glipizide is in the Sulfonylurea class of drugs. Sulfonylurea drugs work by forcing the pancreas to make more insulin, insulin lowers BG. So if you dont eat and continue to take glipizide you run the risk of getting hypos. I say the risk as it depends what your BG is and how much glipizide lowers your BG.
If you are on glipizide you should have a BG test meter to check your BG. So test to see how your BG is doing.
Other interactions
During concomitant treatment with hydantoin derivatives(phenytoin), the serum hydantoin concentration may rise. Acitrom may potentiate the hypoglycaemic effect of sulfonylurea derivatives. Since neither the severity nor the early signs of interactions can be predicted, patients taking Acitrom, especially if they also suffer from hepatic dysfunction, should limit their alcohol intake.

- I am only on insulin no medication. I was put on Glibenclamide by my doctor which I took for a day but it had no effect on reducing my blood sugars. Thats when my diabetes health team put me on insulin. I questioned my diabetes consultant (the most senior level physician) on medication and he said that as I was neither insulin resistant nor over-weight there wass no medication that was appropriate.
