Avatar f tn Hi, Since november I have been experiencing right side upper abdominal pain, occasional pale stool and occasional right shoulder pain. I thought it was gallstones based on online research and dismissed it until last week. I did an ultrasound and the technician discovered that I have mild coarse echopattern on my liver. This is all the information I have thus far and am awaiting blood test results.
Avatar n tn Hep c and cirocis How can we determine how long he could live? Do some people recover from liver disease? Does anyone live for 10-20 years in this condition? Two years ago they said he might live 2 years. MELD score of 12 indicates 80% chance of living 2 months but it's been 4 months. What is a realistic time frame for him? Although I've pressed him, he doesn't have a will and I'm not sure if it's urgent at this time.
Avatar m tn What I will tell you might seem frightening at first but I am telling this so you realize how serious liver disease or cancer of the liver can be. Diagnosing illness on your own based on what you have read on the Internet may be fine if someone has minor non-life-threatening health issues but if you have “scarring of the liver” and your doctor is worried about liver cancer, this is something that you should take very seriously.
Avatar f tn hi sorry you and your mom are going throgh this. liver disease is a horrible disease. can't offer much help since this is a hepatitis C forum but can tell you that if your mom hasn't stopped drinking then nothing will help her. many of the symptoms from end stage can be treated to make the patient more comfortable. make sure your mom is seeing a hepatologist (liver specialist).
Avatar f tn My daughter has been diagnosed with liver disease. She had hep c but that is now under control. She has developed varies in the aesophagus and these are banded every three months. She now has frequent nose bleeds and would like to know the significance of this. She had a drug problem and she also continues to drink alcohol in large amounts. What is the likely outcome of this as she does not listen to what I have to say regarding not drinking.
Avatar n tn Other common health conditions, such as diabetes, heart disease, pancreatitis, hemolytic anemia and thyroid disease, can also cause liver transaminase elevations. Most liver diseases are characterized by greater SGPT elevations than SGOT elevations except cirrohsis and alcohol abuse. SGPT also rises in bile duct obstruction due to stone. Discuss the need to rule out these other conditions with your doctor. If you have jaundice, the cause can primarily be liver, though other causes can co-exist.
1714226 tn?1308625105 hi, I am a 1 1/2 year post liver transplant patient. My advice is to see a GI specialist who focuses on liver disease. There are a series of diagnostic procedures they would recommend if warranted. If liver disease is confirmed then they should request blood labs to determine a MELD score. In a nutshell, this can become very overwhelming but I am trying to reassure you that there many steps to take before determining the worst case.
1714226 tn?1308625105 Hi, my name is Patty and I am 29 years old. To say that liver disease runs in my family would be a huge understatement, for my grandmother, aunt, and my father have all died of cirrhosis of the liver. Neither of the 3 were alcoholics either. Since the age of 18, I have had routine checkups and blood work, keeping a close eye on my liver function and health. In January of 2010, I was diagnosed with gallbladder disease and had surgery to remove it.
Avatar f tn No, no one can tell you if you have liver disease or renal failure from what you have mentioned. I'm not sure the motives of that users scare tactics. However, you've been drinking ALOT and have pain in the liver area, that's not a good sign. I have been in your shoes and when I questioned the doctor about the normal tests...even though I had pain, he said I very well could have irritated/bruised my liver and it would not show up on tests.
Avatar f tn bleeding varices and severe ascites. Does he also have hepatic encephalopathy (confusion, disorientation, forgetfulness, unusual behavior)? Does he take any medications to prevent a reoccurence of the varices or the ascites? If he continues drinking, my uneducated guess would be that these symptoms will reoccur fairly soon. His liver is already damaged beyond repair, so not drinking was helping his liver.
Avatar n tn Those numbers are way out of range and could indicate advanced liver disease.
Avatar m tn They should see a specialist (a gastroenterologist (GI specialist) or hepatologist (a liver specialist)) to get treatment and learn how to manage his liver disease to prevent further damage to his liver. Without treatment his liver disease will only get worse or time. NAFLD is now the second most common cause for people needing liver transplantation and is expected to become the number one cause for liver transplantation in the US in the coming years.
Avatar f tn t did my kidney function test yet but I already did liver function test and my ALT is 9 U/L does this low ALT indicate that I have kidney issues?

Avatar n tn Hello Doctor, I am hoping you can help my husband. About 6 months ago my husband had a regular check up and was told he had abnomal liver values. After a sonogram, they confirmed that he has fatty liver disease. He was told there's nothing he can do about it except eat healthy and increase good fat. That would be fine except he's the most discipline healthiest person I know.
Avatar f tn They gave me some fluid and did an abd CT and Liver enzymes, and standard abd pain workup, which all came back negative. Dr said that my liver did not feel enlarged and that if i had liver disease there would be other signs. Im normally a 2 -3 wine drinker a night for the last 15 years or so. After i stopped drinking, i started to feel fatigue, and what i think is gastritis. I had a few loose stools which they think is IBS, and not liver related.

I went to my regular doctor, who said the left lower pain could be acid reflux, or gastritis and he put me on protonix.
