Proper sleep and walking positions and abdominal and back exercises can help maintain your upright posture. Most people with ankylosing spondylitis don't need surgery.
Avatar f tn Yoga typically involves deep breathing, stretching, and poses that tone, strengthen, and align the body. Both of these low-impact exercises are easy on the joints and can improve flexibility and muscle strength. Look for classes or you can buy a DVD. The latissimus dorsi is the broadest muscle in your back. Stand with your back straight and feet shoulder-width apart. Hold your arms above your head, and hold one hand with the other.
Avatar n tn It’s based on moving through a routine of set poses, or stretches, which increase flexibility, yet protect joints from injury. As your skill builds, the added poses become increasingly challenging in different ways, which makes yoga an exercise routine that grows with you. Another basic yoga concept is that everyone is on his or her own path, progressing at his or her own pace. So leave behind the competitive spirit or fear that you’re not as good as others.
Avatar f tn One study performed at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed that subjects who performed dynamic warm-ups had higher performance in the vertical jump test than those who just did standard stretching. Dynamic flexibility, which is moving your muscles and joints within your full range of motion repetitively, should be performed before weightlifting because it stimulates higher neural activity and increases tissue elasticity.
Avatar m tn I have flexibility issues in almost all of my joints (Knees, elbow, wrist, ankle). Coincidentally, all the joints in the right side of my body are worse. I cannot squat as the back of my feet cannot touch my butt, my hand cannot touch my shoulder, cannot do pushup as wrist will hurt a lot. I have done xrays but doctor said my xrays are fine. Went through physiotherapy but joints flexibility does not improve no matter how much i stretched.
Avatar f tn Someone please tell me where to find some good yoga exercises. I can't seem to fund any good ones. I'm 20 weeks! And would like some input on what other mommies do??
Avatar f tn I am 26 years old and have experienced back pain over the last 10 years. I am extremely flexible and almost all of my joints hyperextend. I can dislocate my shoulders on command and can "jump rope" with my arms. My wrists can turn just about 360 degrees and I can bend my thumbs backwards. My elbows and knees both hyperextend. Not only have I had back pain, I started to have wrist pain about 3 years ago, elbow and shoulder pain about a year ago and knee pain over the last few months.

Avatar f tn Burning, tingling, pins and needles, pain etc that runs down from your bottom to your ankle is the classic sign of sciatica because it travels the route of the sciatic nerve and to be brutally honest, the fact the muscle twitches have spread so fast throughout your body, it is more likely a physical refection of your escalating level of anxiety, and or caused by a general vitamin imbalance eg magnesium etc Hypermobility is commonly used by physiotherapists and it just describes excessive mov
Avatar f tn Stretching can cause your muscle fibers to contract and shorten reflexively. (stretch reflex) which is your body's defense to avoid tearing of your own joints and muscles. This can cause the muscle to be less responsive to length change and more sensitive to pressure and touch. Static stretching, increases your risk of injury and does not promote flexibility. The American Council on Exercise warns against stretching cold muscles, promoting warm-up activities before stretching.
Avatar n tn Stretching the front and back or your leg to increase the flexibility in your knee. Perform stretching exercises at the end of your workout when your muscles are warm. Stretch the front of your leg in a standing position by bending your knee and raising your foot up toward your backside. Grasp the ankle with your hand to enhance the stretch. Stretch the back of your legs in a seated position with your legs extended on the floor. Fold forward over your straight legs to stretch your hamstrings.
Avatar m tn they seemed to focus on my allergy and overlooked my joints problem. This joints issue still puzzles me; 1 of the doctors suspected Cubital tunnel syndrome in my left hand. Note: - no pain even when my MCP joints "switch" - i've seen trigger finger videos; it's not like that at all: the feeling is only in my MCP, not PIP nor DIP.

It'll also help you do a wicked downward facing dog, so join a yoga class and relish your new flexibility. Relaxin production peeks at 14 weeks and remains in your system until after baby is born.
Avatar m tn Also recommended knee procedure. They also gave me strenthening exercises, which I am still doing. Run twice a week and some runs are better than others. It seems to occur when my toes are pointed for long periods of time as I tend to tense my feet quite hard.
Avatar n tn I don't have any swelling in my joints. The pain in all joints started about 7/05/08. Ninety five percent of the time it's when I am sleeping. I can't hardly turn over is is so painful. Almost makes me cry. Also if I sit too long. Very difficult to stand up walk the first 10-15 steps. The pain subsides drastically but stiffness is still there. I am recovering from acohol abuse. The pain started the first week into inpatient.
Avatar m tn I have been sore right around both of my gluteus Maximus muscles since December. The muscle is very tight and seems to be restricting the movement of my lower lumbar. It's uncomfortable to sit even for short periods of time as there is a dull pain from my glutes down the back of my legs. I have been to a spinal PT and I temporarily felt better but not much. He focused only on my spine and said my movement was very limited for a 27 year old.

Avatar n tn When i do certain exercises i get a strange crunching/grinding feeling in various joints when undertaking some exercises. The joints are: knees, shoulders, ankles and hips. Avatar m tn Hi, I'm 25 and for a long time now, a few of my joints pop and crack often when moving, notably the shoulders, knees, wrists and ankles. These cracks don't hurt but are very annoying. I've started taking Cod Liver Oil supplements as I was told they help joint problems. Will this help? The other joint crack is in my thumbs. Most notable my right thumb. I've been playing guitar for 12 years and I have until now put it down to some sort of RSI.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know of gentle exercises to get my stamina up? I have bad knees, and rheumatoid arthritis in my back so I'm not super flexible. Want to get extra weight off to help improve health...
Avatar m tn ve been diligent with my physical therapy and I have full flexibility in the leg. I can bend the leg at the knee and I can fully extend it. I can put weight on the leg and the doctor no longer requires me to wear the surgical boot. I still need to use a cane or crutches to get around. How long does it take for the tibia fracture to fully heal, and is there anything I can do to quicken the healing process on my own other than exercises and physical therapy? Thank you.
