Common Questions and Answers about Flovent feline asthma

flovent

Avatar m tn In fact if you go on the we and punch in Feline Asthma Videos--they will show cats doing this and if your cat is like the Vid, then she needs to have a chest x-ray to confirm it I aAsthma. My Meezy has it and we give her once a day , by inhaler, Flovent. Your Vet will probably prescribe this if confirmed. Don't get the Flovent at your Drugstore--it is very expensive. There is a place on the web under Four Corners Pharmacy --order it from there, it is much less expensive.
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome, this could very well be feline asthma....it sounds as though yr kitty maybe struggling to breath!! I would strongly suggest you have yr Vet test him for this, it can be treated.
Avatar n tn A doctor MAY have prescribed you to take the ventolin before you take the flovent to ensure the flovent reached deep into the lungs but give them a call and double check. In that case - ventolin first to open the lungs and then flovent to reduce inflammation.
Avatar f tn Xopenex is a rescue inhaler, that means you have to use this when he has an episode of Asthma. Flovent is a steroid inhaler. This are preventive inhalers. The type of drug commonly used in preventer inhalers is a steroid. Steroids work by reducing the inflammation in the airways. When the inflammation has gone, the airways are much less likely to become narrow and cause symptoms such as wheezing. Steroid inhalers are usually taken twice per day.
Avatar f tn I am 36 and diagnosed with asthma in 1999. Since then, I have used Flovent 4 times daily and my weight increased rapidly; I have gone up 8 sizes and I exercise daily. Two or three years ago, I started experiencing edema in my feet and I soon developed an underactive thyroid. I experienced bipolar-like mood swings and the edema increased. I went to three different endos who were not very helpful.
Avatar m tn Yes, the medications you are taking, especially Flovent and Spiriva can cause burning, tingling, numbness and pain in various parts of the body. However, these are not the only COPD medications. Also Flovent can worsen asthma like symptoms and cause broncho-spasm. In my opinion you should be switched to other drugs. Asthma can be treated in many ways and one has to find the best method by trial and error. One way to treat is through nebulization.
Avatar n tn Understand your predicament. Flovent inhaler contains steroids and is given to prevent an attack of asthma. Ventolin inhalers contain the active ingredient salbutamol, which is a type of medicine known as a short-acting beta 2 agonist. This is given when a person actually has an attack of Asthma, and is referred to as an ‘escape inhaler’. It would be good to have it with you, handy to use it when you need it. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.
Avatar f tn Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this?
Avatar f tn My 9 yr old gets Asthma usually if he's got a cold or through allergies. For example he is allergic to cats and dogs, and contact can give him a flare up. We were told by his Doc that if anyone gets sick to start treating him upon the first cough. They said start with Xopenex (every 4-6 hrs) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this.
1315759 tn?1274044788 my asthma is not under control, at work it always bothers me. i am on the albuterol pump plus the breathing machine, which both does no good. what other inahlers can i use? or the breathing treatments? at the hospital, they give me xopenex, which works ok, not really good for me. the last time i went to the hospital, the therapist gave me atrovent and xopenex, with 4 doses in one. i told them it was making me too jittery, way more than normal and nobody listened.
Avatar f tn Hopefully the inhaler I get will be better than Flovent. My doctor said that it will help me out to control my asthma. I really appreciate you responding to my post!
Avatar f tn Flovent is a corticosteroid for asthma. I take albuterol, a fast acting inhaler, that does raise my heart rate for about 10-15 minutes. A normal response to the medication. Since Flovent is a steroid, it shouldn't normally raise your rate. However, you may have a sensitivity to that particular medication. You should talk to your doctor about it, see if s/he can prescribe a different one for you.
Avatar n tn I am using advair for my asthma and it seems to help with those symptoms and I also have a rescue inhaler Flovent. But i do clean my advair diskus before and after each use. I dont have any infections in my mouth or lung i just have the white mucus and it has only been happening for two months and I have been using the advair about a year now. I heard from someone that the white mucus could be from allergies...is that true?
Avatar f tn flovent and serevent. Flovent is a corticosteroid for inflammation and serevent is a long acting bronchodialator. Serevent is the drug that can interfere with heart rhythm. When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision.
Avatar f tn I have a history of Asthma, High Blood Pressure, Sleep Apnea and Sero-Negative Rheumatoid Arthritis. My best peak flow is 500. I am a 56 year old woman and was not on any preventative asthma meds at the time of catching the cold and development of the sinus infection. I am on Plaquenil 400mg Metoprolol Tartrate 50mg BID, Proventil HFA 2puffs every 4 hours, Flovent Diskus 250mcg (started one week ago), Nasonex, Augmentin 875 BID.
Avatar m tn As to your question about the dose of flovent, in the treatment of asthma, and whether you will “eventually need a higher dosage as I get older”, the answer is that the dose required may vary over time and is unpredictable. The general rule is that one should be given the lowest dose of an inhaled steroid, required to result in very good-excellent control of asthma. This will require a combined effort by you and your doctor to establish that dose.
Avatar f tn I also suffer from a lifetime of sever allergies and allergy induced asthma. I have been sick for 3 weeks and now have pnemonia. I am on my second round of antibiotics and my doc wants me to re-start my flovent 2x/day. I have read that steroids are bad for treatment and can actually prevent the treatment from working...is this true? Is there any documented evidence I can show to my doctor one way or the other?
Avatar f tn Anyone else have asthma, and pregnant? Has it gotten worse for you since you got pregnant?
Avatar f tn I've had asthma for 21 years, been on Flovent to control it, I'm having sideffect with Flovent and Qvar, is this common after use of inhalers for so long, what can be done if a person become allergic to inhalers, very worred since my asthma is Modered.
212161 tn?1599427282 You probably do have asthma, but everything that wheezes is not asthma and there could be another cause of your wheezing, especially if the wheezing is localized to only one side of your chest or seems to be coming from your windpipe. Your never having had asthma before can only strengthen the suspicion that the cause of the wheezing may not be asthma.
Avatar m tn This year i completely forgot to start my meds, so i had a minor asthma attack. i I went to the doctor. He put me on flovent, my albuterol, also to keep taking my allergy pills, Zyrtec. So i started feeling better.. Im a 28 year old, im working out alot cause i know im a bit overweight. im a runner. And since that attack i havent been able to have a full workout. I lose my breath easily, my chest feels tight, i feel like yawning all the time to catch some air.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone... I was just wondering if anyone knows about asthma treatment during pregnancy. I am a 24 yr old who is looking to get pregnant and have come off my advair and singlair but am now taking my albuterol MDI several times a day. I don't know if there is something other than the advair that I can take or If I should just go back on it.
312330 tn?1245176752 Are any of you taking theophylline for your asthma? If so, have you had a lot of side effects from it? My doc is considering trying this, just looking for people's experience.
212161 tn?1599427282 Xopenex is similar to Albuterol and may cause palpitations and arrhythmias. Flovent and Asmanex are steroid inhalers, both of which are used for asthma.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with acid reflux six years ago and after trying Nexium and everything else, I have been taking Omeprazole (Prilosec) twice a day for about 4 years. I've also made ALL of the dietary changes doctors have recommended. I don't smoke or drink, I sleep on a very expensive adjustable bed. Yet... it's obvious that the acid is not under control because when I eat, I get asthma! Now, I've had asthma since I was six, but it would only flare up after a bad cold.
