Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec and thyroid

gleevec

Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML in May with WBC at 222 and an enlarged spleen. Currently on Gleevec 400mg and the last FBC shows WBC at 2.1 . Still maintaining current dose of 400mg.Apart from some annoying blisters on my palm, other side effects rather acceptable.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar n tn t want to see me, that fever was not from gleevec, and that I needed to monitor myself by myself by simply taken ibuprofen. This is what I did all last week and only this Monday he did a blood work. For now, what can I do to help my body to build my immune system back? Any vitamins? I'll appriciate any advice.

Avatar m tn I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.

Avatar n tn You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great. I hope this helps you. I would be glad to help you with any other questions.

Avatar m tn I should mention that I have CML but it has been in remission for the last two years and I am no longer taking Gleevec. I am scheduled to be looked at by a group that kills the nerve endings in the heart that causes AF but there is an 18 month waiting period. My question is how many times can I be cardioverted and what is the downside of having it so often?

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed w/CMML in 2009 and did 6mos of Vidaza. Monocyte levels keep rising and are now at 28%. 54 yr old male. Avatar f tn She then went to Mayo and the doctor there told her she did not have Leukemia based on her blood work there, but she had been overdosed on Hydrea during the summer to the point her wbc was 3 and was only recovered to 11 by the time of her appt in Sept. Now her wbc is 58 and her hometown doctor is putting her back on Hydrea. Her family is concerned she is going to take a serious chemo drug when there is still a question of what she has. Could it be an infection that isn't showing up?
Avatar f tn Stella has provided the tests you need - I'd also recommend cortisol tests to see if your adrenal gland is functioning okay - maybe you'd do better on a T3/T4 med like Armour? I'd also have your Vitamin D levels checked. You'd be surprised how D deficiency can affect your body. Google Vitamin D deficiency and see what you find. I take 4,000 IU's a day and mine still stays low at 30 in a range of 20-80. NOt sure why I cannot get it up!

Avatar f tn I have had my thyroid tested before I was diagnosed with lupus. My thyroid function is fine.
Avatar m tn T4 is converted to “T3” in the thyroid, liver, brain and other tissues. T3 is the active form, 200 times stronger than T4. The importance of TSH TSH, made by the pituitary gland in the brain, stands for thyroid stimulating hormone. If your thyroid is sluggish, your pituitary produces more TSH, a kind of kick in the pants for the thyroid. The TSH blood test is the most useful test for thyroid function. What causes a sluggish thyroid? A common cause is autoimmune.
Avatar f tn Keep in mind the higher the number the more under active your thyroid is(hypo) What often happens(not always ) early in tx. ..the interferon ramps up the thyroid and puts in into overdrive and then can somewhat damage it and as treatment goes on or after tx. the thyroid gets underactive( hypo)..in other words not working so good and the numbers will rise. The bad news if this happens ..it is usually the way it stays ..
Avatar m tn Anyone here know anything about zetia and its affect on the thyroid and or levo absorption? I have read it may affect absorption and the rx monograph says talk tp your doctor if you have thyroid disorders. He knows I am on synthroid, but I am curious how this drug affects it.
1139187 tn?1355706647 Hypothyroid patients must have their doctor monitor their TSH, T4, T3, and thyroid antibodies often in order to optimize thyroid function. If any of these values are off, then the thyroid function will be compromised and thus the MTHFR enzyme will be as well. It is critical that doctors monitor all these markers and not just TSH. TSH measurement by itself is worthless. It is similar to someone asking you where the car keys are and you reply back, “Over there.” ‘Where?’ you ask again.
Avatar m tn This will result in a need for a greater doses of thyroid hormone, and a greater possibility of side effects including heart palpitations and anxiety. Use this herb for thyroid if you have autoimmune thyroid disease, or if you are noticeably fatigued, and sensitive to stress. How to take: Withania can be taken as a fluid extract or a tablet. Because the herb is so gentle, a relatively large dose must be used to see an effect on thyroid function. Consult your Naturopath.
