Femara and hot flashes

Common Questions and Answers about Femara and hot flashes

femara

Avatar n tn Many women suffer from hot flashes caused by these medications but can find some relief when they avoid hot and spicy foods, caffeinated drinks, alcohol and smoking and having lots of fans in the house...LOL. I hope that your wife will soon consult with her Oncologist and see what can be done to relieve her discomfort. All the best to both of you...
1530658 tn?1299766324 Had hot flashes and mood swings. It works by making your body think u are starting menopause. Then your ovaries go crazy making follicles to keep you fertile/ young as long as possible to fight it off. Good luck.
Avatar n tn Side effects that are comparable between Femara and tamoxifen include night sweats, weight gain, nausea and tiredness. Side effects seen more often with tamoxifen versus Femara were hot flashes and vaginal bleeding. The benefits of FEMARA in clinical trials are based on 24 months of treatment. Further follow-up is needed to determine long-term results.(http://www.femara.com/content/femara-what-is.jsp) Take care and regards.
586512 tn?1218512079 Doc said it would help with the lining of my uterus. We tried 3 cycles of clomid and IUIs. No success. Clomid gave me hot flashes and may have made my cervical mucus hostile. This cycle, I took femara and had IUIs (in 2ww). I didn't have hot flashes, but my progesterone level went down slightly when tested on CD 19, compared to when I was on clomid. On clomid my progesterone was about 18 for 3 cycles, on femara my progesterone was 15.
958842 tn?1266512599 I never got hot flashes with Clomid, but I was on the lowest dosage of 50mg. Now this cycle I did the highest dosage of Femara - and boy-oh-boy did I get hot flashes!! It's funny you post this, because I was just thinking about it. I'm 9DPO and I swear I was just getting hot flashes while i was out running errands. And I thought how odd to get hot flashes in the TWW.
Avatar n tn Side effects seen more often with tamoxifen versus Femara were hot flashes and vaginal bleeding. Joint pain was experienced more often with Femara versus tamoxifen. ref: http://www.femara.com/home.jsp?m=2 Additional side effects for both Femara and tamoxifen are heart attack, thromboembolic events, endometrial cancer and second malignancies. bOTH THE DRUGS CAN CAUSE GAIN IN WEIGHT.
Avatar f tn I haven't experienced headaches while taking shots, but I agree about the hot flashes! Have you experienced weight gain with the shots? I gain about 3-5 lbs with each round of shots. Luckily it has already started to drop from being off of it for two months. Do you get cycts on your ovaries when you go back after you start your cycle?
1434731 tn?1382722384 Hot flashes were the killer for me... day and night.
Avatar f tn Hey girl, just spotted your post up here. Yeah, I had really bad hot flashes from the clomid so they put me on femara (primarily used to treat breast cancer, apparantly it either blocks estrogen or tricks your body into thinking it doesn't have enough and thus produces more or something to this effect). For the first IUI with the clomid I had two follicles emerge and then they gave me a trigger shot of Ovidrel.
Avatar f tn I just finished taking Clomid for three months and no pregancy. I had a lap and am going to start taking Femara to try and concieve. Hopefully this works. I am just wondering if anyone else has taken Femara and what it was like ie side effects/pregnancy?! Thanks.
Avatar f tn The only side effect that I had was having hot flashes a couple of times. Nothing too terribley bad. Other than that nothing else. It really stimulated my ovaries.
Avatar f tn I too suffer from migraines for the last 19yrs I also take femara and my experience is yes you most likely will get a headache dull botherson but nothing like a full blown migraine trust me when I say I know your pain first hand.
992128 tn?1364371742 I to have pcos and the side effects that I remember were the breast tenderness and a few hot flashes but I will do it all again when its time for us to ttc again! Good luck and lots of baby dust!
Avatar n tn hi i finished 5 yrs on tamoxifen with minimal side effects. i did gain about 8 lbs and had hot flashes and insomnia. thats it. i took a 5 week break where my "thermostat" started to cool down and i slept better. did not lose any weight and ive alway been thin. i am now on femara. i was wondering if you are going on it. im on femara for about 2 1/2 months and not that happy on it. i was wondering if your dr. prescribed it for you and if not why.
374593 tn?1257879950 It took us a total of 2 and 1/2 years to concieve our son. I am now on Femara (2 months) and have had good luck ovulation wise. I still have NO symptoms of endo (after having my son and the m/c), so we did a saline infused sonagram and it showed nothing but a healthy uterus! RE wants to do another lap if not pg in 4 months because he think it may do the trick. He is hoping I can skip that by continuing IUI. Here's hoping! I wish you all the best and let me know what you decide!

Avatar f tn I had no side effects from femara, whereas with clomid the side effects were terrible (moody, hot flashes, sore boobs, etc) femara was wonderful compared to clomid! my first cycle on femara I did not ovulate, but on my second round of femara i used hcg injection and got pregnant that way. good luck!!
Avatar n tn Anyway, I liked Femara much better than Clomid. Clomid gave me terrible mood swings and hot flashes. The only thing I noticed with the Femara was that I had mid-cycle headches and I read somewhere that is one symptom that is typically stronger with Femara vs Clomid. Like bny said, Femara doesn't thin your lining and it also doesn't have the risk of OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation) like Clomid does.
257175 tn?1204161973 Just to follow up with what everyone else is saying, Femara (Letrozole) seems to be the next thing to try if you don't respond well to Clomid. I was on Clomid for 4 cycles and am now on my 2nd with Femara. I've felt a lot better on the Femara and gotten strong positive OPK's, so it seems to be working well. Everyone responds to meds differently, but this might be worth a try next time. Here's a link to a really good article I found online about it.
725941 tn?1297882209 Another name for it is Femara and like Heather said, it is similar to clomid in that it "tricks" your body into producing more estrogen and should therefore help you ovulate. I also took it for 4 cycles and liked it much better than Clomid, no hot flashes or crazy mood swings. Typically you'll take 5 mg on cd3 through cd7. I've seen it work for a lot of people. It did help me O every cycle, but we just didn't get pregnant for some other reason I guess.
320424 tn?1205500555 If you had problems with CM while on Clomid, then it's probably a good idea to try the Femara instead. I've tried both (4 cycles on each) and I have to say that I did like the Femara better. With Clomid I had horrible hot flashes and was a little moody at times, but didn't have that with the Femara. The only thing with the Femara was that I got horrible headaches mid-way through my cycles and I did read somewhere that is the one side effect that is usually worse with Femara.
Avatar f tn I am thinking of starting progesterone - it helps the bones, stops the hot flashes and night sweats, and supposedly helps prevent breast cancer. What was your dexa score?
772910 tn?1249563035 Clomid made me cry, hot flash and get a poofy stomach. It tricks your body into thinking you are menopausal. Hang in there.
Avatar m tn ve been going through menopause for about 15 years, still get hot flashes....will the anti-estrogen therapy get rid of them, or make them worse?
Avatar f tn For me, the severe joint, leg and hip pain I had (which I also had on tamoxifen and that was one of the side effects they could not control along with hair on fire hot flashes) was more than I could bear. I am off all hormone blocking/AI meds and have been off of them for several months. As time passes the pain seems to lessen and I'm feeling more and more like my old self. I know I am taking a risk but this was a quality of life issue for me and it's my decision with no regrets.
Avatar f tn And I have to say, my worst side effect has been a few hot flashes. Hubby says that the birth control pill made me more moody than Femara :-) As for the Ovidrel shot, I took Femara from day 3-8 and went back for an u/s on day 10. Follicles were still too small so back again on day 12. This time they were good size so hubby gave me the shot (belly hurts less than leg!) that night and then we did IUI on day14. I can't believe it hasn't even been a week yet. The 2 ww is the WORST!
Avatar f tn ll have no problem staying on this drug. Tamoxifen I thought was easy except for weight gain and hot flashes. I heard awful side effects for Femara but Im trying not to believe everything I read as everyone is an individual so side effects vary. Hope you are doing better. Take Care.
