Avatar m tn Hello, For prostate problems, antihistaminics and decongestants should be best avoided. There are some newer antihistamines on the market that do not cause these side effects on your prostate, including Seldane. This can be taken after prescription. The best way is to reduce exposure to the allergen. To reduce dust mites in your home, remove drapes, feather pillows, upholstered furniture, non-washable comforters and soft toys. Replace carpets with linoleum or wood.
Avatar n tn Hi I have had severe Hives for 2 mos. This is the worse outbreak I've ever had, and my last case of Hives was 9 yrs ago. I was in the ER 2x this past month, put on IV steroids, antihistamines & Ranitidine. I had extensive blood work done for a multitude of alleries- all negative, Lupus, Lympoma, Lymes disease, CAT scan, all negative. I've done 2 rounds of Presnisone (which helped greatly), but 2 days after the last Prednisone pill- boom the hives came back bad.
Avatar m tn the med is very helpful everytime the rashes appears, i just take the medicine and the rashes will gone but i have to take it everyday, i dont know if this medicine have side effects. my mother have also urticaria and my neighbor also develops skin rashes, i dont know where i get this or what will be the treatment for this type of allergy because it really affects my daily activities.
Avatar m tn This sounds like an allergy problem -- you don't say you have a sinus infection, and even if you did they usually go away without treatment. Taking antibiotics would get rid of an infection but increase your allergy problem. The best thing is to find out what you're allergic to -- food, material, toxins, pollens, whatever -- and avoid them, and work to keep your immune system in check to control inflammation. Allergies are not easy to deal with, though.
Avatar m tn Double conventional doses of these non-sedating antihistamines such as Cetirizine, Loratadine, Acrivastine and Fexofenadine may be needed to get symptom relief. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine or Hydroxyzine are used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. You may take Vitamin C along with the prescribed treatment. Vitamin C is a general anti-allergy supplement.
Avatar f tn The GP says that stress has caused these hives and so I have been prescribed some antihistamines (fexofenadine) which did not work that well.
Avatar n tn Both are mainly used in treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis and treatment of chronic idiopathic urticaria. Headache and drowsiness are side effects seen with loratidine. Whereas headache and vomiting with fexofenadine. Both are quiet safe and any one can be used for which consult your local health care provider. Take care and regards.

Avatar n tn While liberally recommending such drugs is likely not to cause any harm, they are also not likely to help and may (rarely) have untoward side effects or, at least, cost patients additional money. So, perhaps it's nitpicking to belabor this point, but as professionals, I think we should be held to a higher standard. Cheers and thanks for offering your advice!
603223 tn?1220007818 I used to study previously late at nights for long hours, but recently for the past 6 months i have been facing this problem that when ever i am out in some place where there is dust or the enviornment is smoky i start to feel its effects later at night or the other day when i wake up. I usually sneeze for almost about 10 - 15 times and with that some watery liquid comes out of my nose. Its neither sticky. Its all transparent and watery.
Avatar f tn You can take OTC antihistaminics like benadryl or Claritin. Longer-acting antihistamines are available by prescription. They cause less drowsiness and can work just as well. These medications include fexofenadine (Allegra), and cetirizine (Zyrtec). You can also use nasal corticosteroid sprays like nasocort or flonase. Decongestants may also be helpful in reducing symptoms such as nasal congestion, but they should not be used for long periods.

Avatar m tn Here in Australia it is spring time and the pollen count is through the roof. As a result I am suffering from hayfever/asthma and typically do each year from 20 October to 20 November and pretty much to those dates. At 34/63 weeks on tx it certainly is adding an extra dimension to my sx's but still upright. I have found it necessary to take 180mg of 'fexofenadine hydrochloride' an anti-hystermine I guess.
1363867 tn?1277825361 Hi Kali, You are having allergic rhinitis, Try with nasal spray (such as Rhinocort aqua/Flixonase/Flomist), antihistamines (Cetrizine/Fexofenadine), saline nasal drops (to keep the nose moist) and drink plenty of water. Remember there is no cure for allergic problems. PREVENTION IS THE BEST TREATMENT. Do not sleep directly under the fan, everyday change the bed sheet before going to sleep, when ever you are exposed to just cover your nose with a clean handkerchief. Any doubts you are welcome.

2114467 tn?1358210256 I have had good luck with Benedryl (diphenhydramine) I am not crazy how sleepy and thirsty it makes me but just about all antihistamines have anticholinergic side effects. Sure, ask your doctor about it but my guess is that it will be OK. If it works for you now then I would definitely take it. It helps to have as many knows as possible when you are taking new meds & new rescue meds.
Avatar f tn t buy it regularly as it is more expensive is Aerius which uses desloratadine, a metabolite of loratadine (copied from their site). I got no side effects from either one.
