Just had a cavity filled but it was to my knowledge that t it is perfectly safe to get fillings done while pregnant.. my fiance asked me if it was safe that they used numbing injections and I never thought to ask that! I am in my first trimester still and now I am terrified it could have hurt the baby. My tooth was badly infected and wouldn't take to the freezing so i had to get a few shots in the same place. Could I have harmed the baby doing this in first trimester? I am so worried...
I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me. The Epinephrine was used to clot my blood and the Xylocaine to numb the area. I know the medical community doesn't know everything and they reassured me this medication would not reach my baby but I think they may have been wrong on this one.
They won't do the gas while pregnant, they will give you the shots of novicane . I've had multiple dentist trips this pregnancy.
I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this:
"Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
So far I always got eye drops without epinephrine/or something equal to epinephrine, but this last eye doctor did not want to use any drops at all. He examined my eyes without dialating them.

It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine.
Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
I had a skin cancer removal and they used epinephrine on me twice during MOHS surgery (they leave you in the office for a couple hours while the biopsy goes to pathology), then shoot you with epinephrine again. Well.......my body did not like it and I had a major problem, lost consciousness, etc.
Maybe it has it do with the heart? This was not an experience I EVER want to go thru again.

It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
It makes a lot of sense to question whether to wait until he's done the test before taking a medication that blocks the action of epinephrine (metanephrine is the inactive metabolite of epinephrine, I believe what's left after the epinephrine is spent, and normetanephrine, the inactive metabolite of norepinephrine, which they also measure).
i recently went to the dentist they gave me two shots with epinephren in it and i had a severe attack while my heart raced uncontrolably i could not even move for at least an hour . what could this have done to my heart in the long term?
m wondering with my heart problem how dangerous is it to get a dose of epinephrine and how will that affect my heart? I had an epinephrine dose in the early nineties due to a breathing problem, but that was before I was diagnosed with the mvp and atrial misfire.
The pain is actually GONE. Completely. The other day it was so bad I just wanted to rip my tooth out. It is PARTIALLY impacted (has broken through half of the gum, so half is still covered in gum). Both teeth on the left side of my mouth are completely impacted and have never really seemed to want to come out.
But the top, right is completely out (has plenty of room, too). It's the bottom, right tooth trying to come in now.
I AM THIRTY-SEVEN AT THIRTY-FOUR I WAS NINE MONTHS PREGNANT AN LOST MY BABY TO PREECLAMPSIA I ALSO HAVE A ENLARGE HEART AND PREGNANT NOW. COULD THE PREECLAMPSIA REOCUR.
Ive never been to the dentist while pregnant but im sure whitenings r ok as long as no chemicals are swallowed
