Avatar f tn I am hoping Dr Mathur or Paderia Anitha will comment but any one else is also welcome .There has been some research suggesting that turmeric may help restore steroid sensitivity in COPD. I tried it and it seemed to work very well but I developed chills/mild fever so stopped. It has been about a month since I took any but tried it again today and got a little chill. I had been taking the turmeric in olive oil with some black pepper to improve bioavailability but today did not use pepper.
Avatar n tn I am using combivent(4x a day ) and serevent diskus 50mcg 2x for my moderate severe copd, I have just started Flovent 50mcg inhaler. Is this OK or should I cutdown on the combivent ?
Avatar m tn Yes, the medications you are taking, especially Flovent and Spiriva can cause burning, tingling, numbness and pain in various parts of the body. However, these are not the only COPD medications. Also Flovent can worsen asthma like symptoms and cause broncho-spasm. In my opinion you should be switched to other drugs. Asthma can be treated in many ways and one has to find the best method by trial and error. One way to treat is through nebulization.
Avatar f tn COPD Fev 45-50% , have been on Flovent,/Spiriva/ Proair 10 years and am sensitive to medications. I dont smoke. Have had increasingly reactive airways for 3 years, had first Dxed exacerbation last fall triggered by woodsmoke. No congestion and did not take antibiotics. Pulmo said airways 'sounded just like asthma' but do not have that Dx. Airways felt raspy, swollen, inflamed. Have slowly recovered on a higher dose of Flovent.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have just received a diagnosis of COPD with a lung function test of 60%. I am a smoker but I am only 34 years old. I am trying to quit. I have other chronic conditions such as back and neck pain, basal cell carcinoma, and mental illness. My question stems from when I had sepsis 2 years ago, I almost died from the infection. Is it possible for sepsis to cause lung damage? I also have just recently had bronchitus again and that took about five weeks to get over.
Avatar n tn My mom who is 86 was diagnosed with COPD years and years ago. She took singulair and flovent inhaler and walked 3 miles a day. Two years ago she needed to use Duoneb via nebulizer. She was not short of breath at any time but had a few bouts with chronic bronchitis. Since moving to Florida a year ago, her husband died in Dec of 2007 and she is now short of breath. Her pulmonologist in FL took her off all of lung medications and within 3 days she was wheezing like a maniac.

Avatar f tn Mother worked in hosiery mills and then in 1966 @ Corning Glass Works working with glass cane cutting them down into various lengths to make resistors. She would come home covered in this "glass dust". Immediate family members that lived together with my mother had some sort of lung issues (i.e.
Avatar f tn They said start with Xopenex (4-6x a day) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this. How could it help him for only 1-2 days?

Avatar n tn Both my sister and I have benefited greatly from chiropractor care in helping our asthma even our allergist/immunologist from a top teaching hospital was glad to know that were going to a chiropractor. (We still have meds like flovent and a rescue inhaler but the dosage of flovent was decreased and we do not need our rescue inhalers as much) Here is some info on why: Asthma is a chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways.
Avatar f tn Within days of stopping the flovent again the rash was back, even worse than the first time. I strongly suspect that the flovent (or I should say stopping the flovent) is the cause of the rash and that the use of the flovent supresses it. The pediatrician had not heard of this and subsequently referred us to a dermatologist. I know if will take several weeks to get an appointment with the dermatologist.
Avatar n tn For the past 5 years I have had acute reoccurring bronchitis. Doctors have recently prescribed serovent and flovent to prevent the bronchitis from reoccurring. Since the initial preventative medication I have gotten bronchitis twice and would like to know if there could possibly be a link between the PE and the bronchitis. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn A doctor MAY have prescribed you to take the ventolin before you take the flovent to ensure the flovent reached deep into the lungs but give them a call and double check. In that case - ventolin first to open the lungs and then flovent to reduce inflammation.
Avatar f tn Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this?
Avatar n tn my pharmacist says I shouldn't be using flovent but ventolin. When I told my Dr. I was very wheezy in the a.m. and at night.....he increased my flovent to b.i.d. who am I supposed to believe????? Also, why not...
Avatar f tn Does anyone get a racing heart from taking flovent, or has expienced dizzeness, short of breath and lots of headaches?
Avatar f tn I am 36 and diagnosed with asthma in 1999. Since then, I have used Flovent 4 times daily and my weight increased rapidly; I have gone up 8 sizes and I exercise daily. Two or three years ago, I started experiencing edema in my feet and I soon developed an underactive thyroid. I experienced bipolar-like mood swings and the edema increased. I went to three different endos who were not very helpful.
Avatar m tn What medicines have you or your children been on for this? My 3 year old son was just diagnosed with EE this past August, and he's been using Flovent 1 puff twice a day since then. The last month or two I've noticed that he has been extremely aggressive, agitated, and just plain mean and disrespectful. I am 100% sure it is due to the Flovent. Is there an alternative I should be asking for? Will all of the EE medicines give his just such a reaction since they are all going to be steroids?
Avatar n tn usually in the morning it seems because my nose felt so dry inside or whenever the congestion would switch over. I saw my primary care again and they prescribed flovent and albuterol for the coughing/wheezing. I took those for the next couple of months and that cured the coughing/wheezing for the most part.
Avatar f tn flovent and serevent. Flovent is a corticosteroid for inflammation and serevent is a long acting bronchodialator. Serevent is the drug that can interfere with heart rhythm. When I started having symptoms in April, I stopped using Advair and now I only use Flovent. When I saw my pulmonologist I told him that I was only taking flovent (he had given me a prescription for both to use when my asthma got really bad.) He agreed with my decision.
