Avatar f tn It came back showing mild cerebral atrophy and a mild prominence of the frontal cortical cerebral sulci bilaterally. I have a really bad memory and I am always forgetting things... I also have severe headaches all the time. I even wake up with them... what do you think?
Avatar m tn A cortical area is part of the cerebral cortex, which is a neural tissue sheet outermost to the cerebrum of the brain. The cerebral cortex plays a vital role in perceptual awareness, language, memory, attention, thought, etc.. See PM for some info I found about the right hemisphere.
695915 tn?1228665952 It is generally believed to act as a relay between a variety of subcortical areas and the cerebral cortex. In particular, every sensory system (with the exception of the olfactory system) includes a thalamic nucleus that receives sensory signals and sends them to the associated primary cortical area.
Avatar m tn It seems that every year that has gone by, this virus has been silently chipping away at the health and well being of my entire body and mind, and in addition to the health of my liver. frijole: I agree. All the more reason to treat and to treat early before the virus ravages the body and mind.
Avatar n tn Hello, Recently my dear uncle (age about 64 years) got an epilepsy attack. We have done the tests suggested by Dr. In the MRI Report following in mentioned: "Diffuse Cerebral Atrophy with Focal Gliosis at left temporal Cortex (Old ischemic insult)" Want to know what exactly this suggest, looking for an Thanks a lot!

Avatar f tn The anterior cerebral artery starts at the optic chiasm (at the bottom of the brain where optic nerve crosses) and extends to the medial surface of cerebral cortex. Its first part arising from internal carotid artery is A1 segment is about 14mm long. Next is the A2 segment. If the headaches are linked to the aneurysm, then only it will be operated upon. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care!
Avatar f tn hi,cortical dysplasia is a congenital(since birth) abnormality where the neurons(nerve cells) in an area of the brain failed to migrate in the proper formation during pregnancy. This causes the signals sent through the neurons in these areas to misfire, which sends an incorrect signal. It is commonly found near the cerebral cortex and is associated with seizures and may be associated with some level of developmental delay(s). Surgical treatment is being propogated presently.
1431138 tn?1294566894 They actually start to develop the last few weeks of the first trimester. I think 14 weeks is the earliest you may be able to see the sex?
Avatar n tn Dr drew blood to check my hcg levels because he believes im very early in the pregnancy. But calculating the date od conception and start of my laat period, it was about a month ago. What stage/ how many weeks into the pregnancy does heart/brain/organs starr form?
Avatar m tn All forms of focal cortical dysplasia lead to disorganization of the normal structure of the cerebral cortex. Focal cortical dysplasia associated with enlarged cells is known as FCDIIB. The enlarged cells are called balloon cells for their large elliptical shape, displaced nucleus, and lack of dendrites or axons. The developmental origin of balloon cells is unknown although they are believed to be derived from neuronal or glial progenitor cells.
Avatar n tn I would see a Doctor because our brain (cerebral cortex) controls our body during sleep so we don't psychically act out our dreams but sometimes something interferes with the paralysis and that's when people begin to psychically act out their dreams.
Avatar f tn Heart defects Changes in the shape of the face Poor growth before and after birth Poor muscle tone and problems with movement and balance Problems with thinking and speech Behavior and attention problems Learning problems These medical problems are lifelong and can range from mild to severe. Other complications seen in the infant may include: Cerebral palsy Premature delivery Miscarriage or stillbirth But how much is too much?
Avatar n tn The brain contains pockets or spaces called ventricles with a spongy layer of cells and blood vessels called the choroid plexus. This is in the middle of the fetal brain. The choroid plexus has the important function of producing a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid. The fluid produced by the cells of the choroid plexus fills the ventricles and then flows around the brain and the spinal cord to provide a cushion of fluid around these structures.
Avatar m tn You might have had a slightly low blood pressure and combined with the bending had some decrease blood flow to the cerebral cortex. I would not be concerned unless it recurs. Dr. O.
Avatar f tn Her CAT scan report stated that there is hypodense subdural collection noted at left fronto-parietal convexities, approx HU value 12-15.But the underlying cerebral cortex shows no evidence of mass effect. A triangular hypo- attenuating area noted at right centrum semiovale. I am worried that will she be ok after medication for prolonged time or we have to go for surgery. She is under mediation now. Is this condition deadly?
635835 tn?1272539383 These are also called gray matter but they are separate from the cerebral cortex and are called nuclei. The two areas of gray matter are connected together in many ways. The connections between these areas allow us to speak and think. Nerve cells talk to each other using electrical and chemical signals. These signals must be sent very fast. In order for this to occur, cells must be connected by "wires." These wires are like long threads that extend from the nerve cell body.
Avatar f tn There is ZERO scientific proof that THC is harmful to a developing fetus...but CAN and WILL affect the frontal cortex of the brain in the Third trimester. And if you have high BP, MJ can cause Preeclampsia. Use as little as possible and ween down. It took me some time as well, I partake due to anxiety and smoked till about 23 weeks. FYI, took us 8yrs to make our baby and I of all people wouldn't do ANYTHING to harm this pregnancy or growing child.
Avatar f tn I personally think it's selfish and foolish to drink during pregnancy. Your putting your baby's health at risk and fetal development during the first trimester is crucial. Any alcohol use during pregnancy can result in a child being born with FASD. To me it's not worth the risks.
Avatar m tn It is hard to say. The main problem is the lack of development of the tracts in the brain from the eye to the visual cortex. I would not recommend surgery if the eyes are straight with glasses. I have no experience with revital vision. Some say it works for ambyopia. However, I doubt it would be a significant improvement. Dr. O.
Avatar f tn The most critical period of its development is between three and seven weeks after fertilization, when a simple heart tube assumes the shape of a four-chambered heart. In fact, the heart actually begins beating by the 22nd day of life. When you are 5 weeks pregnant, your baby's heart is made up of two tiny channels called heart tubes and they're already hard at work, beating to their own drummer (it will be weeks before those beats become coordinated).
Avatar n tn There is a possibility of an ischemic injury to the cerebral cortex during the surgery. Word finding difficulty is a cortical dysfunction. A PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scan can tell you if the area for language is affected. It will help if you could discuss this with your Neurologist.
Avatar m tn In 1892, Czechoslovakian neurologist Arnold Pick first documented a type of dementia in which degeneration of cells occurs in the cerebral cortex (the outer layer of the brain) where cognitive and behavioral functions are controlled. Unlike Alzheimer's, Pick's disease is very often diagnosed in patients who are not yet 65. Studies have shown that certain gene mutations prompt loss of a protein called progranulin (PGRN). When this protein remains low, cerebral cortex cell death occurs.
382218 tn?1341181487 We did not find supporting evidence that cerebral venous congestion plays a significant role in the development of MS. Further studies are needed to clarify the difference between MS patients and healthy subjects in blood volume flow regulation," concluded Dr. Doepp. A second study by researchers at Umeå University in Sweden also concluded that CCSVI does not contribute to the development of MS. The Swedish research team led by Peter Sundström, M.D., Ph.D.
