Estradiol replacement

Common Questions and Answers about Estradiol replacement

Avatar m tn Estradiol is one form of estrogen and is (or at least used to be) considered HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) although some refer to it as ET (estrogen therapy). There is estrogen-only HRT and combined (estrogen plus progestin or progesterone) HRT. Women who have a uterus who take HRT must take progestin or progesterone if they take estrogen in order to protect their uterine lining from the proliferative effects of estrogen.
Avatar f tn 5 totally unbearable. What can I do??? I feel I am too young to not have replacement and yet replacement feels like its hurting my body. I do have hasimoto's thyroid but that has been regulated for 10 years. I take synthroid. Had my estradiol test came back at 17. Doctor said it was low. I can't get it any higher I can't take the side effects. Should I drop hrt all together?
Avatar m tn What do you do about low testosterone (119ng/dl) and high estradiol (69.8pg/ml) in a 73 y.o. moderately obese male with sexual dysfunction.
865758 tn?1285952904 Previous to that my OB/GYN diagnosed me with low estrogen. My estradiol level was 42. When my endo doc ran the TPO antibody test he also checked my testosterone levels and they have come back high. Does the thyroid cause all these other imbalances as well? My endo suggested peri menopause because of the Hashimoto's and I have all the symptoms but afraid that it is just the thyroid messing everything up.
Avatar n tn they require a Dr. referral. I thought about testosterone replacement but with estradiol so high I wonder if I could have an aromatase deficiency and increase my testerone would increase my estradiol. I read about aromatase inhibitors which may be the answer. I should say that I'm in my mid 30s, obviously male, and rather overweight. Could you please tell me how bad or how out of range my estradiol level is?
Avatar n tn My reproductive endo says I am low in estrogen (I am 32) so I am contemplating some sort of hormone replacement therapy (Vivelle-dot and prometrium). My estradiol levels have come back repeatedly on the low end (in the 60's or 40's) but my FSH levels are normal. My last estradiol was taken on day 12 and it was 40 which is low but I don't have regular cycles. Honestly, I don't know if the low estradiol would cause the weight gain...
Avatar n tn Hello, I have had menstrual migraines for over 30 years and as I get closer to menopause, things are getting worse. I had a hysterectomy last July and have been taking.25mg estradiol gel every night and when I first started taking it, it seemed like the headaches were not so bad. Now I am wondering if I should bump it up to .
Avatar f tn My doctor mentioned that while in menopause, it is common to need more thyroid hormone replacement since I have no thyroid to compensate. Since I am taking estradiol and progesterone and seem to be doing much better since it was adjusted three weeks ago, could I possibly need less armour than I did before?
709441 tn?1233340088 I use Vivelle Estradiol... climara is good, too. Newer research indicates that Estradiol (the kind of estrogen we had pumping through us in our 20's) is the only way to go. The book I mentioned a thousand times has been the most helpful to me. "Screaming to be Heard" by Dr. Elizabeth Lee Vliet is an amazing (and huge) book. Don't let it overwhelm you. You have to do the reseach on this stuff or it will get the better of you.
Avatar m tn I stopped taking my Premarin, and upon my request for a safer or natural hormone, she prescribed estradiol .05 once a week patch, just recently (last week) added Prometrium, 200 mg. daily. My health/sanity issues have not changed. I have anxiety, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, insomnia, body aches, memory problems, difficulty concentrating and staying on tasks, no sex drive, the list goes on.
915237 tn?1243173894 My question is what replacement hormones are the best or pros and cons i am currently awaiting my 4 week post op visit but wanted to gather info.
718868 tn?1230730029 only they took it all..I have a lot of good to say about estrogen replacement//Im on the vivelle dot which is a patch that you apply 2 times per week. its increased my happiness, Im not hot flashing and not a basket case of nerves...ask your doc about it..
689860 tn?1238718032 Be sure your doctor monitors your levels monthly including your estradiol (estrogen) levels. When your proper testosterone levels are achieved, continue to monitor your estradiol levels monthly for up to 6 months. If they rise too high, a drug that is normally used for females with breast cancer called Arimidex will take care of the problem. It neutralizes the enzyme that causes testosterone to aromatize into estrogen.
Avatar m tn Remember to get SHBG tested and also estradiol. Clomid can also raise estradiol (estrogen). Both SHBG and estradiol bind to or use up testosterone leaving less of the "total T" available as free T to do work. You can take a drug to lower estradiol. But it is very sensitive and you should not take it unless you need it. And the only way you know if you need it, is to have estradiol tested! If you try Clomid, people should start out with a very low dose and SLOWLY work up.
Avatar f tn i just wonder what could be caiusing the headaches and breast soreness and also i have depression and on meds for it but its seems my mood is worse since starting the estradiol and promitrium....i have called dr and she is trying to help me but i dont think estradiol is for me..
Avatar f tn Hello! My TSH levels have always been around 1, and now they're 3.80 after a year of taking Diane 35! (my ovaries produce too much testosterone and that's why I had been taking it). I've read that estradiol does influence TSH levels. Ok, what's done stays done. I'm not taking Diane anymore, I'm actually going to take an oral contraceptive with only 0,020 estradiol, because 0,035 was a bit too much.
Avatar m tn I am 48 and in menopause. I believe it is complete (or almost) as I have gone almost a year w/o a period and my hormone levels are low. I had an IUD (Mirena) removed a year and 8 months ago. Went several months with no period then had a short period at about 8 months and then had something between spotting and a period but only for 2 days and since have only had a little spotting after sex.
Avatar n tn The Doctor said that I would be going through menopause more then likely in a couple of years anyway and it would be safer to have them removed due to the chances of ovarian cancer. But I understand that if you keep them you do not need to go on hormone replacement. I am not sure what I should do? I know what my doctor thinks I should do!
Avatar n tn ve been on bio-identical hormone replacement from a Compounding pharmacy by prescription from my practitioner. I use Biestrogens ( estradiol/estrone) and progesterone and DHEA , At my last visit with her, she told me that women who only has their uterus out and still keeps their ovaries will develop early hormonal issues with the adrogens our bodies produce. Being, Progesterone/testosterone. These are the hormones that help us sleep soundly, keep away depression and anxiety..
1820675 tn?1317183244 Even if you did keep an ovary or if you kept both of them, you might still be considering hormonal replacement since the blood flow to the utererus is cut off from the ovaries and so they often will atrophy, according to some of the research I have done, and so your hormone production from the ovaries is less than optimal. But, if you did have your ovaries removed, I am from the school of thought that your doctor should have placed a patch of estradiol on you before you left the hospital.
Avatar f tn She says that I am only to take the white tablets (containing Estradiol valerate 2mg) once a day along with my other pills and she says this is because it will help my uterus grow as she is concerned about lack of space and possible miscarriage. My concern is that following some internet research - these tablets (The Progyluton) appear to be strongly contraindicated for pregnancy!! I am worried about taking them and I'm also worried about NOT taking them!!!!
988694 tn?1332359479 He does not believe in that, and he order some to tests. I went for estradiol test which is 78. Not sure if my estrogen is too low. I will have progesterone test in one more week. My FSH is 8.3 . Anybody experiencing something similar? is my estrogen too low for an ovulating woman? should I go into hormonal replacement (bioidentical)? any input will be appreciated. Thanks.
1809377 tn?1316520328 Even so, sometimes they will atrophy about three to six months after a hysterectomy and so you might experience a drop in Estradiol and a drop in Testosterone. If, of course, you have your ovaries removed, then you have lost your ability to create the sex hormones and will most likely choose to use supplemental estradiol and a little bit of testosterone. That's what I have done and it's made a world of difference in more ways than just in the area of sexual response.
Avatar f tn Do fat cells secrete estrogen? Do I even need estrogen replacement? I used a bioidentical progesterone cream in the past. I was on Yaz birth control before the surgery. Without that I was practically psychotic.I am more miserable now than before surgery. I cry A LOT. My family is sick of me and I am sick of me. My doctor doesn't explain things. Will excercise/supplements etc be enough?Where can I turn for info?
