Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Internal Medicine, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA. ***@**** BACKGROUND/AIMS: Current therapies for patients with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) do not achieve sustained viral clearance in most patients, and are associated with severe toxic effects. Our aim was to investigate the efficacy and safety of etanercept as adjuvant to interferon and ribavirin in treatment-naive patients with HCV.
Avatar n tn Can a perispinal etanercept injection help heal severe pain linked to the piriformous muscle?
Avatar m tn Can anyone tell me if peri spinal etanercept works ? I have had four back surgeries since 2000. The last two were for decompression of the L-4, L-5 and S-1 nerve roots. My third surgery was performed in January 2011 and the last one in July 2012. I am still having pain around my right hip, left calf , left ankle and left foot. MRI and CT Myloegram do not show anything. Help !
Avatar m tn The standard therapy options include intravenous immunoglobulin and plasmapharesis, corticosteroids, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, etanercept, mycophenolate mofetil, interferon alpha 2a and tacrolimus. Current ones are interferon beta 1a, rituximab, and high dose cyclophosphamide. Your neurologist needs to apprise you of the long-term side effects since prolonged therapy are required. Botox shots are not known to be used in therapy.
1440074 tn?1283996071 starting on Sunday, I have been having very severe anal spasms along with a ton of pain, and some itching. It is very hard to sleep at night due to the pain. I have not been constipated, so I don't think it would be hemmorroids. It does not hurt to go to the bathroom either. The pain is pretty constant with spasms very often, and when I have a spasm the pain is so intense that it causes my entire body to tremble. I would describe the pain as almost like a bite near my butthole.
Avatar f tn My daughter is in her 50's and has had Crohn's most of her life. Surgeries resulted in her losing feet of intestines. My question is this...It's possible to replace many parts in the human body, hearts, liver, lungs, skin etc...so why can't the intestine be replaced?
Avatar f tn Ok, I am 29 years old, and have always had problems with my bowels. But, the last year or so, things have gotten really bad. I will go for 1-2 weeks being coonstipated, then have bloody diarrhea for 2-3 days, then go back to being constipated. I had a colonoscopy the 1st of this month, and was supposed to go back in and get my hemerroids banded on the 7th.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the Crohn's Community Forum. I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs, dx when I was 24 yrs old. Cortisone IS used to treat Crohn's, but now only for short periods, say 3-4 months, because of the side effects of long term use. If the Crohn's is in the terminal ileum area and/or first part of the colon, a newer steroid, Entocort can be used, which does not have the debilitating, and embarrassing, side effects that prednisolone and prednisone do.
Avatar f tn I have Crohn's Disease and I have been having alot of lower back pain. I went to the doctor and had a UTI, so they gave me antibiotics. I have had 3 different antibioitcs and am still hurting in my back. I went back and did another urin screening and everything was perfect. I had them to do a cbc and it was normal also, but I'm still having the back pain. They are referring me back to my crohn's doctor and setting up a CT Scan to check everything out.
Avatar n tn I have Crohn's Disease for over 20 years now. Recently, I found out I have many Gall Stones and is causing a lots of pain. My general doctor suggest the removal of the Gallbladder but I'm concern about without it will make my Crohn's worse. Wouldn't just removing the stones better then without Gallbladder?
Avatar n tn My 18 year old daughter has been recentely diagnosed with Crohn's. Since her diagnosis, she's had two episodes of severe vomiting in a month. She has rarely vomited in her lifetime. Both times she had large servings of dairy- mozzarella sticks and cottage cheese. She's loved both in the past and had no issues. Could there be a link between Crohn's, vomiting and dairy or just a strange coinsidence?
Avatar f tn For the past 3 years, I have been getting recurrent canker sores. They would apprear twice a month. They disappeared only when I was in my secong and third trimester of pregnancy. I did various tests and a colonoscopy to rule out Crohn's disease. I also did the ASCA and ANCA blood tests. My colonsocopy was normal. ANCA was negative but ASCA was positive. I dont have the classic symptoms of Crohn's (diarrhea). is a positive ASCA an indicator of Crohn's?
Avatar f tn I believe you are talking about Crohn's disease. I got this from Wikipedia: Crohn's disease is an illness that causes the intestines, or other parts of the digestive tract (the parts of the body food goes through), to become swollen, and sometimes develop ulcers (holes). People with Crohn's disease often have pain in the gut, diarrhea, vomiting, and weight loss. Crohn's can also cause skin rashes, arthritis, and swollen eyes.
Avatar n tn Nope, inflammation anywhere in the small intestine can cause nausea, no appetite and weight loss. The large bowel is where most of the "water" is extracted from the stool as it passes thru. Stool enters the colon (large bowel) as a "slime" called chyme. The last 3 feet of the small intestine, referred to as the terminal ileum, is where most of the bile from the gall bladder used to digest food thru the small intestine is removed.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I've had blood in my stool for 15 years now and used to have abdominal cramping. I also seem to have some sores in my nose and sinuses. I have GERD and had a colonoscopy which showed rectal polyps, neurofibroma. My flex sig biopsies were negative- so both tests neg for Crohn's/UC. Is there still a chance I could have Crohn's or UC that was missed? When I take prednisone I have a bowel movement soon after and feel a little better.
48668 tn?1201543083 This is the response from the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America on whether there is a connection between Crohn's Disease and Type 1 Diabetes: We don't know of any research that has indicated a connection between diabetes and Crohn's.
Avatar f tn Could I have Crohn's disease without the hallmark symptoms? Can bowel prep for colonoscopy cause mild inflammation and redness? I had a colonoscopy last week and the report says "localized inflammation, mild in severity and characterized by congestion (edema) and erythema in the terminal illeum." I have occasional loose stools, but not true diarrhea and not frequent.
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been taking melatonin supplements for a couple weeks now. The past couple days I had abnormal looking stools, and I started looking around on the internet and found that melatonin can cause abnormal looking stools, and even sometimes trigger symptoms of Crohn's disease. But what I was wondering is this: when it says that it can trigger symptoms of Crohn's disease does it mean it just "mimics" Crohn's disease?
Avatar n tn My husband was diagnosed with Crohn's back in April 08 just a few weeks before he was scheduled for gastric bypass surgery. I've been very leary of the whole diagnosis for three reasons, 1st he weighs over 500lbs and 2nd he had a bout of c-diff at the same time as all the colonoscopies, he's had diarrhea almost daily since he had his gallbladder out in 1996. I suspected it had bile salt diarrhea and wanted the doctor to check before he had his surgery.
483733 tn?1326798446 Hi there. I find that the gastroenterology forum is way too busy. If you post a question it has been pushed to another page within hours and then doesn't get answered. I wondered if it might be best to break off a few separate forums with Crohn's and Colitis being one to start with.
Avatar m tn I am 35 year old man. For the most part, I have had only protected sex. I was recently told by a doctor that I tested postive for Herpes 2 based a blood test (result of 1.8). I also have Crohn's disease and have been on immunosuppressants for the past ten years. I have read in various places that these factors can influence the test results. Is it possible that I have a false positive? What are the odds?
Avatar n tn As the Community Leader, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our Crohn's community forum. Many of the posters do try to help others, and no question is too small, or indeed, large. Sometimes, all we can give is emotional support, but that too, is very valuable. I have had Crohn's for 38 yrs, diagnosed at age 26, and did not "present" typically as I had no abdominal pain, just severe weight loss and diarrhea.
Avatar f tn I'm not a doc- but from what i read on the issue, alcohol doesn't deplete iron, infact it might raise it some- however, if she also has crohn's, alcohol isn't recommended- alcohol is an irritant, and can make flareups of Crohn's disease worse- and it can affect how much nutrients your body can utilize- because people with Crohn's often have malabsorption issues- Crohn's is nothing to mess around with- a person with it should do everything possible to keep it under con
