Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec gbm

gleevec

Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar f tn I am in desperate need of a inoperable GBM survivor. My husband is 43 and started treatment today. I just need to know there is at least one out there. He is a survivor and will prove this. I don't want to hear let him eat what he wants and make him comfortable I want to know how and what to do to fight this as much as possible! Please if anyone knows of a survivor that has not had a operation please, PLEASE let me know.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar n tn After two weeks on 400mlg gleevec my WBC droped from 36.5 to 7.1. My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
Avatar n tn Am on Gleevec 400mg, now having problems with blisters on the palm. What can I do about it?

Avatar f tn - Oct 2011 He found a 7cm tumor in brain, don't know what is this. Then surgery taken and report show diagnosis as "Diffuse astrocytoma WHO grade II", - The doctor only provide oral medication. Neither chemotherapy nor radiotherapy has been taken. And, we were told by the doctor that no chemo or radiation need to take. Plus, Dr said the tumor isn't cancer. - May 2012 He didn't feel well and seek the assistance from hospital.
Avatar m tn I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Avatar f tn my 21 year old daughter has been recently diagnosed GBM grade IV - she did 2 craniotomies- we see the oncologist Monday - we will then find out when the radiation and chemo will begin... everything I read is saying 1 - 2 years life expectancy - I just am unable to accept that.. realistically I need to know how this will affect her? will it be her motor skills? eye sight??
Avatar f tn I'm so sorry for your condition. What kind of Brain tumor do you have? Is it GMB or something else? If it is GBM there is a clinical trial that they don't have to remove the tumor for by Tocagen. They have the trials at UCLA, UCSF, and UCSD and maybe other places and it sounds promising. If you don't have GBM I thought I would try. I have vertigo but not due to a shunt. It is due to my migraines and they use Topamax to control it.
Avatar n tn You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great. I hope this helps you. I would be glad to help you with any other questions.
Avatar f tn Sorry for paranoid question but would a MRI show all aspects, would it show small GBM tumours in or around the optic nerve etc? Optic neuritis/ papilloedema etc? Or does an MRI show literally every type of tumour etc within the head?

Avatar m tn I've had two brain two tumors and a sinus infection. I'm guessing a sinus infection. Get a neti pot. Or some sudefed. Avoid the antibiotics.
Avatar f tn A month ago my husband (41) had a tumor resection of a GBM in the left temporal/frontal lobe. He is still recovering from surgery and has begun cancer treatment (temodar& radiation) a week ago. He has a previous accident injury where he has struggled with neck pain for ten years. He has been on suboxone for probably 7 years now. He is currently taking his suboxone but is not getting any relief for his head pain.
Avatar m tn The hyperglycemia produces increased matrix production and thickening of the of the glomerular basement membrane (GBM). This causes the nephropathy. This in turn causes systemic hypertension. To prevent further damage, he will have to take medications regularly and check his blood sugars to ensure it is in the normal range of 80-120mg/dl. Strict adherence to a diabetic diet and regular exercise will further help to reduce blood sugars. He will need regular follow up with his nephrologist.
Avatar n tn My father is a patient of Grade 4 Brain Tumor (GBM) in his left parietal lobe He is surviving from past 5 years 8 months. 1) He underwent for a surgery on August 2002. Doctor told he was not able to remove the total tumor. 2) After 1 month in September last week of 2002 he started Radiations using Linear Accelerator. He had 33 Radiations along with 100 mg Temodal (Temozolomide). He used to take the capsule 1 hour before the radiation.
Avatar m tn I should mention that I have CML but it has been in remission for the last two years and I am no longer taking Gleevec. I am scheduled to be looked at by a group that kills the nerve endings in the heart that causes AF but there is an 18 month waiting period. My question is how many times can I be cardioverted and what is the downside of having it so often?
