Fetal development of the brain

Common Questions and Answers about Fetal development of the brain

fetal-development

Avatar n tn The brain contains pockets or spaces called ventricles with a spongy layer of cells and blood vessels called the choroid plexus. This is in the middle of the fetal brain. The choroid plexus has the important function of producing a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid. The fluid produced by the cells of the choroid plexus fills the ventricles and then flows around the brain and the spinal cord to provide a cushion of fluid around these structures.
Avatar n tn Dr drew blood to check my hcg levels because he believes im very early in the pregnancy. But calculating the date od conception and start of my laat period, it was about a month ago. What stage/ how many weeks into the pregnancy does heart/brain/organs starr form?
Avatar m tn The human brain is not fully myelinated (the insulation that surrounds part of the neurons) until years after birth. As the brain is myelinated (which begins around the 5th fetal month of life), the appearance will change on MRI imaging. Myelination begins in the back and proceeds to the front of the brain. It is difficult to say if your child will “catch up” (since there are MANY etiologies or myelin abnormalities), but it is reassuring that there is no regression or lack of progress.
Avatar m tn There is no safe amount of alcohol you can drink. Fetal brain development damage can occur with just one drink.
Avatar f tn Sorry to hear this. I had never heard of this and did some research. This is what I found. Hope it helps and prayers for you && the little one :) CPCs can form within this structure and come from fluid trapped within this spongy layer of cells, much like a soap bubble or a blister. CPCs are often called "soft signs" or fetal ultrasound "markers" because some studies have found a weak association between CPCs and fetal chromosome abnormalities.
Avatar f tn I agree with Darkestlight. There are a lot of different options. One possibility is that these are "Choroid plexus cysts" which can be part of normal fetal brain development and often disappear spontaneously before 32 weeks gestation. Other types of cysts can be markers for other conditions. Does your daughter have a follow-up with a specialist?
Avatar f tn The most critical period of its development is between three and seven weeks after fertilization, when a simple heart tube assumes the shape of a four-chambered heart. In fact, the heart actually begins beating by the 22nd day of life. When you are 5 weeks pregnant, your baby's heart is made up of two tiny channels called heart tubes and they're already hard at work, beating to their own drummer (it will be weeks before those beats become coordinated).
1431138 tn?1294566894 They actually start to develop the last few weeks of the first trimester. I think 14 weeks is the earliest you may be able to see the sex?
Avatar f tn 1. Apples: the fiber helps with constipation. plus, research shows that eating them during pregnancy might reduce your baby's risk of asthma. 2. avocados: they're full of folic acid (critical to fetal brain and nervous-system development) and vitamin B6 (which might help ease morning sickness). 3. Eggs: they deliver one of the best sourxes of protein, a key building block of baby's cells. 4.

Avatar f tn I personally think it's selfish and foolish to drink during pregnancy. Your putting your baby's health at risk and fetal development during the first trimester is crucial. Any alcohol use during pregnancy can result in a child being born with FASD. To me it's not worth the risks.
Avatar n tn Hi. My 5 year old daughter had an MRI done and they found that she had 2 brain cysts. Her doctor sent her to a neurosurgeon who we saw today. He said that we should just watch and wait. I've done a lot of reaseaching on cysts and I asked him what type of cysts she had. He told me that you can not determine the type of cyst unless it is taken out. I've heard of a lot of people who know what type of cyst they have.
Avatar f tn No its not especially in the first trimester. Rapid development of babies major organs, brain and spinal cord happen in the first trimester. I hear some women have a small glass while pregnant personally I wouldnt but if you were to you should wait at least until the middle of the second trimester. Ask your doctor. It is currently not recommended that any alcohol be taken in while pregnant since FAS (fetal alcohol syndrome) is not completely understood on when and how it all happens.
Avatar f tn m 6 weeks pregnant at the moment and i thought everything was going find until i got a call from my hospital telling me they needed to schedule me for an earlier appointment because when reviewing my ultrasounds they saw a problem with the fetus development. does anyone have any idea what this can mean? I would really appreciate it if you can help.
Avatar f tn Soda pop beverages contain some of the most harmful synthetic sweeteners in existence. Many brands of soda pop contain the artificial sweeteners aspartame and saccharin, both of which are cancer causing. Aspartame is a known neurotoxin. A neurotoxin is a toxin to the brain and impairs brain health and function and adversely affects fetal brain development in unborn babies. High fructose corn syrup is another dangerous sugar that many soda pop brands contain.
1133565 tn?1261315212 i went for my first scan 2 days ago where i found out i was 6 weeks and 4 days. the docter never told me the rate of the heartbeat but did show me on the screen. 'my baby' measured 8mm at this stage is that normal? because ev everyone im speaking to says it is far too big and should be around 5mm.
Avatar f tn and with how much issues I have been having with my cervix I will most likely go into labor that week. I pray I make it to at least 37 weeks as I am concerned about his fetal brain and lung development, but I know that everything will happen in Gods timing.
1037594 tn?1258562179 Have any of you read the information regarding our life clock being sped up by the Hippocampus of the brain and how the Hippocampus becomes an assasign of sorts causing heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and others that I cannot recall at this time. Reading several articles that basically stated the same thing made me think about those poor children that age prematurely and if there was some sort of connection between the two on basic level.
Avatar m tn They do not have any long term studies to show the effects on fetal development. My current dr says the same thing, when pg stay clear of it as possible.
Avatar f tn Someone I know was leaarning fetal development in med school as I was going through my first trimester and I was told that was the most critical point in brain development. So my vote is no.
Avatar n tn Usually the 5th week you will see the gestational sac but maybe no fetal pole. By week 6-7 you should see the fetal pole and if you're lucky a heartbeat. By week 8 you should get a heartbeat. So if you are only 5 weeks it sounds like your development is very good seeing both a fetal pole and hb. Did he mention what the heartrate was?? I am not sure what the "likely" fetal pole means because if there is a heartbeat then there is definitely a fetal pole there!!
Avatar f tn Congrats on your transfer! Everyone is different. I had a 5 day fresh transfer of just 1. I was convinced it didn't work based on cramps and feeling like AF was coming, but instead I got my BFP and my daughter is just about 12 weeks old now. Truth is, with all of the medications and hormones we take as IVF patients, it's really impossible to discern possible pregnancy symptoms from the effects of the medications.
Avatar n tn These usually occur in the ventricles (the area of the brain that contains fluid called cerebrospinal fluid which cushions the brain). These types of cysts usually occur on both sides of the brain. They resolve in the vast majority of fetuses by 26 weeks of gestation. In the vast majority, these are of no significant but in some cases, they may be an indicator of trisomy 18 or trisomy 21 (Edwards and Downs Syndrome).
