Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec in the news

gleevec

Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn I have been on Gleevec since Oct. of 2000. I was in one of the original clinical trials for it, and I am still on it to this day. I am doing very well with it, and you can ask me any questions you might have.
Avatar f tn If the Gleevec is indeed causing the hyponatremia, then it's likely this way: "Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone Secretion (SIADH)" https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/246650-overview ...which is from too much water being retained. This is because of what happens inside the kidneys. Has she gained a lot of water weight? I'd first think of a Nephrologist (kidney doctor), then maybe an Endocrinologist. But Oncologists should be familiar with all of this anyway.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar n tn Myelosuppression with neutropenia (decrease in neutrophils) and thrombocytopenia (decrease in platelet count) can be a side effect of treatment. Usually, discontinuation of drug intake is advised until the blood counts increase. You should have your white blood cell count repeated after 1-2 weeks and see if it already improves. You should report to your doctor if you experience any symptoms like fever.

Avatar f tn At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen, hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form, just very tired and a lot of bone pain.
Avatar m tn With diastolic dysfunction, depending on the severity, the body is sensitive to volume overload and can sometimes result in fluid backup into the lungs, resulting in (usually acute onset) shortness of breath. This can be exacerbated by high blood pressure. From what you are describing that your cardiologist said, your diastolic function is probably only mildly abnormal, and is unlikely to be the explanation for your occasional cough.

535822 tn?1443976780 The New York Post today has said that there is a push for the 9/11 Trial to go to Govenor's Island , A lower Manhatton Community board called on fed officails yesterday to move the trail of the terrorists to Govenor's Island and passed a resolution demanding the shift, in a hearing with Downtown Residents who loathe the idea of the threats that would ensue and the lockdown it would involve, this makes sense to me , what say you ....
Avatar f tn EXCEPT that the 1st doc was justifiably afraid that the long QT could end in sudden cardiac death. Elavil is known to sometimes cause long QT, and 150mg is a pretty high dose of Elavil. You might think of long QT as when the heart is not firing crisply... let's say it's sluggish. That might ultimately make the ventricles of the heart get really wacky and vibrate and not pump blood.
Avatar m tn I should mention that I have CML but it has been in remission for the last two years and I am no longer taking Gleevec. I am scheduled to be looked at by a group that kills the nerve endings in the heart that causes AF but there is an 18 month waiting period. My question is how many times can I be cardioverted and what is the downside of having it so often?
1004138 tn?1316251113 also keep in mind what Susan said: you want to be very careful never to take anything that could reduce the effectiveness of the regular therapy - for instance you don't take antioxidant containing substances when on certain types of standard chemo.
Avatar f tn txt Check out this link! Every now and then I just google Chiari and see if it is in the news anywhere! Sounds like someone or everyone here should do a bit more research!
Avatar f tn There is no genetic basis for the CML therefore she was not put on Gleevec. She is on Hydrea to keep the wbc count down to a more normal level. I think the only thing that led to the CML diagnosis was the extremely high wbc with no sign of infection or other cancer. Mayo did the same blood tests as the hometown doctor, as well as the lab in Iowa City. I would like them to run other tests but havent a clue what to ask for.
Avatar n tn Now 10 days later started having a slight fever at night and some sweating.. very light around the colar, and pain under arm..Not the soaking the bed. I am really scared, Of course I ran straight to the computer.. fearing the worst..
Avatar f tn But the simplicity also allows people to become complacent or to ask for that little treatment pill they show in the news report without question, which we know all doctors are so well educated on treatment (insert sarcasm here). By the way, that treatment pill they show is Adefovir. Oh yeah, I also wrote Fiona Ma to show my support for her advocacy work. Will let you guys know if I get a reply.
492869 tn?1285018933 the guy in the than plaid shirt is on the side of the CDC and IDSA (Infectious Disease Society of America), who believe that 'Lyme is hard to get and easy to cure'. The other speakers tend to be the dissenters like me and many others here. For those who have had Lyme for a while and have learned the basics already, the videos (which last about a half hour in total) might not tell you anything new...
