The Fenofibrate can cause bloating indigestion, stomach pain, and increased liver enzymes or liver problems in addition to other side effects. The Zetia can cause some of these too. Have they tested your liver enzymes yet? If so were they normal? There are other drugs for lowering cholesterol and triglycerides that work as well. You can ask him to have you try Lipitor (generic) and there is now a generic Niaspan. I know because my husband is on it.

You can google the warnings and side effects of that one. I also take Tricor for my hyperlipidemia. But that is a fenofibrate, not a statin. Have you ever tried the grandfather of statins, Lipitor? Talk to your doctor and get the straight answers.

Make a list of all your meds, your dose, and time of day/eve taken. Include all supplements and vitamins and any OTC meds like aspirin. Take this list to your pharmacist and ask for a "consultation". Ask about drug interactions and contraindications. If you want at home reading documentation, ask for pharmaceuticals.

I am on Gabapentin for the neuropathy, Prilosec for reflux and Fenofibrate for high cholesterol. If I stop taking one of these to see if it is causing the side effects, how long before I would notice an improvement?
I have noticed since I began taking fenofibrate that I experience cloudy urine after I eat certain foods. It only happens the first time I uninate after eating these foods and becomes clear thereafter. It seems that it is triggered with creamy and greasy foods. Is there cause for concern?

Lipitor in some women have produced breast pains or enlargement and even the manufacturers cannot explain that one. Still, I suppose it's cheaper than plastic surgery. Some statins cause abdominal pains in some people, or nausea or serious muscle cramps and even damage.
Fenofibrate in combination with a Statin drug can cause severe Rhabdomyolysis. I know because I have gone through it. My muscle pain got so severe that I couldn't even move my arms and I wound up in the ER with kidney (also a muscle) pain so severe, I was climbing the walls.
Thank you for your input. I should say the clinic did give me the simvastatin first but then switched to Lipitor. They themselved said it was better. I've heard of Lipitor going generic in a few years - maybe that influenced their decision to switch patients now.
I just can't understand how they can override the cardiologist without any chance of appeal. I will speak to him again and see if he thinks he should intervene.
You don’t mention dose and you make no mention of any side effects. Both drugs in Rosvin F (statin and fibrate) are generally well tolerated. Neither are drugs one takes “for a month.” Rather, they are lifetime drugs that will keep you in tip-top CV health with more benefit correlating with duration of treatment. If you discontinue treatment, all your lipid levels will return to where they were (unless you have made HUGE lifestyle changes).

Rosvin F is two drugs in one. The tablet is a combination of Rosuvastatin and Fenofibrate. As such, it lowers BOTH LDL or and triglycerides (which will bring down your total cholesterol). Exercise or any physical activity is supposed to help with HDL. Also factoring into the ratio.
Yes, Tricor is great for TGLs. It is a fenofibrate, is very effective, has few side effects and safe with other drugs like statns. You can also avoid empty carbs like sugars, pasta and bread. Also, don't drink as that will increase TGLs. He also needs to get his LDL down and HDL up. These numbers could well be drivien by his thyroid as it controls one's metabolism which controls your lipids.
Did you try the Niacin with aspirin to reduce side effects taken at bedtime? Niacin can do wonders on the LDL especially when there may be a corkscrew like protein attached to it and no amount of statin, diet or lifestyle change will impact the LDL but Niacin will. It is referred to as LPa and can be done in some advanced lipid testing. That alone may change and further define what you need to be on.

Your numbers are high, but you need to look at the breakdown. First off, your TGL's should be under 150. Not hard, just cut out the empty carbs like breads, sugars, pastas etc. Also, drinking will elevate your TGL's so don't over do it. You could start on a Fenofibrate like Tricor to lower your TGL's it works well. A statin will not really do that much.
Tricor is a Fenofibrate which helps control cholesterol and TGLS by blocking their abosorbtion into your system through your intestinal tract. There is an extremely and I mean EXTREMELY small chance that Tricor can cause Diabetes, but it is extremely rare. How high was you fasting blood sugar level? What does your doctor say?
