Avatar m tn Another thought- has he been eating solid foods or is he only taking in liquids? If he has only been taking in non-solid food, this could wind up causing bulk not to form in stools.

Avatar f tn According to an article in the international journal Research on Aging in 2009, the elderly population in China will have tripled by 2050. Norway and China are in many ways extreme opposites when it comes to family policy. Under China's policy responsibility for the family rests entirely with families themselves. There are almost no institutions for the elderly, and few elderly people receive pensions.
Avatar n tn I am being met with resistance and am concerned that the attending physician is completely in the dark about several studies regarding the negative effects of these particular drugs in elderly patients with dementia, or any helpful alternatives. Are there any alternatives to using antipsychotic medications in this case? I have a hard time believing he is being kept in this state for other than that it makes him less work for the staff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn No, I don't think so it is the symptom of end of life. I lived with my father in law who was 94 years old when he came in. He's healthy, only with asthma. He offered help me to sweep the floor/yard. Hanging and picking up the clothes. He also concentrated on the weather make sure he picked up the clothes before it rained. He'll miss if he slept all the day long! LOL. He liked sleep (usually longer hour than us).
Avatar n tn My Mom is 92 years old. Has been living on her own in Elderly housing for 20 years. Her dementia consisted of repeating and repeating, forgetting who visited, etc. but went throughout her normal activities w/some services very well and very happiy. Always knew us but was starting to forget other people but after prompting she would be ok. 3 weeks ago she developed a very severe resistant UTI and then got c-dift (not sure how to spell that). Anyway ended up dilusional, confused, etc.
Avatar n tn I have heard that Suboxone could be used for pain in the elderly population to take the place of the many pain medications they may be on. such as morphine and Oxycodone Does anyone do this and how would I approach my Mother's Doctor about this. .
Avatar f tn The elderly generally take smaller doses because the liver metabolizes drugs more in the elderly. And any antidepressant can cause increased anxiety particularly in the beginning, but even later, as they can be stimulating.
611606 tn?1315517767 Hi, I am owned by a wonderful 15 year old Kitty. Smokie and I have been together since he was 5 weeks old. A year ago he started showing his age and seemed uncomfortable. I took him to the Vet, and was told that h was very geriatric, so of course I brought him back home, so relived I didn't have to put him to sleep. Now he is getting worse, his cries sound like he is in pain, he longer walks well. I don't want him to suffer, he has been such a huge part of my life.
691463 tn?1227419054 we have an elderly cat of 17, he is suddenely much more lethargic than usual, as if in a daze and drooling heavily, we wonder if he may have had a stroke, he experienced something like a seizure couple of weeks ago.
Avatar n tn Hullo Ireneo I am almost 66 yrs old working full time at a very busy hospital in New Zealand, and I too get shortness of breath, ....I had it checked out when a heart murmer was detected, and I have an Aoertic Stenosis of moderate severity,,,,,,I continue to live a very busy life and feel great.....Please dont' ignore any health systems such as shortness of breath.....take care .....
Avatar m tn No, but if a pet has all the symptoms, such as enlargement of all the lymph nodes in an elderly patient there is a chance that the patient may have lymphoma. A veterinarian would than do a fine needle aspirate (needle biopsy), or excisional biopsy, and bloodwork to be definitive.
Avatar n tn There are boxed warnings on the labels (also you could go to the medication website as well) stating to use caution about the use of antipsychotics in people who are elderly especially people with dementia. It would be worthwhile to see a neurologist who specializes in gerontology. There are medications specifically designed to treat dementia that might be able to be used without these concerns of which they would have more knowledge of.
7052683 tn?1392938795 This is soooo sad. Believe me I have volunteered in Rescue a long time and, elderly cats especially, will wither and die if they are taken to a shelter. They just do not know what is happening the one they loved so much has left them in this place to die? So If you LOVE your furballs, as I know we all do, PLEAS think NOW about making arrangements for them. Do not just leave them. Some have been found in homes after their owner has died and are near death themselves with no food . OH!
Avatar f tn I found her some hours after the stroke--not sure how many, and she was treated in a stroke unit but is now in an ordinary nursing home with rehab services. Bleeding had stopped on its own by the morning after the stroke, so no attempt to drain off excess blook from the brain was made.
Avatar n tn if you go I mean soak more than one pad per hour for a few (3) hours in a row please dont wait ,,rush to the nearset emergency room especially in the elderly this amt of bleeding is very dangerous.Your blood preesure drops corresponding with blood loss. It could be an extremely life or death situation.
Avatar n tn Although results are comparable among older and younger patients, old age is generally considered a significant risk factor for early mortality and morbidity, partly because of the high incidence of coexisting disorders in elderly patients. However, in many elderly patients, survival and quality of life can be improved with valve replacement or repair. The overall perioperative mortality rate for aortic valve replacement in elderly patients is 10.
Avatar m tn Benzodiazepines also require special precaution if used by individuals that may be pregnant, alcohol- or drug-dependent, or may have comorbid psychiatric disorders. Clonazepam is generally not recommended for use in elderly people for insomnia due to its high potency relative to other benzodiazepines.
