Flovent and cataracts

Common Questions and Answers about Flovent and cataracts

flovent

Avatar n tn I am using advair for my asthma and it seems to help with those symptoms and I also have a rescue inhaler Flovent. But i do clean my advair diskus before and after each use. I dont have any infections in my mouth or lung i just have the white mucus and it has only been happening for two months and I have been using the advair about a year now. I heard from someone that the white mucus could be from allergies...is that true?
Avatar n tn I would go for the Ventolin. Flovent is a corticosteroid with serious side effects Among them are osteoporosis, overgrowth of Candida albicans, adrenal problems, cataracts, and on and on. In addition to Ventolin you can use natural anti-inflammatories. There are many - vitamin C, vitamin B6, mullein, marshmallow, boswellia, ginger, and on and on. I use a nebulized albuterol combination (Duoneb) as the only prescription. I no longer use inhaled steroids after developing serious problems.
Avatar f tn Flovent is a corticosteroid for asthma. I take albuterol, a fast acting inhaler, that does raise my heart rate for about 10-15 minutes. A normal response to the medication. Since Flovent is a steroid, it shouldn't normally raise your rate. However, you may have a sensitivity to that particular medication. You should talk to your doctor about it, see if s/he can prescribe a different one for you.
Avatar f tn They said start with Xopenex (4-6x a day) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this. How could it help him for only 1-2 days?

Avatar f tn I strongly suspect that the flovent (or I should say stopping the flovent) is the cause of the rash and that the use of the flovent supresses it. The pediatrician had not heard of this and subsequently referred us to a dermatologist. I know if will take several weeks to get an appointment with the dermatologist. I suspect my little guy needs oral antibiotics + a topical treatment to get rid of this.
Avatar f tn Albuterol created a vocal cord problem. Now been put on Flovent Diskus 100mgc and continue the Albuterol. Question, do the Flovent and Advair have the fluticasone propionate ingredient in common? Tonight will be my 1st use of the Flovent. Concerned that I may have a mitral valve problem plus the emphysema. My symptoms of attack are severe shortness of breath, high heart rate, and the immediate need to urinate. Does anyone have anything similar to this?
Avatar m tn I have had a endoscopy and was told I have a fairly serious case of this disease, which is why I have swallowing difficulties and I given a prescription for flovent to treat it. However, I now have a $4000 deductible on my health insurance, and can no longer afford to spend $200 or $250 for the flovent inhaler. Canadian versions of the inhaler are slightly cheaper, but not by much.
Avatar n tn I was very wheezy in the a.m. and at night.....he increased my flovent to b.i.d. who am I supposed to believe????? Also, why not...

Avatar m tn I am taking Flovent, Spiriva and ProAir. Since I've been on the medication I've been Dxed with idiopathic neuropathy, cervical radiculopathy, carpel tunnel. I also have other entrapment symptoms, ulnar ,and I think in my legs as well. Sometimes I get a burst of nerve pain in my arms and legs a few minutes after using the Flovent and it also causes some tendon swelling. I've shown over and over that I have less pain on lower doses of meds.
20811006 tn?1518459943 s over works (Renal doc explained it that way to me) and a slow heart beat 46+ average at rest (Have been tested multiply times by cardiologist and he cannot find a cause and says heart is healthy and not to be concerned) so also very concerned what taking Flovent everyday could make these problems worse.
Avatar f tn I went to three different endos who were not very helpful. The edema spread to my hands, face and neck and I took myself off Flovent two summers ago and vomited several times from withdrawal and had a major stomachache. I had two asthma attacks that summer and was put back on Flovent. To make a long story short, my entire body is now swollen and it kills me to stand on my feet----I'm on my feet 8 hours a day at my job.
Avatar f tn Ive had asthma since I was in the 4th grade I am now 27 and have 3 kids. I absolutly can not go with out an inhaler. My kids are perfect. I don't like advare but flovent and aberterol is what I have been on for years. I would not stop taking any of the medicines that you are taking currently without your docters permission. That could be dangerous. I would ask about the flovent everyone is different and there are differnt types of treatment.
Avatar f tn I also have panic attacks and asthma and i take xanax and advaire for them I also have pvc's pac's and svt and i take 120 mg of inderal and 120 mg of verapamil and have noticed no problems to speak of. The inderal is a beta blocker and the verapamil is a calcium channel blocker I really haven't noticed either making my asthma worse. I guess if you are worried talk to your doctor and pharmacists and see what they recommend.
Avatar n tn I discontinued the use of Advair (which is basically a combination of Serevent and Flovent) because it almost killed me (choking). It also caused adrenal fatigue, was harming my eyes, and was subverting my immune system. In place of Advair I use a variety of natural anti-inflammatories and mucolytics. My health is much improved and I found that the severe bronchitis I had was in fact CAUSED by the Advair.
Avatar n tn I DO have high myopia (-10) but had no eye problems other than this whatsoever, until I had a chronic sinus problem four years ago after 30 years of life with barely a cold - floaters and symptoms of cataracts (glare, halos etc) arrived within a month or so - despite my hihg myopia i had never seen even one floater. I had had routine but thorough eye exams just before the sinus problem started and no cataracts or floaters were present.
Avatar n tn My optometrist recently informed me I have early cataracts in both eyes. I was shocked due to my age (55) and excellent health (other than my asthma). I read of links between these drugs and cataracts. If I reduce the usage of my inhaled meds would this slow down the cataract progression? Do eye vitamins like Alcon's I-Caps help to slow the progression of cataracts? I can't find any other risk factors and this is really bothering me.
Avatar m tn That study is from 2009 and is flawed, not controlling for the fact that patients on beta blockers are in the older age groups where cataracts are more common. In any case in 2021, beta blockers have many potential side effects but cataracts is not one of them.
Avatar n tn If I remember correctly, there is a possibility it can. They usually will want to do eye testing and monitoring before and during tx. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will soon chime in.
Avatar m tn i have used proair and the little red abuteral inhaler and now im on flovent none of these has worked for me. abuteral makes me really shaky and nervous and flovent is useless and really expensive. do you know of any other good inhalers or medications to try and also is there any meds to stop the irratation and itchy feeling in throat and chest due to asthma.
Avatar f tn i did see dr and had blood tests and nothing was found and i was told i was well and feel well, apart from rhinitis which i still get, but i cant help wasting my life worrying. If the steroids are likely to cause PSC I will regret taking them and wish i had used a natural treatment, but at least i will understand why the psc cataracts appeared.
Avatar m tn What medicines have you or your children been on for this? My 3 year old son was just diagnosed with EE this past August, and he's been using Flovent 1 puff twice a day since then. The last month or two I've noticed that he has been extremely aggressive, agitated, and just plain mean and disrespectful. I am 100% sure it is due to the Flovent. Is there an alternative I should be asking for? Will all of the EE medicines give his just such a reaction since they are all going to be steroids?
