gleevec and dr. oz

so i will know about this tonight when someone calls me about his appointment today, i believe he is starting a drug called Gleevec today also, i guess dr has some samples in his office but told him this drug cost 2,000 a month...he has no insurance.. well he lives in northern ca, and im out here in fl...

Not a question but I wanted to let this group know about the Dr. Oz Show about when is too old to have a baby. It airs next Fri. 1/27/12 and our very own 1biologist is a guest. It was a very interesting show and there were alot of things brought up about over 40 women TTC especially. Of course all of us TTC over 40 have researched it to death, it is still a good show. It discusses the pros and cons as well as the risks.

Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.

I was diagnosed with CML in May with WBC at 222 and an enlarged spleen. Currently on Gleevec 400mg and the last FBC shows WBC at 2.1 . Still maintaining current dose of 400mg.Apart from some annoying blisters on my palm, other side effects rather acceptable.

I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.

t want to see me, that fever was not from gleevec, and that I needed to monitor myself by myself by simply taken ibuprofen. This is what I did all last week and only this Monday he did a blood work. For now, what can I do to help my body to build my immune system back? Any vitamins? I'll appriciate any advice.

I have a good article from Dr. Oz on some things but am not typing it out at the moment. Just watched his show and love it! I hope he does a fertility/pregnancy episode soon!!! Anyone else a fan of his?

I was diagnosed last year and was immediatley put on gleevec 400mg/day.At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen,hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form,just very tired and a lot of bone pain.

I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.

got new dr after this and he has put me back on the elavil but at 50 mg to try to increase my appetite and gain weight back plus the headaches were coming back but the withdrawels problems are still with me i guess cause its a low dose of elavil. i get my heart checked every 2 weeks now and i am fine with the qt thing. i take the chemo pill called gleevec and have to force myself to eat so i dont get sick when i take it. how long will these withdrawel problems go on?

Somewhat like the ice bucket challenge, we (lymies) have been challenging well known people to take a bite out of Lyme. Today Dr Oz did the challenge and had his whole audience participate. It was awesome seeing them do that. He also discussed Avril Lavigne's recent Lyme diagnosis. It is very exciting to see how far we have come in the last few years.

You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great. I hope this helps you. I would be glad to help you with any other questions.

I was watching Dr. Oz yesterday and they had a doctor/researcher on there who has come up with a pill (I think it was a pill) for cancer that only kills the cancer cells, not all the good cells and it has worked best on luekemia patients but apparently on 16 other cancers. They didn't say which ones but I thought of you and the other ladies on here. I can't remember the name now, glee something.

hi there, I saw this show today and wonder what is with Montel? Last time I saw him on Dr Oz, he was supporting medical Marj. Now it's Root and Herbs that will help. I'm guessing he bought a copper suite company and is looking to make a few bucks. Not sure why he was so hyper?

Had my follow up and sono today, all went well. Thank God. blood pressure good, urine good, blood sugar good, baby still growing. On my last sono last week baby was measuring 6lbs 8 oz, he didnt tell me the measurment this week. On the Bio Physical Profile he measures every other week. I have two more appts left Oct 24 and Oct 31.How it has narrowed down. csection nov 3...now then the pain..

Are u giving him breast milk or formula baby's tend to eat only when their hungry is that's what he eats then that's what he eats i feel one month is to young to tell someone their baby is over weight what are u going to tell someone that delivers a 9 pound baby that their baby is over weight no keep doing your job as a mom your doing great your doctor is just an ***

When they are filling out and putting on weight, they will eat more and sleep less. You will start to notice a distinct pattern.

At this time, there are no plans for a follow-up episode. One can interpret this to be a very safe move on the part of the show, as I think people get the most up in arms about opinions on treatment. Overall I applaud the effort. By stating the severity, he likely reached some people in the audience who can now turn to other resources for further details. Any popular media that dispels the myth that Lyme is a rheumatic disease that only people in CT get is doing a service, IMO.
