Avatar m tn Yoga is a fantastic way to stay active and healthy, but it's important to have the right equipment to help you perform your poses with ease and safety. One of the most essential items in your yoga kit is a non-slip yoga mat, which can help prevent slips and falls and provide better stability during your practice. Additionally, a yoga stretching strap can be an invaluable tool for deepening your stretches and improving your flexibility.
333672 tn?1273792789 Hi so sorry, I should have asked what movement you can do before I started going on about yoga, I'm only at the begin of all this and my flexibility is poor, when I go to yoga I sometimes feel embarrassed as I'm doing very little and some women of a certain age (over 70) wow they makes me feel depressed, but the little bit I can do helps. So embarrassed or not I go.
1301089 tn?1290666571 t do it for any religious reason - just because it focuses on stretching, relaxing, breathing. It helps with the flexibility, it relaxes me and even helps lower my blood pressure; oh, it works for weight loss too. Yep, guess that's all bad for me!!
Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.
Avatar f tn Stretching isn't the best way to improve flexibility—lifting weights through a full range of motion is, according to a recent study at the University of North Dakota. Pausing for 2 to 3 seconds at the "down" position of the lift (where you feel the stretch) without relaxing your muscles is even more effective.
Avatar n tn Stretching the front and back or your leg to increase the flexibility in your knee. Perform stretching exercises at the end of your workout when your muscles are warm. Stretch the front of your leg in a standing position by bending your knee and raising your foot up toward your backside. Grasp the ankle with your hand to enhance the stretch. Stretch the back of your legs in a seated position with your legs extended on the floor. Fold forward over your straight legs to stretch your hamstrings.

Avatar n tn You can actually increase your height with certain foreign physical activities, and simple things like yoga. You do a lot of stretching, you can actually grow an extra inch at the end of the class, and if you do it regularly, build up muscles and strengthen your posture you will truly appear taller. You can stretch your legs, and your spine. But your a guy, so you may find yoga to be a little girly for you. The thing is, its very good for strengthening as well if you find the right kind.
Avatar n tn I do basic yoga asana (asana means that it is less cardio more posture and stretching) since the beginning of my pregnancy. I will be 35 weeks on Tuesday and it relieve my minor pains (hips, pelvic, lower back, buttocks and thighs). It also help to have a good posture and strengthen your core muscles for birth and baby position. It is great to take that time for you to relax. Sincerely, yoga is a revelation for me.

Avatar n tn I want to increase flexibility and muscle tone. Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent yoga/exercise DVD?
Avatar f tn One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching. Dynamic flexibility, which is moving your muscles and joints within your full range of motion repetitively, should be performed before weightlifting because it stimulates higher neural activity and increases tissue elasticity.
Avatar f tn Congrats, rk! I bet Yoga really does help, because I have been stretching, with my new Fitness Ball, and I have seen alot of improvement,m in terms of flexibility. I need to checkout a book about beginning yoga, from the library!
Avatar m tn I have flexibility issues in almost all of my joints (Knees, elbow, wrist, ankle). Coincidentally, all the joints in the right side of my body are worse. I cannot squat as the back of my feet cannot touch my butt, my hand cannot touch my shoulder, cannot do pushup as wrist will hurt a lot. I have done xrays but doctor said my xrays are fine. Went through physiotherapy but joints flexibility does not improve no matter how much i stretched.
Avatar m tn I have been taking yoga-lates. it's yoga and pilates. This class is for almost all levels. I have been doing well on it. I am not able to do everything (about 85% completion and more the more I do it). It helps with flexibility and cardio, without totally straining your body. I used to be able to walk three miles in 45 min. now I can't walk a flight of stairs. Changing my diet to more fruits and veggies, and cutting down on fried foods help. Tumeric helps for the inflammation. Good luck.
Avatar f tn It may help with joint pain and flexibility and your balance. Yoga typically involves deep breathing, stretching, and poses that tone, strengthen, and align the body. Both of these low-impact exercises are easy on the joints and can improve flexibility and muscle strength. Look for classes or you can buy a DVD. The latissimus dorsi is the broadest muscle in your back. Stand with your back straight and feet shoulder-width apart. Hold your arms above your head, and hold one hand with the other.
Avatar f tn Do I feel good on the off days because of the stretching and exercise or do I feel good because the stretching and exercise is taken out of the equation? I hope you are all well and having a "good" day. FU MS!
