Gleevec and acetaminophen

Common Questions and Answers about Gleevec and acetaminophen

gleevec

Avatar m tn Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count. This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML in May with WBC at 222 and an enlarged spleen. Currently on Gleevec 400mg and the last FBC shows WBC at 2.1 . Still maintaining current dose of 400mg.Apart from some annoying blisters on my palm, other side effects rather acceptable.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
Avatar n tn t want to see me, that fever was not from gleevec, and that I needed to monitor myself by myself by simply taken ibuprofen. This is what I did all last week and only this Monday he did a blood work. For now, what can I do to help my body to build my immune system back? Any vitamins? I'll appriciate any advice.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed last year and was immediatley put on gleevec 400mg/day.At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen, hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form, just very tired and a lot of bone pain.
Avatar m tn I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
Avatar n tn You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great. I hope this helps you. I would be glad to help you with any other questions.
1064524 tn?1257199755 When my physician increased the amount I could take in a 24 hour period without decreasing the acetaminophen my pharmacist called my physician immediately and requested the acetaminophen dose be reduced and the hydrocodone be increased. Mine were only Hydro 5/500 apap at the time and the pharmacist had the physician change it to Hydro10/325 apap. Again I am blessed that not only do I have a great physician, I also have an astute pharmacist.
Avatar f tn Is this the sane as tylenol It says pain relief and under it says acetaminophen? It this okay to take for a headache!?

Avatar m tn s never a good idea to mix any medications, including over the counter meds, with alcohol - and especially any meds with acetaminophen (the active ingredient in paracetamol or tylenol). This can increase the risk for liver damage. However, if this was a one time happening, I would say your chances of developing any problems from this one time event would be very low.
Avatar m tn Dont anyone count on liver regeneration to get past an acute overdose of acetaminophen. The damage is permanet and irreversible. The liver is an amazing organ and can do a lot for itself.- - - buit it cannot survive a serious misuse of acetaminophen. I have been a hepatic patient at the Mayo Clinic for 13 years and I have had a lot of time to look at this one. Acetaminophen overdose is the most common form of suicide in the Uk ........ dont try and take a chance.
Avatar m tn So, if Im taking anywhere from 40-80 mg of hydrocodone and roughly 1500-4000 mg of acetaminophen a day and I begin the isoniazid treatment am I risking serious health problems? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Always read and follow label directions. Taking more than the recommended dose (overdose) of acetaminophen may cause liver damage. The warning section of the label states: Liver warning: This product contains acetaminophen. Severe liver damage may occur if you take: •more than 8 caplets in 24 hours, which is the maximum daily amount •with other drugs containing acetaminophen •3 or more alcoholic drinks every day while using this product http://www.tylenol.
Avatar n tn The problem with HCV and vicodin abuse is going to weigh heavily on the acetaminophen component rather than the hydrocodone. Opioids are fairly liver friendly relative to long term high dose acetaminophen. If you can obtain straight hydrocodone rather than the combo, you might be better off; no one should be ingesting more than 2 grams acetaminophen/day.
Avatar m tn For now, you can probably continue with acetaminophen; use as per package directions, and you’ll probably be fine until your doctor can help manage your pain. Here’s an article on HCV and Tylenol: Jorge L. Herrera M.D. Division of Gastroenterology University of South Alabama College of Medicine Mobile AL http://www.hcvadvocate.org/hcsp/articles/Herrera.
1004138 tn?1316251113 No there is no herbal treatment for CML!!! Were you diagnosed with CML, and if so are you seeing a specialist and what treatment are you on.? I am being treated for CML, and was told not to even drink herbal teas well on my medication. Share some more information so I can help you. I have had CML for 13 years.
Avatar f tn Most people still don’t know about this risk and don’t realize that acetaminophen is in hundreds of OTC cold, allergy and headache products and some prescription pain relievers. Check labels for acetaminophen, and don’t take more than 4 grams—equal to eight Extra Strength Tylenol tab--lets—a day from all sources. Alcohol (three drinks or more at a time) and certain other drugs increase the risk. Heavy drinkers and those with liver disease should limit, acetaminophen.
3149845 tn?1506627771 People use it for headaches, and minor aches and pain. It can be found in various cold and flu medications. Acetaminophen can also be used for more severe pain when used in combination with opioid analgesics. Acetaminophen can be found in over 600 OTC and prescription drugs, including Vicodin, Percocet, NyQuil, and Tylenol. Over 50 million people in the USA use acetaminophen each week. Edwin Kuffner, M.D.
Avatar f tn Been taking 800mg ibuprofen and 1000mg acetaminophen every 5 hours for the past 2 days. Will it affect the blood test results, considering I take the test 10 hours after my last ibuprofen and acetaminophen intake?
Avatar m tn t all the booze, drugs and hep that zonked out my liver to stage 3 it was the acetaminophen and lattes that did the trick? But I guess it's ok because I mostly drink espresso now. I guess I'll start washing it down with some Jack Daniels.
1644822 tn?1301031769 So, alcohol both increases the toxic compound and decreases the detoxifying material. Accordingly, the bottom line in an acetaminophen overdose is that when the amount of NAPQI is too much for the available glutathione to detoxify, liver damage occurs." http://www.medicinenet.com/tylenol_liver_damage/page3.
Avatar n tn i have a headache and only acetaminophen was available. I took one 500mg tab like 12:30 and another 500mg tab like 3:00. After a while i feel different like hollow headedness. is this an overdose symptom?
989037 tn?1249104854 or you might just succede at that suicide next time. And you do not want to die from liver and renal failure due to acetaminophen toxicity.....long, slow, and painful. I lost my firstborn son to renal failure at birth ..... we were trained in dialysis and got our son home for 5 months before we lost that fight. So I understand a little about loss. Plus I am a Nam era vet and learned a little about loss during that period. I am very sorry for you. But that loss is part of life.
