Common Questions and Answers about Fetal development stages lungs

fetal-development

Avatar f tn Breathing in the Womb Babies do not actually breathe in the womb---at least, not in the usual sense. Fetal lungs are not fully functional, and are not even able to fully expand, until after birth. During the later stages of gestation, the fetus may "practice" breathing by inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid. The fetal lungs do not process the amniotic fluid, the way fully formed lungs process air, but experts believe this "breathing" is important to fetal lung development.
Avatar f tn The fetal heart undergoes a considerable amount of growth very early in pregnancy. The most critical period of its development is between three and seven weeks after fertilization, when a simple heart tube assumes the shape of a four-chambered heart. In fact, the heart actually begins beating by the 22nd day of life.
Avatar f tn The new standard in the US is 39 weeks.

For men it helps with adequate levels of testosterone and sperm counts. Research has shown with 15 mgs a day in men it can increase semen and testosterone production, in women it can help ovulation and fertility. Natural resources of Zinc are fish, oysters, crab, turkey, chicken and beef.
Avatar n tn But more importantly, once she does become pregnant, low thyroid hormones will definitely impact the developing fetus. The earliest stages of fetal development is the time when it is most critical for the mother to have sufficient thyroid hormone. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24015847 "Conclusion: Early TH [thyroid hormone] insufficiency from maternal hypothyroidism affects offspring hippocampal development and memory.
Avatar f tn I'm 25 weeks and I'm having a boy. Ive been admitted in the hospital on bed rest. My cervix ephased .9 and I'm dilated 2 centimeters. I've been given a fetal lung development shot to help my baby's lungs develop faster. Has anyone been through this too? I'm nervous because I'm high risk for preterm labor. Any advice?
Avatar m tn The amniotic fluid is essential for the development of muscles, limbs, lungs, and the digestive system. In the second trimester, the baby begins to breathe and swallow the fluid to help their lungs grow and mature. The amniotic fluid also helps the baby develop muscles and limbs by providing plenty of room to move around.
Avatar f tn Your Baby is still in the early stages of fetal development, & his or her bones/muscles are not strong enough to be noticeable quite yet. I thought maybe i had felt some around this time to but, turns out it was my own heart beating in my belly due to extra blood flow. I hate to sound discouraging :( You will however feel them between 18-20 weeks if you are a first time mom so, you really don't have to wait much longer!! The feeling is unmistakable :) hope this helps, goodluck!
Avatar m tn Puberty occurs in two separate stages, genital (penis and testicle) development and pubic hair development. We number each of these stages 1-5, 1 being child and 5 being adult. That means 2-3-4 are the stages of puberty. Depending on your development, a number is assigned to genital development (G) and a number is assigned to pubic hair development (P). For example, if you have just started growing hair you might be stage P2. It's possible to be P2 and still be G1.
Avatar f tn m 6 weeks pregnant at the moment and i thought everything was going find until i got a call from my hospital telling me they needed to schedule me for an earlier appointment because when reviewing my ultrasounds they saw a problem with the fetus development. does anyone have any idea what this can mean? I would really appreciate it if you can help.
659850 tn?1314743463 sweetangel, I adore you! LOL! You always make me laugh aloud. Definitely not a stupid question either!
Avatar f tn At 28 weeks I had an ultrasound because I was having pressure and cramps in the previous weeks and I was told my cervix has shortened to 2.6 I think that's about 50-60 % effaced ??I was put on pills to help slow things down and have weekly Dr appointments at 29 weeks my cervix changed again to 70% effaced and 1 cm dilated I was placed on bed rest and given a shot to help baby's lungs develop faster.
Avatar f tn I posted recently about my Dr pushing a c-section. I've since been given more information about the situation and have come to terms with the operation as it will be safest for my babies. Baby a has iugr, but is monitored twice a week. So now I'm 35+1 with my identical twin girls. Today my c-section was scheduled for April 2nd, when I will be 37+3.
Avatar f tn How can they tell if lungs are mature enough through amniotic fluid ??? 37 weeks is proven to be safe and full term for deliveries. I am just stumped he's wanting to wait till 39 weeks now. I told him he's crazy due to my condition ( I have severe ITP which is low platelets and I go for IVIG on a weekly basis ) and if I go in to labor I will not make it to hospital in time and because of the way they cut inside I cannot have normal delivery because my uterus will rupture.
422823 tn?1229736847 I recieved two steroid shots at 33 weeks, the shots were given 24 hours apart. The doctors were afraid that I would deliver early- I have severe irritable uterus and have contracted every 5 or so minutes for about 12 weeks now. I am home on bed rest at the moment, and the doctor has said that she will do my c-section at 37 weeks just to give me some peace, but not without doing an amnio first. I am wondering if anyone knows the likelyhood that the baby's lungs will show up as mature.
Avatar f tn The baby only measured 1cm which from my research isnt as big as most are this far long however Im not panicking about that as Ive been told all fetal development is different. Ive also taken some comfort in how nauseated ive been which to me is a good sign, but not so fun! So as of now I am relaxed and excited!!
