Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec multiple myeloma

Avatar n tn Every other test was in the normal ranges, this included c-reactive protein, ana, ESR...... My calcium was 9.6. The doctor has now tested me for multiple myeloma by doing a spep. I am scared, I am only 31years old. Has anyone been diagnosed with myeloma, and what where your total blood protein levels?
Avatar f tn I am really scared I have Multiple Myeloma. Should I ask for more tests? If so which one would totally rule out Multiple Myeloma, I know a bone biopsy but I don't think my Dr. will order that now is there anyother test to rule it out?
Avatar f tn On a blood test my IgA level was 25 (normal being from 0-25). Does anyone know if this is high enough to be multiple myeloma (I know that IgA can be for other things too, but I am concerned about multiple myeloma as I have been having other symptoms as well). Please clarify.. Thank you!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, (Stage 3), a year and a half ago. I recently had a PAP, (had not had one since before the Ca ), I was diagnosed with high risk HPV. I know I got the HPV from the guy I am seeing who is an ex-pro athlete and had many "groupies". 1. Do you think the two are related? (Multiple Myeloma and HPV). 2. How do I have safe sex with him and protect myself from any further Ca? 3.. Is there anything he can do?
Avatar n tn we did extensive tests for multiple myeloma it tuned out to be reactivation of multiple myeloma by immunofixation tests any comment ??
Avatar n tn I am almost 5 years out from my diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma. Have been in a watchful waiting stage for 6 months as my m-protein (cancer marker) has showed up and continues to slowly rise. I'm now in clear relapse pattern. Treatment will likely be induction chemo with multiple drugs, then a second stem cell transplant but we hope to delay starting treatment as long as possible since for the most part I feel fine, no myeloma issues.
Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar f tn Hi, I know how difficult this is to deal with. I know exactly how stressful this is!! But, your vet said that he might have multiple myeloma. MIGHT, so this is not definite, your kitty might also have something that is fixable, too. The bone marrow biopsy will give you the truth and will be able to tell you what the deal is and if it's fixable. Two of my cats have had this biopsy done for anemic issues and low WBCs. Guess what, both of them had fixable conditions!!
Avatar n tn I started out with smoldering Myeloma. I did lots of research and found Huntsman Cancer Institute, Salt Lake City, UT has a Myloma Clinic. Dr. Tricot (tree-co) is from Belgum and is wonderful. He specializes in Myeloma. He started me on Pamidronate infusions to prevent bone loss. My IgG is in the 3300 mg range and the bone marrow was at 13% Myeloma cells and the Kappa/Lambda freelight chains were high (can't remember at this time how high). The total proteins were at 9.
Avatar m tn Hi, unfortunately with smudge cells and your other signs, the first thing to look into is CLL and other B-cell blood cancers. The high calcium suggests Multiple Myeloma, but then CLL can also cause high calcium. It's important to remember that CLL usually has a very good survival rate. You don't mention easy bruising, so maybe the marrow is still okay. If your WBC and your number of smudge cells hasn't been rising, that should probably be a good sign. Good luck to you.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
Avatar n tn The condition seems to be rare and sometimes caused by multiple myeloma or kidney disease. However. a bone marrow biospy, MRI and many other blood tests have shown no signs of cancer or kidney disease. What, if anything, can anyone tell me what the next step should be to determine the cause of this condition?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar n tn What is the latest treatment for multiple myeloma? I had a stem cell transplant 13 years ago and am among the longest survivers. MM is not curable, only treatable. I was in a clinical trial, but now am too old for another stem cell transplant. The cancer is not active now, but I have that fear everytime I go in for my 6 month checkup.
Avatar n tn Correspondingly, an increase in the number of cations, either organic (eg, paraproteins as in multiple myeloma) or inorganic (bromide, lithium, Iodine or polymyxin B) can lead to low anion gap values. A decreased anion gap is also seen in multiple myeloma where the increased negatively-charged immunoglobulins interact with and bind cations in the blood.” Refer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anion_gap Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Ok, that is good you have seen the general oncologist and he has ruled out some things for you already. I would recommend having an Orthopedic Oncologist view your films as well.
Avatar m tn i read that is the ONLY one that will diagnose or begin to diagnose multiple myeloma. what a ****** up world. if any doctors read this, realize you are morons and give people FULL TESTS when they complain of horrific ailments. ugh. i have to die so disgusted.
Avatar n tn It resembles multiple myeloma and similar diseases, but the levels of antibody are lower, the number of plasma cells (white blood cells that secrete antibodies) in the bone marrow is lower, it has no symptoms or problems, and no treatment is indicated. However, multiple myeloma develops at the rate of about 1-2% a year, so doctors recommend monitoring it yearly. In rare cases, it may also be related with a slowly progressive symmetric distal sensorimotor neuropathy.
Avatar f tn s up there already , recently develop multiple myeloma . He already had the cell that easily could of turn to this awful cancer at anytime. Well this Saturday he sustained a fall and fractured his lower back an L2 is what they found . Amongst more detail observation they saw that there was apparent bone disintegration. They did blood work to determine and yes sad and horrible he has it! I've been to the hospital off an on with him since he got sick .
Avatar n tn After two weeks on 400mlg gleevec my WBC droped from 36.5 to 7.1. My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
