Avatar n tn Conditioning exercise, also called aerobic exercise, improves cardiovascular fitness. There are countless benefits to aerobic exercise! Among them, it makes your heart and blood vessels healthier, prevents disability, and improves mood and well-being. Good conditioning exercises for people with rheumatoid arthritis include low-impact activities like walking, swimming, bicycling, or using an elliptical machine. Any of these will get your heart pumping.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with Osteoarthritis. What kind of exercise can I do? I need to lose about 25 lbs. and I was walking but now I'm not sure if that is good for me.
Avatar f tn Interval training, which is cardiovascular exercise that alternates between periods of high- and moderate-intensity activity, helps you burn more calories than moderate-intensity activity alone. Zumba involves both fast and slow dancing, so it works like interval training. Zumba works your whole body, helping tone every muscle group, particularly your back and abdominals. The dance moves may also improve your posture, balance and flexibility.
Avatar n tn Perform yoga or stretches after each exercise session to improve your flexibility and reduce your risk of soreness and injuries. Stretching helps to elongate your muscles to give your legs a leaner appearance. No excess sodium and improve your diet to reduce water retention. Your knees and other areas appear larger when you carry excess water. Cut out processed meat, table salt, salty snack foods, canned foods and most frozen dinners.

Avatar m tn A question on behalf of my uncle. Lack of exercise is a risk factor for coronary heart disease. Is it because no exercise can increase cholesterol or is there some other reason.???
20893158 tn?1579358911 t very useful, as you need to run long enough and fast enough to get out of breath and then maintain that for a time to get the full benefits of running, and running too much might be harmful. But that leaves that huge middle which is still based on your enjoyment, not necessity.
Avatar n tn I've been quite sedentary since taking an early retirement several years ago. I'm 53 years old now and trying to get out of a state of being very deconditioned. I've been walking for 20 minutes a day, which is pretty minimal, so I decided to buy a Lifefitness 9500 elliptical trainer. The trainer certainly used some new muscles, my legs were like rubber for the first few days, and I only used it for a few minutes.
Avatar f tn Stretching is an exercise that has several benefits for COPD. It will help improve your flexibility and range of motion. Stretching prepares your muscles for exercise, which will help prevent muscle strain and ward off injury. Strengthening exercise involves muscle tightening that is done repeatedly. Upper body strengthening exercise is beneficial for COPD patients because it helps improve the strength of respiratory muscles. Practice a coughing exercise to help keep your lungs clear.
Avatar m tn Usually the main predictors of aortic dissection are family history, aortic size, and aortic flexibility. For someone of your aortic size, I would take it easy. Try the ARB approach with a max or ultra-max high dosage (as long as your doctor lets you) and see if that reduces aortic size and aortic flexibility (the "pulse pressure" is one way to estimate the flexibility - Google it). If so, then perhaps you can talk to your doctor about athletics.
Avatar m tn My mother is a nurse who disagrees with me that you need a structured diet and fitness program from a doctor to truly lose weight. She is giving loads of grief because I want to the lose weight but I have not done any exercising till I have seen the specialist concerning it. I told her I wanted to make the appointment but told me to pretty much run 3 miles and eat whatever I want. I am not a nurse but that does not sound correct to me.

Avatar m tn I am very active and cycle about 5 hours a week and about 5 hours a week of more weight bearing exercise. I have not been able to regain full flexibility to the knee, I am lacking 10 degrees of motion. I ice my knee most every day after exercising. I completed a series of 3 shots of Euflexxa about 6 weeks ago and have felt no difference from that. I started physical therapy twice a week for the last three weeks which lasts about 1.
Avatar m tn If you can understand that with increasing age the flexibility decreases and you can regain that with much practice and concentration. You need to strengthen your feet with proper exercise and control over a period of time, we are sure you can do better than what you are doing now and under a good trainer. Take care!
Avatar f tn t the best way to improve flexibility—lifting weights through a full range of motion is, according to a recent study at the University of North Dakota. Pausing for 2 to 3 seconds at the "down" position of the lift (where you feel the stretch) without relaxing your muscles is even more effective.
Avatar n tn has that brought a refreshing flexibility while affording me spontaneity in exercise and eating and ... simply sleeping in! What do you think? Are you a pumper? Might you be interested in pumping, which is MUCH less invasive & risky than surgery but which does free up some of the mental math pressures? I've been pumping for about 9 years and each "generation" of pump has been a big advance.

Avatar f tn Hi, I exercise in the water, in a swimming pool. It's almost weightless, and you can stop anytime you want, unlike being on a long walk and having to walk all the rest of the way... You do have to get your doctor's permission, in case there are surgical scars which need to heal. You can begin by slow walking. Do a few leg lifts. Push the water down with your arms while standing. I love exercising in the water.
579258 tn?1250649343 I am SO well aware of the benefits of regular vigorous exercise and have felt the benefits for myself, but admittedly have not been adhering to my regular exercise regimen secondary to an insane work schedule. So I voted that I needed to make it a priority in my life.
1216231 tn?1272475704 ve heard of that blood-type diet, but I doubt it has any real bearing on how much of what type of meat we should eat. Also, there's just no way under the sun I'd ever become a vegetarian. Just look at our teeth. The incisors and canines are meant for tearing while the back ones are flat and only meant for mashing. http://bit.ly/d4jhyt If we were meant to be herbivores, we would not have incisors or canines.
