Hi Jose, I did a little research on the Gleevec website and here's what it said: "Patients should avoid grapefruit juice and other foods that may affect how GLEEVEC works." I'm not sure what it means by "other foods". I've also heard that foods high in antioxidants (such as pomegranites, berries and some beans) can actually work against some cancer drugs, but I'm not sure about Gleevec. It's probably best to consult your doctor.

how to differentiate anemia because of the disease (in this case CML that hasn't got CHR in 3 month) and adverse effect of therapy (gleevec) ?

I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.

I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.

i take the chemo pill called gleevec and have to force myself to eat so i dont get sick when i take it. how long will these withdrawel problems go on? i have xanax to take (1mg) but dont work to good. i should would appreciate any advice from any one on how to deal with these issues, family dr says its anxiety but i think its the withdrawels from the high dose of elavil.

I will have to go back and see if I can find that one. It was really interesting. Seems to be all upside down in the way it works as to the way you would think it did. I wish I could have seen that episode. Gleevec (discovered by Dr. Druker - a real cutie pie with lots of energy, works here in town) seems so promising. But like all medications, they take years to test it and test it before it's really out there. He's been working on this for years but I don't know how many. I do hope it works just as well on other forms of cancer.

I understand it has a ceiling cap and half life. How does taking 3 doses a day effect you? I mean you take 4mg. It is stored with a half life, when I take my next dose in 8 hours how much do I now have? I know that it caps what does that really mean, just you aren't getting anymore but it is still in you.
