Avatar f tn The fetal heart undergoes a considerable amount of growth very early in pregnancy. The most critical period of its development is between three and seven weeks after fertilization, when a simple heart tube assumes the shape of a four-chambered heart. In fact, the heart actually begins beating by the 22nd day of life.
Avatar n tn "Congratulations! A live fetus!" The zygote migrates from tube into the fundal uterus with implantation on day 22–25. The first ultrasound sign of pregnancy is a gestational sac (chorionic sac-5th week) that appears as a double ring that is comprised of the certain membranes and confirm that it is implanted just below the surface of endometrium. Also the uternie orientation and consistency are also evaluated to see the sustenance of pregnancy.

The exact cause is really unknown although genetics and environmental causes could play a role and does often run in families. So, when your partner is pregnant, talk to their obstetrician so that they are aware. Prenatal care will be important as it always is but especially in this circumstance.

A) Most people will test accurately for HIV after 6 weeks have passed since their last risk. In very rare cases where a person has a highly compromised immune system, such as those in which a person has recently undergone chemotherapy or an organ transplant, it may take 3-6 months for their body to develop enough antibodies to test positive.
935426 tn?1244779980 Hello, I am wondering if anyone has heard of a fetal heart "pointing in the wrong direction." Well, those are the words our OB/GYN used. He said that all aspects of the heart seem to be fine -- though it appeared to be that the heart was pointing to the right . . . I think that's what he said. He said he "just wanted to be sure" and has set an appointment up for us with another physician to get a second opinion. I am quite perplexed by this.

Avatar n tn The brain contains pockets or spaces called ventricles with a spongy layer of cells and blood vessels called the choroid plexus. This is in the middle of the fetal brain. The choroid plexus has the important function of producing a fluid called cerebrospinal fluid. The fluid produced by the cells of the choroid plexus fills the ventricles and then flows around the brain and the spinal cord to provide a cushion of fluid around these structures.

Avatar f tn I personally think it's selfish and foolish to drink during pregnancy. Your putting your baby's health at risk and fetal development during the first trimester is crucial. Any alcohol use during pregnancy can result in a child being born with FASD. To me it's not worth the risks.
1137999 tn?1263531019 Perhaps you're referring to a slow death by disease. I'm not sure there's a specific point where you can say a person is "dying." If a person has an incurable disease and there's no chance for improvement, then I'd guess you could say the person is dying. S/he may die in a day or in 6 months. It's not a matter of time, it's a matter of whether the body can heal and recover vs. continuing failure of organs.
Avatar f tn m 6 weeks pregnant at the moment and i thought everything was going find until i got a call from my hospital telling me they needed to schedule me for an earlier appointment because when reviewing my ultrasounds they saw a problem with the fetus development. does anyone have any idea what this can mean? I would really appreciate it if you can help.
Avatar n tn Went to ER last night for cramping, stomach pains and back pain.. I thought for sure that I was miscarrying but it turned out that I had a UTI. They put me on antibiotics and sent me home. My hcg level on monday was 5000 and when they took it at the hospital it was 21000. I thought it should have been higher.. Then also did a transvaginal ultra sound and saw a sac that measured 5 weeks and 5 days and the yolk sac was 1mm..
Avatar m tn There is a thread going on the forum now about the projected cost of Telaprevir in Europe, and how that will affect availability. Its no that led to a discussion of healthcare systems, with comparisons of the US system and various socialized medicine systems in place overseas. Some posts are pretty passionate and I wonder if the thread will go away if it gets too political. I'm interested in what people think about how we can pay for PIs.
467126 tn?1283144858 Pregnancy and tanning is always a touchy subject. Some salon owners don’t allow it, while others think it’s completely fine—in fact, many female salon owners say they tanned throughout their own pregnancies. What I hadn’t heard before was a question regarding the safety of sunless tanning while pregnant.
Avatar m tn They do not have any long term studies to show the effects on fetal development. My current dr says the same thing, when pg stay clear of it as possible.
Avatar m tn a drug or other substance capable of interfering with the development of a fetus, causing birth defects.
Avatar f tn Hi! Yes, that is too early to see a fetal pole or cardiac activity. In ten days, you should see a nice change with development of a little "grain of rice" with a tiny flickering heart beat. I wish you the best!
Avatar m tn The test which is done after 6 weeks for most of people is conclusive and definitive as Massachusetts Center . Maybe a lot of you ask what about the other if the test for most people I have just found the answer on this site http://www.aac.org/site/PageServer?pagename=basics_home they said: Why do some sources advise waiting longer than 6 weeks for HIV testing? Avatar f tn The most common cause of a fetal heart rate irregularity is premature atrial contractions (PACs) that arise from the baby's upper heart chamber and are usually benign. You should avoid caffeine and stimulants and keep well hydrated. If they persist, your doctor will likely refer you to a pediatric cardiologist for a fetal echocardiogram to document the arrhythmia. In most cases, these self resolve.
Avatar n tn If you break embryonic and fetal development into thirds then when you are in your 28th week the baby begins its final third of development. (Gestation is 266 days or 38 weeks of development). So either way you look at it you are in your 3rd trimester!
