1399363 tn?1462342610 Beta blockers cause hyperkalemia b/c they inhibit the secretion of insulin. With no insulin secretion, a masked hypoglycemia and hyperkalemia occur. Therefore the antidotes for beta blocker toxicity consist of glucagon and calcium gluconate. For the hypoglycemia and hyperkalemia respectively." "Beta receptors are specifically linked to calcium-gated potassium channels, and their activation allows potassium to enter the cell directly. A blocker, therefore, will inhibit this uptake.
Avatar f tn Try this for a week, and you will see a difference of how you feel, as you will gain control over insulin secretion, keeping your blood sugar rock steady and a feeling of being well fed.
Avatar f tn Generally this is due to increased secretion of insulin from the pancreas. This can be overcome by increasing fiber in diet. Along with reduced insulin secretion this delays gastric emptying. Drugs like octreotide, cholestyramine or proton pump inhibitors such as lansprazole help slow down digestion. At times surgery is required where Roux-en Y gastrojejunostomy is done. Please discuss this with the surgeon who performed the bypass and get this treated. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn insulin secretion will counteract fat burning, which in turn will counter act fasting.
Avatar f tn Diabetes is a disease which is characterized by problems involving the hormone insulin. In healthy people, the pancreas releases insulin; insulin then works to help the body use and store the fat and sugar that is derived from the food that people eat. With diabetes, insulin can be compromised in a couple of different ways. In some cases, the pancreas doesn’t produce any insulin at all. Other times, the body does not react in the right way to insulin – this is known as “insulin resistance.

233616 tn?1312787196 ***@**** Liver cirrhosis is characterized by a severe impairment of the growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor-1 (GH-IGF-1) axis, that is, acquired GH resistance. The condition of the GH-IGF-1 axis in the phase of chronic liver disease (CLD) preceding cirrhosis, however, remains uncertain. The origin of GH resistance during CLD is multifactorial, and to date, the liver functional mass is considered to play a major role.
Avatar f tn The way I won the battle was to eat in a way that does not make my blood sugar spike, and which would also keep my insulin secretion controlled as well. The eating plan us calked LCHF, which is low fat, moderate protein and high fat. And there are no gimmicks, pills, powders, bars, etc...just real food. Best part is that no calorie counting, eat until full. Also, it canceled my cravings and I no longer snack anymore.

Avatar m tn This test measures residual beta cell functions by determining the amount of insulin secretion [C-Peptide]. LADA/MODY/Type 1.5 people have their beta cells destroyed by their immune system. If you are insulin resistant or t2 diabetic, in most cases but not always, your C-Peptide will be high. 3. There are other tests that will verify type 1 such as ICA [Islet Cell Antibodies], GAD [Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase] Antibodies, and IAA [or Insulin Antibodies].
Avatar f tn I had a 25 cm ovarian cyst and I think it might of been due to insulin resistance. I say this as insulin resistance is thought to play a prominent role in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Not that I have PCOS though but insulin resistance seems the most likely culprit. My doctor thought I had fibromyalgia but the wide spread pain was due to magnesium deficiency and this deficiency was due to insulin resistance.

Avatar m tn Poor memory, brain fog and lack of concentration are all signs of insulin resistance. You may not have been actually diagnosed as insulin resistant yet, but elevated sugar levels do affect memory. Increase magnesium in the diet. Do not take magnesium supplements if you have kidney or heart problems. "Magnesium plays a pivotal role in the secretion and function of insulin; without it, diabetes mellitus is inevitable." - Nutritional Magnesium Association.
1925135 tn?1323307656 Amaryl induces secretion of insulin from pancreas, so its most effective.
789911 tn?1368636783 Higher sugar consumption means higher insulin secretion and insulin cancels out, interferes with the interferon, thus making treatment less likely to succeed. Excess sugar or food is one of the culprits that leads to type 2 and then to type 1 diebetes. It causes insulin resistance, IR, and people with IR or diebetes have a lower success rate on current SOC tx, so controling sugars is an important part of the whole treatment landscape. http://www.mlmwatch.org/04C/NSA/juiceplus.
Avatar f tn headaches may not really be due to a sugar problem that needs medicine to treat like diabetes, he may definitely have a little insulin resistance being on steroids, but actually manage his sugars overall just fine due to his compensation in insulin secretion, if indeed the endo did the labs including hba1c, insulin and c-peptide, a fasting blood sugar and urinalysis, this is very very reassuring that you do not need to stress as much about the sugar, rather I would highly recommend that you talk
183933 tn?1290216962 Insomuch as oral hypoglycemic agents (OHAs) can normalize the hyperglycemia that harms the fetus, they must be beneficial. However, sulfonylureas stimulate insulin secretion from the fetal beta cells, thereby potentially INCREASING THE HARMFUL hyperinsulinemic effects in the fetus caused by hyperglycemia. " The authors suggest that Glyburide.... "is a clinically effective alternative to insulin. However, the failure rate for glyburide treatment was 20%.
1084115 tn?1385228589 In our study, we gave intravenous glucose, a specific stimulus to insulin secretion, and showed that insulin secretion was not impaired in Hepatitis C patients compared to our control group." "This finding tells us that people with Hepatitis C who develop diabetes probably have susceptible insulin-producing cells, and would probably get it anyway – but much later in life. The extra insulin resistance caused by Hepatitis C apparently brings on diabetes at 35 or 40, instead of 65 or 70.
Avatar m tn ) I was asked to see a diabetic nurse (as a normal routine) and she has aproblem with the dose of drugs that I take and advises me to shift to insulin. The doctors did not have any problem with my medication though. I am not happy with this advice from her. Could any medical professional help me with advice as to which other medication I can shift to. I will be most grateful.
5587438 tn?1370416937 It is now clear that PCOS is often associated with profound insulin resistance as well as with defects in insulin secretion. These abnormalities, together with obesity, explain the substantially increased prevalence of glucose intolerance in PCOS.
Avatar m tn Chronic Hepatitis C is Associated with Peripheral rather than Hepatic Insulin Resistance. Milner KL, van der Poorten D, Trenell M, Jenkins AB, Xu A, Smythe G, Dore GJ, Zekry A, Weltman M, Fragomeli V, George J, Chisholm DJ. Garvan Institute for Medical Research, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. BACKGROUND & AIMS:: Chronic Hepatitis C (CHC) is associated with insulin resistance (IR), liver steatosis (genotype 3) and increased diabetes risk.
