Geodon withdrawal symptoms

Common Questions and Answers about Geodon withdrawal symptoms

geodon

Avatar f tn Oh god. Geodon has horrible withdrawal symptoms for most people who take it even after a short period of time. I hear it's like trying to come off of hard drugs. If you're lucky you won't have any withdrawal but I'm guessing you are by the nature of your question by asking how long your withdrawal should last. I unfortunately can't answer how long it will last from personal experience but I've heard it can last four weeks.
Avatar f tn Just wondering is it because of coming of the olanzipine. How long do withdrawal symptoms last? Has anyone else had the same problem coming off olanzipine?
Avatar f tn I just went through a temporary taper, I found I was in withdrawal and had massive headache and flu-like symptoms and had to go back up. Subsequently, I did research on this and discovered that if I stopped taking geodon, I most likely would get Dopamine Agonist Withdrawal Syndrome (DAWS) and want to know if I'd be likely to get this were I to stop taking geodon because it wasn't effective in stopping drawn out acute mania.
Avatar f tn Changing from one medication to another often creates withdrawal symptoms. When I changed from Seroquel which I had been on for 5 years to Risperdal I did have flu like symptoms but they passed within a few days. You are doing the right thing to speak to your psychiatrist but if its that it should go away soon. Its just a transitional process.
Avatar n tn I have now completely weaned myself off of Geodon, I am having terrible withdrawal symptoms such as shaking and shaky hands insomnia nausea light headed confusion, any info on it, will this go away?
Avatar f tn The only thing Geodon did for me when I withdrew from it was give me violent hallucinations which landed me in the hospital. I was extremely skinny anyway because I'm on Topamax for alcohol abstinence; my dosage was increased; lost a little more which came back when I was put on Seroquel. Anyway, depending on what you were on the Geodon for, ask your doctor about going on Topamax. Weight loss is a side effect.
Avatar f tn Thank you for responding to my question, but I still am not sure if the withdrawal of geodon is causing the nausea or what?? How long will the withdrawal symtoms last?? It has been 4 months. It is very difficult to be nauseaus every day for this long and not become down or depressed about it. I do not want to go back on any form of medication so would like to have a reasonable answer to how long these symtoms will go on for.
Avatar n tn How long have you been on the Geodon? My daughter has been on for about a week and her OCD symptoms have not gotten any better. How long did it take for the Geodon work on your OCD?
596143 tn?1226648054 those are the exact symptoms i had on Geodon myself. I was put on 40mg for two days then bumped up to 80mg which i barely tolerated for about a week and a half. the side effects were so severe that i was out of work for two days. when i finally got the pdoc to call me back i had him reduce me back to 40mg a day, which i took for two days, and then the last night i took it, my vision went... that was it for me.. didn't take another dose and had my doc put me back onto the seroquel.
Avatar f tn It takes far more than a week for withdrawal symptoms to abate but you should speak to your psychiatrist about it for follow up as regards what is happening.
Avatar n tn ve heard that the withdrawal symptoms for Geodon are pretty harsh. Someone I know in another online support group goes down 20mgs a week at the doctor's orders.
Avatar f tn Oh yeah I thought I should also add I got really out of control during cold turkey withdrawal behaviorally from Geodon and my voices in my head from before started telling me I should be dead which they never told me things like that before ever among other psychotic things but this of course is really hard on the brain and it didn't happen again when I tapered off proper.
Avatar m tn hi...i've since taken my self off of geodon. as a refresher i was taking 120mg and dropped down to 60 mg for a week. i've read lots of exteme withdrawal symptoms but in the 3 days i've been off i'm not experiencing anything. i'm thinking it's going to take about 2 weeks for my brain to adjust without any geodon and another 2 weeks to hopefully see if my sleep returns. would that be a good time frame to expect a change?
Avatar f tn When I was transferred from Seroquel to Risperdal (at the titration rate my psychiatrist instructed me to follow) it took me several weeks of what I was told were "flu like withdrawal symptoms" (not unsafe but just uncomfortable) for them to subside. This has happened with other medications as well.
Avatar f tn I take geodon and have for about a year. I started taking 160mg a day. If I remember right, I had problems then with drowsiness. Now I've been tapered down to 60mg a day. I didn't notice any withdrawal symptoms going down but everyone is different. I've always taken herbal liver support and my liver enzymes have always been spot on. One thing I have definitely noticed while taking geodon is cold shivers and goose bumps. Seriously it's weird.
603543 tn?1255294450 Med withdrawal is EXTREMELY uncomfortable. I was on Geodon for about two weeks and the side effects were horrible, and the withdrawal was even worse, and I had only been taking it for a short period of time. Is your doctor going to prescribe something different or are you going to attempt to go med free?
Avatar m tn i felt mild but manageable chills on 20 mg geodon, 4 mg perphenazine, then my psychiatrist let me take zero mg geodon and 4 mg perphenazine. upon one day of taking zero mg geodon and 4 mg perphenazine i felt terrible chills up my spine. so i started taking 20 mg's geodon again. that didnt help, still the chills. so on the same day i took another 20 mg geodon, still the same chills.
663901 tn?1232649671 m not prepared to go through withdrawal symptoms because of it... switching from the Xanax was not a problem as I did not take it all the time, only when needed. The pdoc also thinks that a dose of 300mg or 400mg of Seroquel would be my ideal level, but I've tried higher doses before and am pretty much comatose the next day... I'm really trying to take the least amount possible to maintain the efficacy of the drug....
Avatar n tn Went to my dr. today and he changed my meds. Took me off Zxprexa 20 mg and put me on Geodon 80 mg . I''m hopeful that I want have any any withdrawal symptoms. If there are any symptoms what should I be on the look out for?
Avatar n tn Well I take 40MG of Geodon in the morning and 80MG of Geodon at night along with some other medicine due to a high level of OCD. But a while back I went cold turkey on Geodon for 2 days because I couldn't get a refill. So during those 2 days these were my main symptoms, "insomnia, shakiness, heart pounding, dizziness, vision problems".
Avatar f tn Abilify treats my illness in regards the negative aspects as good as Geodon treated the positive (psychotic) symptoms and it treats my positive symptoms as good as Geodon treated the negative ones which isn't too great but I guess you have to pick and choose. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you're going to be better permanently without meds.
Avatar n tn ive been on geodon... about a lil over a year and in the residental im in they wont give me a direct connection about stopping meds.. im also on cogentin with geodon and zoloft. so i brought it upon myself to cut cold turkey.. i have been off since sat... its now tues. ivebeen experiencing dizziness and other feelings.. what does stopping geodon cold turkey do to you?
Avatar n tn s very important that you take it every day, and never just stop it abruptly, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms. You definitely sound depressed. Try taking your medication faithfully every day for several weeks, and if you're not feeling any better go back to your doctor, preferably a psychiatrist as they are most knowledegable in this area. The chills may be from something else, I have hypothroidism, and this was one of my biggest complaints went I saw the Endo.
Avatar m tn //bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/geodon/geodon-side-effects.html From Wikipedia in relation to your question about the heart problems associated with it: "It also slightly increases the QTc interval in some patients and increases the risk of a potentially lethal type of heart arrythmia known as torsades de pointes. Ziprasidone should be used cautiously in patients taking other medications likely to interact with ziprasidone or increase the QTc interval.
Avatar m tn zzzmykids Yeah it wasn't really my choice to go cold turkey when I did, that was the worst. The doctor giving me samples at the time ran out and couldn't prescribe psych meds. I should of been in the hospital instead of freaking out at work of all places but I guess that's just life.
Avatar m tn t know EVERYTHING and far from it, no one does. I went through relapse and withdrawal when I was forced to quit Geodon cold turkey.
