Glipizide and heart failure

Common Questions and Answers about Glipizide and heart failure

glucotrol

Avatar m tn t have heart failure secondary to ischemic heart disease (ie blockages in the heart -- the normal stress test argues against this). The same is true for statins -- if your cholesterol is okay and you don't have evidence of coronary disease or other risk factors (diabetes, stroke, etc) then you don't need a statin. Vasodilators are sometimes used on top of ACEI/ARB and beta blocker but aren't always indicated.
647391 tn?1275016633 I routinely have blood sugars in the 150 range my A!C has been 7.7 and 8.2. I was suppose to have some foot surgery, but it was cancel because of the A1c. It is the 1st time I was told I couldn't have surgery because of the diabetes. My regular doctor signed off on me having surgery. The foot surgeon wouldn't do it. I just didn't think my blood sugar level was of any concern.
Avatar f tn Eventually I went on 1000mg twice a day Janumet, and 2.5XL Glipizide, it worked for a while. I recently gained 8 lbs. but not sure it was the glipizide. On my second day of Victoza, so far ok. Interested to hear what kind of reaction you had to Victoza.
Avatar f tn His medications-lasix (diuretic used for high blood pressure and other diseases), beta blocker, amiodarone (antiarrhythmic for heart disease), and spironductone (potassium sparing diuretic used to limit the amount of potassium lost with most diuretics) all seem to be what I would see my patients on. I guess my question is, how old is your father and what would he like to do at this time, continue aggressive management for improvement or try comfort measures to treat symtoms?
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
Avatar f tn I am a type 2 diabetic and I concerned about fasting (religious) and taking glipizide. I have been on metformin for over 14 years and have had to recently add glucotrol to my regimen. I do not have any low blood sugar symptoms at all and I am scared of the time I have to restrain from eating. Is any one else ever dealt with this?
Avatar n tn d (1998) with CHF and left ventricle hypertrophy (enlargement) your EF should have been less than 30%, not 60%, to be consistant with signs and symptoms of congested heart failure. This would be true as heart failure congestion is caused by the inability of the heart to pump with some equilbrium for the blood received from the lungs and this would cause blood to backup into the lungs and fluids would/will leak into the tissues causing congestion (pulmonary edema).
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. No snacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Avatar f tn I am on 3 tablets a day of each of Glipizide (5mg) and Metformin (500mg). I take the Glipizide equally spaced out during the day but the Metformin one at lunchtime and two with my evening meal as instructed.
Avatar n tn 50 mg is very often prescribed for Cardiomyopathy and Conjestive Heart Failure. Often the dose is bumped up over a period of time. I was inititally prescribed 3.175 mg twice a day, and it made me very tired, but as my body got used to it, I started taking larger and then again larger dosages until I reached 50 mg. It's a very effective medication for many people, but some people just can't tolerated it.
2053416 tn?1330411192 Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
4117735 tn?1349962369 The reason asked is that I have been monitoring my glucose and it has been between 200 - 300, and I would like to lower my readings.
Avatar m tn I'm sure you are very worried. Let me try to help.............a bit. First of all - I have experienced Pulmonary Edema on 2 serious occasions in '08. Both - life threatening..........the second - so life threatening that I experienced Respiratory Failure at my local hospital and had to be airlifted to the central hospital here in Maine. I was put in a coma and was not expected to live. I am a 58 y.o. male with an Ejection Fraction of 10-15% since '03.
Avatar m tn I got an Ekg and an Ecg both came out normal but I heard those test arent conclusive to a clogged heart?
Avatar n tn She should see a cardiologist for the fluid in her lungs and a diuretic medication can help that condition. I had lung edema from heart failure and it is not very pleasant experience...feels like I was breathing through a cloth and not getting enough air and coughing was just as bad. Yes, there can be a full recovery depending on the underlying cause. There is effective therapy for heart patients so don't give up.
Avatar m tn why this odd disassociation between heart failure and NSVT when there ought to be a corelation? Also, which is more unsafe- heart failure symptoms without NSVT or NSVT without heart failure symptoms?
Avatar m tn My Patty was diagnosed with Heart Failure 10 days ago, he had been doing pretty good, not liking taking his meds but now he is NOT wanting to eat and when we make it liquid and squirt it down his throat, it has started coming back up. He has no problem drinking and peeing. He is a month over 15 years old and my precious baby. Any ideas out there, he goes back to his dr in 2 days but I am about sick, his mom died of kidney failure and I hate to think this is happening to him.
Avatar f tn My parents are planning my funeral just in case it hurts me to even talk about it and there asking me how I want my funeral. I dont care I just dont want to die. All family and friends have been here with me, but I just want evreyone to go home and leave me alone I do not want to talk about death. All they do is sit around me and cry I dont want them to feel sorry for me because that just makes me even more upset.
Avatar f tn Palpitations are like headaches. By themselves they mean nothing. In rare instances a headache could be a brain tumor. A palpitation could mean anything. Sometimes it's something serious. If it is a rare occurance it probably is nothing. If it happens a lot, it is probably something, but the overwhelming odds are that something is far, far, far less sinister a medical condition than heart failure.
Avatar n tn I now have many of the long term complications. The one that is most difficult is heart failure, specifically diastolic heart failure. I would like to communicate with others who are dealing with this to see if they experience the same issues that I do. I was diagnosed with this heart condition 5 years ago, and have had a triple bypass 2 years ago. The problems result from the interaction of the heart condition with my diabetes. Your response would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am worried about heart failure. Do you think they would have been looking for heart failure when I went to the ER? And given the information I have given you does this sound like a possibility of heart failure?
Avatar f tn How do we define heart failure? Am I correct to say that it does not refer to an absolute state but more to the degree of inefficiency of the heart in performing its function? Is it true that when a person has heart failure, it doesn't mean that his/her heart is going to stop beating soon, and that death is imminent? A cousin of mine has had chronic atrial fibrillation since 3 months ago.
Avatar f tn What concerns me is this - for the last couple of years, I have been having spells of tachycardia and now have a resting heart rate of 110-130bpm. This constant tachy state leaves me tired and breathless.
Avatar m tn Today there are incredible treatments and devices and of course there is always the possibility of a heart transplant!! How do you feel, what symptoms and diagnose do you have.
328381 tn?1269364102 If there is right side heart failure, that can cause edema of the lower extremities and left side heart failure can contibute as well. You should consult with your doctor to rule out any serious condition.
