Common Questions and Answers about Flovent for cats

flovent

Avatar f tn They said start with Xopenex (every 4-6 hrs) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this. How could it help him for only 1-2 days?

Avatar f tn It is likely, that your son will continue to have wheezing episodes with infections and possibly with exposure to certain allergens. If your son is allergic, you should know that cats are a major factor for allergic/asthmatic children. Hope this response helps.
Avatar n tn but what i am wondering, like for people who are allergic to alot of things. Is the flovent the same type of medicine lije as the albuterol inhailor. I can use the albuterol inhaler but i am not sure if i can use the flovent or not. Can someone give me this answer please? i have looked and looked for this type of answer but cant seem to find it any where. I would appreciate if someone could help me out please.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old has been on flovent (twice daily) for about 8 months to control a chronic cough/wheezing. His allergist gave us the go-ahead to stop the flovent for the Spring/Summer. Within days of stopping the flovent he developed a rash (pimple like at first, then turning red and angry looking) all around his mouth with the odd pustule around his eyes.
Avatar n tn I would go for the Ventolin. Flovent is a corticosteroid with serious side effects Among them are osteoporosis, overgrowth of Candida albicans, adrenal problems, cataracts, and on and on. In addition to Ventolin you can use natural anti-inflammatories. There are many - vitamin C, vitamin B6, mullein, marshmallow, boswellia, ginger, and on and on. I use a nebulized albuterol combination (Duoneb) as the only prescription. I no longer use inhaled steroids after developing serious problems.
Avatar n tn s pollution or air quality - Negative blood and scratch tests for all but cats...we have none. Since October - Flovent for asthma has stopped his cough which was excercise induced - Also runny nose caused the coughing. Started on Rhinochort in October-went to Nasonex, it worked better. Tried to discontinue medications in Feb and he had immediate symptoms again - returned to it. For the most part, both medications have resolved his symptoms.
Avatar m tn My 7 year old, female cat was acting normal and then all of the sudden she started coughing. She had her head low when she coughed. Nothing came up. It only lasted a minute or so (although it felt a lot longer). She immediately went back to normal and appears to be fine now. I've been at school for the past few weeks and she's been staying with my parents, so I don't know if this has been happening frequently or not.
Avatar f tn Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this?
Avatar m tn I am taking Flovent, Spiriva and ProAir. Since I've been on the medication I've been Dxed with idiopathic neuropathy, cervical radiculopathy, carpel tunnel. I also have other entrapment symptoms, ulnar ,and I think in my legs as well. Sometimes I get a burst of nerve pain in my arms and legs a few minutes after using the Flovent and it also causes some tendon swelling. I've shown over and over that I have less pain on lower doses of meds.
Avatar f tn Hi, I will try to keep this as short as possible. I am a female in my 20s and always been healthy. I do not have a history of asthma in my childhood. I have bad chest tightness with occasional shortness of breath. My symptoms are bad some days and gone on other days. My previous doctor prescribed me Flovent. Also, I was prescribed Albuterol for a rescue inhaler. Flovent didn't work so my dose was increased. I am still on it and still not working.
Avatar f tn Flovent is a corticosteroid for asthma. I take albuterol, a fast acting inhaler, that does raise my heart rate for about 10-15 minutes. A normal response to the medication. Since Flovent is a steroid, it shouldn't normally raise your rate. However, you may have a sensitivity to that particular medication. You should talk to your doctor about it, see if s/he can prescribe a different one for you.
Avatar n tn my pharmacist says I shouldn't be using flovent but ventolin. When I told my Dr. I was very wheezy in the a.m. and at night.....he increased my flovent to b.i.d. who am I supposed to believe????? Also, why not...
746512 tn?1388807580 and also flovent.. it is not an as needed drug and should be continued . I have heard of docs ordering it for a few weeks and then telling their pts. to stop.. no such do.. I am an asthma specialist so ask away.
Avatar f tn flovent and serevent. Flovent is a corticosteroid for inflammation and serevent is a long acting bronchodialator. Serevent is the drug that can interfere with heart rhythm. When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision.
Avatar f tn I take 4 puffs 44mcg Flovent 2x day so could easily take less of that. Do you think it is safe for me to take the turmeric? My doctor seems open to alternative treatments.
Avatar n tn Serevent and meds like it are long acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters). They are standard treatment for COPD and perfectly safe for that disease. The problem comes in when they are used long term for asthma, and them mainly when no inhaled steroid is used. The only people who have had a problem with these meds are asthmatics. It is not clear exactly what the problem is, but some believe that it is inappropriate use of the medication - ie using it as a rescue inhaler.
Avatar n tn I am using advair for my asthma and it seems to help with those symptoms and I also have a rescue inhaler Flovent. But i do clean my advair diskus before and after each use. I dont have any infections in my mouth or lung i just have the white mucus and it has only been happening for two months and I have been using the advair about a year now. I heard from someone that the white mucus could be from allergies...is that true?
Avatar m tn ve noticed that he has been extremely aggressive, agitated, and just plain mean and disrespectful. I am 100% sure it is due to the Flovent. Is there an alternative I should be asking for? Will all of the EE medicines give his just such a reaction since they are all going to be steroids?
Avatar f tn I have been on interfereon/ribavirin treatment for 8 weeks. I also suffer from a lifetime of sever allergies and allergy induced asthma. I have been sick for 3 weeks and now have pnemonia. I am on my second round of antibiotics and my doc wants me to re-start my flovent 2x/day. I have read that steroids are bad for treatment and can actually prevent the treatment from working...is this true? Is there any documented evidence I can show to my doctor one way or the other?
Avatar m tn Called the doc and told me it was probably the flovent that made me anxious. So i left town for a few days, distracted myself, had a great workout. i didnt even feel the symptoms, at all. Now im back in town and all those symptoms are back. Its getting very annoying. Before i visit the doc again i wanted to get your opinions. My friends are telling me that it sounds like stress and anxiety. What do you guys think.
Avatar f tn I've had asthma for 21 years, been on Flovent to control it, I'm having sideffect with Flovent and Qvar, is this common after use of inhalers for so long, what can be done if a person become allergic to inhalers, very worred since my asthma is Modered.
Avatar f tn I am on Plaquenil 400mg Metoprolol Tartrate 50mg BID, Proventil HFA 2puffs every 4 hours, Flovent Diskus 250mcg (started one week ago), Nasonex, Augmentin 875 BID. I have had no problems with my cardio selective Beta Blocker prior to catching this cold. My peak flows are still in the High Yellow Zone and I am maxing out on my rescue inhaler and I haven't been on the Flonase long enough to provide control. But I am not wheezing...just stuck in the yellow zone anywhere from 360-390...
