Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count.
This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
After two weeks on 400mlg gleevec my WBC droped from 36.5 to 7.1. My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
Am on Gleevec 400mg, now having problems with blisters on the palm. What can I do about it?
I was diagnosed last year and was immediatley put on gleevec 400mg/day.At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen,hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form,just very tired and a lot of bone pain.
I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
I've recently been diagnosed with Chiari I malformation. I'm looking at the Mayfield Clinic for an NS. I saw Dr. Tew on the doctors list at this site. I'm not sure that he's still available though. Can anyone recommend anyone else from there? Thanks for your help.
You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great.

But they are recommending I see Dr. James Fulop here in Ohio. I had planned to go to the Mayfield Chiari Care Center in Cincinnati Ohio. Do I see Dr. James Fulop first, only go to Mayfield Chiari Care Center, or both. Dr. James Fulop is not a Chiari specialist. As a matter of fact, my husband sees him for obstructive sleep apnea.

Fortunately, i will b seeing a neuro from da mayfield clinic. it gets old when it feels like some1 took a shotgun 2 da back of my head and parts of me r going numb. i wish i would stop being told that i'm fine. i guess u know u will b getting some bs answer when the doc can't even pronounce Chiari. on top of it all, when ur family doesn't get it and provides no help.... it's heart breaking. i haven't worked since before my surgery (09) and i have 2 little one's.
The is a Chiari clinic in Ohio called the Mayfield Clinic with Dr Tew, u would not have to go far...Dr Di left over a yr ago and no word where or when he may pick up practice again. Word was he had his own health issues.

Got a call from Mayfield today. Dr. Tew wants to see me on Wednesday. Pretty fast process considering they just got all my stuff this week. If I get the chance, I may tell them that the very nice and helpful Jeremy needs to be assigned to "re-train" the very rude, condescending and impatient Sharon. Yep, I know, I need to get rid of my negativity. :-) I'll let everyone know how it goes.
i get my heart checked every 2 weeks now and i am fine with the qt thing. i take the chemo pill called gleevec and have to force myself to eat so i dont get sick when i take it. how long will these withdrawel problems go on? i have xanax to take (1mg) but dont work to good. i should would appreciate any advice from any one on how to deal with these issues, family dr says its anxiety but i think its the withdrawels from the high dose of elavil.
t think there was one in Kentucky but one over the boarder in Ohio (Cincinnati) - Mayfield Chiari Center. Dr. Tew is well known in the Chiari field. Seeing him tomorrow. Will be posting my experience afterward. If you can't find anyone in Kentucky, I suggest contacting Mayfield.
I live in Toledo OH and have been searching high and low for a Chiari specialist when I came across the Chiari Malformation Mayfield Clinic in Cincinnati OH. I've never heard of this place before but my niece who was like 11 at the time had her decompression surgery done at Cincinnati Children's hospital and it went really well.
Finally got a call from Mayfield Clinic. My local NL gave them the wrong number :( After I received a note from them I called and things have been moving. Already they have been so nice to me. What a breath of fresh air. Today I completed a 45 minute health history with them over the Once they receive all my scans I will hear something in 4-5 business days. Hopefully Dr Tew will want to see me. I am more hopeful than I have been in a long time.
So I have my apt at Mayfield Chiari tomorrow. I got my radiology reports and stuff in the mail yesterday (though Mayfield already has a copy). The person who read/interpreted them wrote that the finding of 6mm Chiari was incidental and a questionable clinical finding....meaning from previous doctors that Chiari is nothing and not causing my problems. I'm interested and anxious to hear what Dr. Tew says but also scared to death.
