Common Questions and Answers about Flovent for cough

flovent

Avatar f tn My 2 year old has been on flovent (twice daily) for about 8 months to control a chronic cough/wheezing. His allergist gave us the go-ahead to stop the flovent for the Spring/Summer. Within days of stopping the flovent he developed a rash (pimple like at first, then turning red and angry looking) all around his mouth with the odd pustule around his eyes.
Avatar f tn This season came around and sure enough, when he got a cold it went straight to lungs (wheezing, SOB, coughing) We started inhaled steroid (budesonide), albuterol regimen again. Proved unsuccessful to resolve cough. Round of Orapred proved unsuccessful to resolve cough. After four months we consulted with Pulmonologist. Switched up steriod to inhaled Flovent 44 instead of nebulizer and albuterol qid. No results. Chest x-ray and blood allergy (why not at this point) ordered and clear.
Avatar f tn They said start with Xopenex (every 4-6 hrs) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this. How could it help him for only 1-2 days?

Avatar f tn As of today he is on flovent, zyrtec and flounsase. And he still has a wet cough after all these months. The pediatrician isn't much help. I took him to an allergerist and he was only alllergic to dust mites. I took him to the ear, nose and throat dr. and he said he wouldn't do anything different then what the allergist is doing (he did not do an xray). The allergist is not saying if he has asthma, not sure I guess. Today he suggested to take off flovent and start taking singulair.
Avatar m tn sometimes a kitty will cough and cough trying to throw a hairball...My Sophia is a shorthair and never throws one, but acts like one is possibly ready to come out....Sometimes the hairballs will get stuck and kitty will cough and cough and cough trying to dislodge it. There is hairball medicine to give the kitty and your vet will be the best person you can ask about this.
Avatar n tn My Daughter was 4 years old when she was diagnosed with asthma and she had same symptoms persistent cough that just sounded horrible and wouldnt go away she was put on Flovent and albuteral and referred to pediatric pulmonaligist and is 8 now and doing great on meds.
Avatar f tn I also use advair 500/50 when I have a flair or during my worst time of the year for me (April-may). But that cough is the frigging worst I have to get prescribe opioids for the cough at night just so I can sleep. I hope you have found your answer as I am responding to a old post.

1699550 tn?1320286617 i have astma it is allergy induced i take flovent and use a rescue inhaualer but my weezing just wont stop and i have a mucusey noisy cough what should i do what could it be
Avatar n tn But the cough and the asthma were still there, so they put me on another Medrol course, and Levaquin. The cough cleared up for the most part, as did the wheeze, but the meds had serious side effects – I stopped the Levaquin after 8 doses, because it was making me depressed and exhausted, which I still am. I am also still coughing a bit (producing a little mucus), and feel short of breath, but my lung function is at 92% and I have optimal peak flow (475).
Avatar n tn I am a non-smoker, I have been coughing for the las month or so, this morning in the shower I started to spit black phlegm. Now I know this is not "normal". My father died from lung cancer at age 61, he was a smoker. I am using "Flovent" in the morning and "Ventolin" as needed. Any idea if that would stop by itself or should I see a doctor for stronger stuff? Thanks.
212161 tn?1599427282 hey thank you for your time. to start ive been to 4 drs none of the asthma drs just reg drs one in er oters at a med first i had a cold in oct had 3 weeks started whezing, went back got inhaler, didnt take scare because i have paps of heart week later took because could not breath, felt better. now its been almost two months, still have the whez now and than and a little cough, running nose/stopped up nose.
Avatar f tn I am on Plaquenil 400mg Metoprolol Tartrate 50mg BID, Proventil HFA 2puffs every 4 hours, Flovent Diskus 250mcg (started one week ago), Nasonex, Augmentin 875 BID. I have had no problems with my cardio selective Beta Blocker prior to catching this cold. My peak flows are still in the High Yellow Zone and I am maxing out on my rescue inhaler and I haven't been on the Flonase long enough to provide control. But I am not wheezing...just stuck in the yellow zone anywhere from 360-390...
Avatar n tn I am using advair for my asthma and it seems to help with those symptoms and I also have a rescue inhaler Flovent. But i do clean my advair diskus before and after each use. I dont have any infections in my mouth or lung i just have the white mucus and it has only been happening for two months and I have been using the advair about a year now. I heard from someone that the white mucus could be from allergies...is that true?
Avatar f tn ve only had the one a week). and I have had past asthma attacks like this, where for a few weeks I just cough every couple of minutes.
Avatar n tn but what i am wondering, like for people who are allergic to alot of things. Is the flovent the same type of medicine lije as the albuterol inhailor. I can use the albuterol inhaler but i am not sure if i can use the flovent or not. Can someone give me this answer please? i have looked and looked for this type of answer but cant seem to find it any where. I would appreciate if someone could help me out please.
Avatar f tn My 5 year old has had a nagging, constant cough for almost 1 month. I can see it in his face that he is tired of all the coughing. The doctor has given me 2 kinds of cough medications, and neither of them seems to help. He did mention that he wanted to diagnose asthma, but he didn't because he did not hear any "wheazing". Not sure what to do next??? This discussion is related to Constant Dry Cough.
Avatar n tn s pollution or air quality - Negative blood and scratch tests for all but cats...we have none. Since October - Flovent for asthma has stopped his cough which was excercise induced - Also runny nose caused the coughing. Started on Rhinochort in October-went to Nasonex, it worked better. Tried to discontinue medications in Feb and he had immediate symptoms again - returned to it. For the most part, both medications have resolved his symptoms.
212161 tn?1599427282 i have had broncuites lots with colds so was thinking thats what it was but dr said asthma, never had before and am 49 years old. now the cold/cough part is mostly gone yes i still have a cough now and than and my nose runs at times than stops up, is the asthma ...
Avatar n tn I would go for the Ventolin. Flovent is a corticosteroid with serious side effects Among them are osteoporosis, overgrowth of Candida albicans, adrenal problems, cataracts, and on and on. In addition to Ventolin you can use natural anti-inflammatories. There are many - vitamin C, vitamin B6, mullein, marshmallow, boswellia, ginger, and on and on. I use a nebulized albuterol combination (Duoneb) as the only prescription. I no longer use inhaled steroids after developing serious problems.
Avatar f tn Hi, I will try to keep this as short as possible. I am a female in my 20s and always been healthy. I do not have a history of asthma in my childhood. I have bad chest tightness with occasional shortness of breath. My symptoms are bad some days and gone on other days. My previous doctor prescribed me Flovent. Also, I was prescribed Albuterol for a rescue inhaler. Flovent didn't work so my dose was increased. I am still on it and still not working.
170935 tn?1225371076 I would get as you describe and the cough would subside with the albuterol inhaler .. when they put me on flovent for the inflammation (not a wheeze) only then did it finally go away and I, too, have been symptom free to a major degree since about 10yrs. I got awfu sinus infections that went into bronchitis and RAD and pollen was a huge trigger for me.
Avatar n tn For cough: make half a glass of onion juice and warm the juice, add a spoon of ginger powder and two spoons of honey, stir and then drink it slowly. This will help the cough. Do not eat banana when you have cough. When the cough is in control, I will suggest other methods to build up the immune system.
Avatar f tn My 7 yr old son has asthma and has a cough (what ever is going around). He is now coughing more and says his chest is tight. His breathing is fine. I gave him his regular meds of flovent and singular, I also gave him 2 puffs from his albuterol inhaler. He is now asking for his breathing treatment which is unlike him cause he hates it. My question is can I give him a treatment if he just had his inhaler?
