Fosamax lawsuit bisphosphonates

Common Questions and Answers about Fosamax lawsuit bisphosphonates

fosamax

Avatar f tn There definitely is a connection between bisphosphonates like Fosamax and osteonecrosis of the jaws. This has been well established and documented in medical and dental journals. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon is the type of doctor that most commonly diagnoses and treats this condition.
Avatar m tn My wifes orthodontist recommended a consultation with a periodontist prior to him starting the procedure for braces. My wife is a 65 year old in good health who has taken FOSAMAX for 5 1/2 years. She wants to get her teeth straightened. The periodontist has recommended a procedure to reinforce the gums prior to the braces. This has added an additional 6K to the price and about 3 months to the total time to straighten the teeth.
Avatar m tn Recently I saw a new ENT who recommended bisphosphonates therapy and referred me to an endocrinologist for this and he told me if this doesn't work talk to him about an endoscopic operation. He said that a Reclast infusion may help me, or Fosamax. Please tell me what you know about this. I worry about 2 things right now-- what if the bone tumor is something else and not fibrous dysplasia, and the bisphosphonates make it worse by causing a more heavy calcification?
Avatar f tn I am not but 42; however had a complete hysterectomy at 21 and have been on hormone replacement. I know that the early hysterectomy has caused my bone issues(been on Fosamax and actually just started Reclast this week -2.7) but I wonder if it is effecting the breast? I went in for my annual mamo last week and have been called back yet again. New spot directly under the nipple, same breast. Sheduled US for next week. So two mamos and 2 call backs...I am nervous..
Avatar n tn I recommend checking out the website "Save Our Bones". It is an alternative to using bisphosphonates (Fosamax, Boniva, Actonel, et al) These drugs interrupt the remodeling of bones by adding a "sheath" or layer of hardening to the outside of the bones in an effort to prevent bone "loss". Bones remodel (replace) naturally every few years. One of the problems with bones is our diets are often highly acidic by processed foods.
Avatar m tn Do you believe that since my fibrous dysplasia has remained static / unchanged in almost 4 years that bisphosphonates would possibly be helpful to a large degree? Also, what do you know about the risks of taking a high dose of this drug such as Fosamax? Here's one of the articles I found: 1: J Neurosurg. 2008 Nov;109(5):889-92. Related Articles, Links Use of high-dose oral bisphosphonate therapy for symptomatic fibrous dysplasia of the skull. Chao K, Katznelson L.
Avatar n tn I think you are talking about several different things, There are different treats for osteoporosis one of the more popular and common are bisphosphonates. They are given generally prescribed orally and include Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva. They can cause some severe stomach distress as they did for my father. When this happens there are injectable forms of bisphosphonates.
Avatar m tn I am questioning whether he should be taking the Fosamax now due to the fracture that he suffered. Will Fosamax interfere with normal bone healing?
Avatar n tn Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Avatar n tn Can prolonged Fosamax use damage the throat lining and if so, what is the treatment?
Avatar n tn I am a "heart patient" and have been taking Fosamax to improve bone density. Lately I have seen several things that implied I might not should be taking Fosamax. I would enjoy hearing some opinions on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar n tn MY FRIEND HAD TO HAVE INVASION DENTAL WORK, BUT WHEN THE DENTIST DISCOVERED THAT SHE WAS ON FOSAMAX AND HAD BEEN FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, HE INSISTED THAT SHE TAKE A HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED BLOOD TEST. SHE HAD DIFFICULTY FINDING A LAB THAT WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE TEST AND ONE THAT PERFORMED THE TEST. THE RESULTS OF THE TEST INDICATED THAT HER JAW BONE WAS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG[?
Avatar f tn I was dx with osteopenia a month before I started treatment for C and began taking fosamax weekly - the low dose 35 mg per week. Before tx for C my hip T score was -1.7. After treatment my T score was -1.3, so it did improve. The lumbar spine T score imporved during that time too. I continued to take the fosamax thoughout my tx and did not clear the virus, so would surmise the improvement was from the fosamax and not anything else.
Avatar m tn I'm a 31 yr old male, 3 years ago I was diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia of the frontal skull bone after developing a continuous headache. For reference purposes, I posted my MRI images here: http://robsaysrelax.googlepages.com/ My doctors have a strict aversion to operating for this due to it being non-life threatening, as the tumor is stable....
Avatar f tn I have been on Fosamax for almost a year . In the last few months I have developed really bad heartburn. Zantac helps for a few hours but then it starts again.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know any adverse effect with Fosamax, a medication for treating osteoporois or brittle bones? My regular doc (who knows I have HCV) prescribed it to me. I know that the liver processes all drugs and reading the side effects is scaring me. I have stage 2 fibrosis and failed the traditional interferon/ribavirin treatment already.
Avatar m tn My mom is taking Fosamax [Alendronic Acid], she is taking it exactly as directed and is still getting terriible burning in her esophagus. She is really suffering. She says there are no alternative medications she can switch to. Are there any remedys she can take to help ease the burning in her esophagus? Supplements, Vitamins, anything like that? Avatar f tn DEXA scan showed increased bone density loss to that of a DEXA scan done before bc (ordered by gastro due to 30+ yrs of steroids). BC surgeon prescribed Fosamax and Calcichew/Vit.D3. A bone scan showed osteo arthritis in both hips, hands and feet. No meds prescribed. I am on weekly injections of 12.5 mg methotrexate for Crohn's. My GP suggested I stop the Arimidex for 3-4 weeks to see if the pain diminished, which miraculously it has.
Avatar f tn I have IBS> I started to take fosamax once a week (for osteo). did so for 4 weeks. it seemed to bother my esophagus (bumping, reflux) so my doctor suggested actonel. i took one pill a week ago and since have had increasing sensation of a lump in my throat, and like I'm full of phlegm that I can't ever swallow down. I can eat so of course I am swallowing. I'm off all drug right now but throat/phlegm sensations feel settled in, especailly bad at night, and are anxiety provoking.
Avatar n tn Have a-typical trigeminal facial pain after taking fosamax. Surgeon said Fosamax caused this condition and pain.(fossy jaw) I also had to have a bone implant in my jaw.How do I get rid of this constant painful condition? I Hate taking pain meds, but I'm grateful I get some relief. Pain in jaw, ear, eye, forehead, neck, nose all the whole left side of my face and head. Throat and chest pressure /constriction dizziness are now another pressing concern.
Avatar m tn HI, Endocrinologists do prescribe many bisphosphonates because we treat osteoporosis, paget's disease and others with these medications. Perhaps he simply wants to find someone very comfortable with those doses.
Avatar f tn I was put on fosamax about a year ago for. In Oct 2011 my teeth started falling out. I always had good teeth until then. Just had 4 pulled. The day after I had a bad infection in the top of my mouth. Its been 3 wks mouth is just now getting better. My question is. Is fosamax the reason my teeth falling out.
