Flovent dosing for children

Common Questions and Answers about Flovent dosing for children

flovent

Avatar f tn It is not generally prescribed for short-term use. Inhaled steroids carry substantial risk, especially for children. Ask about alternative treatments if the xopenex is not sufficiently helpful..
Avatar f tn It is likely, that your son will continue to have wheezing episodes with infections and possibly with exposure to certain allergens. If your son is allergic, you should know that cats are a major factor for allergic/asthmatic children. Hope this response helps.
Avatar m tn What medicines have you or your children been on for this? My 3 year old son was just diagnosed with EE this past August, and he's been using Flovent 1 puff twice a day since then. The last month or two I've noticed that he has been extremely aggressive, agitated, and just plain mean and disrespectful. I am 100% sure it is due to the Flovent. Is there an alternative I should be asking for? Will all of the EE medicines give his just such a reaction since they are all going to be steroids?
Avatar f tn They said start with Xopenex (4-6x a day) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this. How could it help him for only 1-2 days?
Avatar n tn but what i am wondering, like for people who are allergic to alot of things. Is the flovent the same type of medicine lije as the albuterol inhailor. I can use the albuterol inhaler but i am not sure if i can use the flovent or not. Can someone give me this answer please? i have looked and looked for this type of answer but cant seem to find it any where. I would appreciate if someone could help me out please.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old has been on flovent (twice daily) for about 8 months to control a chronic cough/wheezing. His allergist gave us the go-ahead to stop the flovent for the Spring/Summer. Within days of stopping the flovent he developed a rash (pimple like at first, then turning red and angry looking) all around his mouth with the odd pustule around his eyes.
Avatar n tn We have read information that states that no children under 6 should use this medication. We are in Vancouver and are looking for a pediatric naturopath. Any facts or tips on either of these questions. We already have his diet very specific to avoid allergins that could trigger an attack. The long term side affects of these drugs are horrible..and so scary as a parent.
Avatar n tn I would go for the Ventolin. Flovent is a corticosteroid with serious side effects Among them are osteoporosis, overgrowth of Candida albicans, adrenal problems, cataracts, and on and on. In addition to Ventolin you can use natural anti-inflammatories. There are many - vitamin C, vitamin B6, mullein, marshmallow, boswellia, ginger, and on and on. I use a nebulized albuterol combination (Duoneb) as the only prescription. I no longer use inhaled steroids after developing serious problems.
1491064 tn?1288394052 my son is five years old and he has asthma, he is on Flovent and Prednisolone for his lungs,(his doctor just took him off singulair) but last year he got pretty sick and his doctor had him on Azithromycin, nasonex,Allegra,Albuterol sulfate,Singulair,Flovent, and Prednisolone. three days into taking all the medications and he started to studder and really bad. i mentioned it to his doctor and she said that studdering is common for boys his age, and to this day he is studdering and very badly.
Avatar f tn m sure there are drugs that you can safely take for your asthma while you are pregnant. The best course of action would be to consult with your doctor if that is what you are the route you are most comfortabe with. Alternatively, a non-toxic salt pipe can be used in conjunction with, or as an adjuvant to allopathic medicine or exclusive of any medication as well.
Avatar n tn I have two children. My daughter is 2 and my son will be 1 in April. They both have horrible breathing problems. My daughter's breathing started to get nasty around 5 months of age and has been good and bad since. My son's breathing just started recently. They are both on pulmacort and albuterol and my son was just put on predisolone. Nothing is working!! Does anyone have any advice? We are a NON smoking home and would NEVER let anyone near our children with ciggarettes.
Avatar f tn Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this?
Avatar m tn I am taking Flovent, Spiriva and ProAir. Since I've been on the medication I've been Dxed with idiopathic neuropathy, cervical radiculopathy, carpel tunnel. I also have other entrapment symptoms, ulnar ,and I think in my legs as well. Sometimes I get a burst of nerve pain in my arms and legs a few minutes after using the Flovent and it also causes some tendon swelling. I've shown over and over that I have less pain on lower doses of meds.
Avatar f tn Flovent is a corticosteroid for asthma. I take albuterol, a fast acting inhaler, that does raise my heart rate for about 10-15 minutes. A normal response to the medication. Since Flovent is a steroid, it shouldn't normally raise your rate. However, you may have a sensitivity to that particular medication. You should talk to your doctor about it, see if s/he can prescribe a different one for you.
Avatar n tn my pharmacist says I shouldn't be using flovent but ventolin. When I told my Dr. I was very wheezy in the a.m. and at night.....he increased my flovent to b.i.d. who am I supposed to believe????? Also, why not...
1241508 tn?1313006082 However, depending on the reason for your question though, (For example - why you are using the progesterone? For pregnancy, for Luteal Phase Defect, for your menstrual cycle or Endometriosis etc?) without that information they might not know how to answer your question. Either way, I do hope that someone can provide you with a helpful answer. I think that you might have to elaborate though on what and where you are using it for.
Avatar f tn It seems like when I started taking my children to school on a daily basis, that is when I started having asthma flare ups. I had one in October of last year, had to be admitted to hospital for 4 days. I was recently admitted to the hospital in March for 6 days. The last time I had to be admitted I was a child. I just got a nebulizer. The inhalers that I am on are Ventolin and Flovent. Last night, I started coughing a bit. This morning I was wheezing and coughing.
Avatar f tn flovent and serevent. Flovent is a corticosteroid for inflammation and serevent is a long acting bronchodialator. Serevent is the drug that can interfere with heart rhythm. When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision.
Avatar f tn I take 4 puffs 44mcg Flovent 2x day so could easily take less of that. Do you think it is safe for me to take the turmeric? My doctor seems open to alternative treatments.
Avatar n tn Serevent and meds like it are long acting beta2 agonists (long acting broncho dilaters). They are standard treatment for COPD and perfectly safe for that disease. The problem comes in when they are used long term for asthma, and them mainly when no inhaled steroid is used. The only people who have had a problem with these meds are asthmatics. It is not clear exactly what the problem is, but some believe that it is inappropriate use of the medication - ie using it as a rescue inhaler.
Avatar f tn The pulmonologist said it was laringer spasms and a viral infection in vocal cords. Hospitalized for 3 weeks. Home on 20 days of oral steroids, flovent and nebulizer treatments. I am not feeling better. The coughng and the raspy, hoarse voice is still there and the gasping for air and choking continues but has gotten a little better. Have not restarted the advair because the asthma and pulmo dr feel the powder will be irritating to my throat.
Avatar n tn I am using advair for my asthma and it seems to help with those symptoms and I also have a rescue inhaler Flovent. But i do clean my advair diskus before and after each use. I dont have any infections in my mouth or lung i just have the white mucus and it has only been happening for two months and I have been using the advair about a year now. I heard from someone that the white mucus could be from allergies...is that true?
Avatar n tn My 3 year old is already taking allegra, flovent and now tagament twice a day. Along with battling what some have said are hives. She has scratched herself till she has scabs on many parts of her body. She has a special lotion, hypo allergenic shampoo, free and clear everything else that I can find. I am almost ready to pull out my hair because it seems that no one can give me a straight answer. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Avatar m tn Would the typical dosage amounts of these meds used to treat children for seizures be applicable for this condition? If these medications cannot be used in children for neurogenic cough, what other alternative meds would be helpful?
