Common Questions and Answers about Flovent for ee

flovent

Avatar m tn What medicines have you or your children been on for this? My 3 year old son was just diagnosed with EE this past August, and he's been using Flovent 1 puff twice a day since then. The last month or two I've noticed that he has been extremely aggressive, agitated, and just plain mean and disrespectful. I am 100% sure it is due to the Flovent. Is there an alternative I should be asking for? Will all of the EE medicines give his just such a reaction since they are all going to be steroids?
Avatar n tn My 13 year old son has EE too, and I really feel for what you're going through. We had a terrible time last year when he missed weeks and weeks of school just because he was gagging and/or throwing up so badly every morning, doubled over in pain. It's a little better now....Last year he did take budesonide mixed with splenda and a tiny bit of water orally for several months (on top of the Flovent), but it didn't appear to do much, and he would gag on it every time.
Avatar f tn They said start with Xopenex (every 4-6 hrs) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this. How could it help him for only 1-2 days?

Avatar n tn but what i am wondering, like for people who are allergic to alot of things. Is the flovent the same type of medicine lije as the albuterol inhailor. I can use the albuterol inhaler but i am not sure if i can use the flovent or not. Can someone give me this answer please? i have looked and looked for this type of answer but cant seem to find it any where. I would appreciate if someone could help me out please.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old has been on flovent (twice daily) for about 8 months to control a chronic cough/wheezing. His allergist gave us the go-ahead to stop the flovent for the Spring/Summer. Within days of stopping the flovent he developed a rash (pimple like at first, then turning red and angry looking) all around his mouth with the odd pustule around his eyes.
Avatar n tn I would go for the Ventolin. Flovent is a corticosteroid with serious side effects Among them are osteoporosis, overgrowth of Candida albicans, adrenal problems, cataracts, and on and on. In addition to Ventolin you can use natural anti-inflammatories. There are many - vitamin C, vitamin B6, mullein, marshmallow, boswellia, ginger, and on and on. I use a nebulized albuterol combination (Duoneb) as the only prescription. I no longer use inhaled steroids after developing serious problems.
Avatar f tn Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this?
Avatar m tn I am taking Flovent, Spiriva and ProAir. Since I've been on the medication I've been Dxed with idiopathic neuropathy, cervical radiculopathy, carpel tunnel. I also have other entrapment symptoms, ulnar ,and I think in my legs as well. Sometimes I get a burst of nerve pain in my arms and legs a few minutes after using the Flovent and it also causes some tendon swelling. I've shown over and over that I have less pain on lower doses of meds.
Avatar f tn Flovent is a corticosteroid for asthma. I take albuterol, a fast acting inhaler, that does raise my heart rate for about 10-15 minutes. A normal response to the medication. Since Flovent is a steroid, it shouldn't normally raise your rate. However, you may have a sensitivity to that particular medication. You should talk to your doctor about it, see if s/he can prescribe a different one for you.
Avatar n tn my pharmacist says I shouldn't be using flovent but ventolin. When I told my Dr. I was very wheezy in the a.m. and at night.....he increased my flovent to b.i.d. who am I supposed to believe????? Also, why not...
Avatar m tn The reason I ask this question, is in April 2011, after being on fairly high dose prednisone for 5 months and inhaled steriods, I had my endoscopy with biopsy for EE. The results came back negative at that time. Over time the symptoms all returned and by September EE is being discussed again as a possibility. Thanks for your help. And best of luck to each of you.
Avatar f tn Switched up steriod to inhaled Flovent 44 instead of nebulizer and albuterol qid. No results. Chest x-ray and blood allergy (why not at this point) ordered and clear. Follow up with Pulm realized no coughing at night and diagnosed with Protracted Bronchitis. Treated 3 weeks of Augmentin 500mg BID x three weeks. Nasal and throat cultures test negative except for rhinovirus.
Avatar f tn flovent and serevent. Flovent is a corticosteroid for inflammation and serevent is a long acting bronchodialator. Serevent is the drug that can interfere with heart rhythm. When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision.
Avatar f tn I take 4 puffs 44mcg Flovent 2x day so could easily take less of that. Do you think it is safe for me to take the turmeric? My doctor seems open to alternative treatments.
Avatar m tn Has anyone ever heard of TestMeDNA? This is going back to my friends problem that I posted about before, he knows dna usually isn't wrong but based off the date error that's on the DNA papers and The amount of weeks she was when she gave birth. Yea I know that the date that was on the papers is when they could've printed them out but why would a DNA test be printed a week early?
Avatar n tn Serevent and meds like it are long acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters). They are standard treatment for COPD and perfectly safe for that disease. The problem comes in when they are used long term for asthma, and them mainly when no inhaled steroid is used. The only people who have had a problem with these meds are asthmatics. It is not clear exactly what the problem is, but some believe that it is inappropriate use of the medication - ie using it as a rescue inhaler.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your advice. I am still new to this EE but the more I read, the more I am beginning to think that my LES is not the problem but that the EE is causing the heartburn as well! What a wicked disease... Thank you again. I am going to figure this thing out and educate the doctors in the mean time!
Avatar m tn K28, EE can cause all of the symptoms you're listing. It's basically an autoimmune problem that can be very severe. You need to be screened to find out what foods contribute to the cascade of symptoms and then stay away from those items. EE isn't a simple 'food allergy.' It's quite a bit worse.
Avatar n tn I am using advair for my asthma and it seems to help with those symptoms and I also have a rescue inhaler Flovent. But i do clean my advair diskus before and after each use. I dont have any infections in my mouth or lung i just have the white mucus and it has only been happening for two months and I have been using the advair about a year now. I heard from someone that the white mucus could be from allergies...is that true?
Avatar m tn i got my biopsy back and i have ee eosinophilic esophagitis and i have to go for a visit next week.i have been reading about ee and i have everything it says but i also have other things wrong like genital and urinary problems racing heart low blood pressure swelled areas shortness of breath rashes hives constant ichyness all over feels like i almost swallow my tounge and some more. i've done this for years and sometimes i feel as i'm not going to make it as if my organs are giving up.
Avatar f tn I have been on interfereon/ribavirin treatment for 8 weeks. I also suffer from a lifetime of sever allergies and allergy induced asthma. I have been sick for 3 weeks and now have pnemonia. I am on my second round of antibiotics and my doc wants me to re-start my flovent 2x/day. I have read that steroids are bad for treatment and can actually prevent the treatment from working...is this true? Is there any documented evidence I can show to my doctor one way or the other?
Avatar n tn i remember reading the report and the terminology all seemed wrong--i compared it to my girls celiac tests, did a little research, and discovered that what they were seeing could be caused by taking a lot of NSAIDS---which I had been taking for arthritis. I had a Ttg test run and i was clear for celiac. I hate it when i know more than my doctors about certain things.
