Now my numbers are going in the right direction. I think you need to complain to your doctor and find what works for you.
