Epinephrine injection

Common Questions and Answers about Epinephrine injection

epipen

Avatar f tn It is much, much weaker than epineprhine and you would get a much, much lower dose of it than dental injection with epinephrine. Even so, I would just play it safe for regular exams and just get tropicamide which should not affect blood pressure or pulse.
Avatar n tn For the first time in 37 years, two weeks ago when I received regular dental anesthetic my heart raced and I started having palpitations. It passed of course in a few minutes and when I went in yesterday for a root canal I asked for the anesthetic without epi. The first shot was fine, but the second injection sill caused my heart to pound hard, my chest felt shallow and made me feel a little panicy. It passed and the 3rd injection did the same.
Avatar m tn In a simple dental procedure, I had what I can only describe as a seizure after getting what was supposed to be lidocaine and epinephrine injection. The area never got numb, and the pain from the point of the needle each time they attempted to inject me was painful. I was taken to the ER and released after 8 hours with no explanation. I read that lidocaine can cause a seizure. I have had injections many times with no problem. What could have gone wrong?
Avatar f tn t tolerate epinephrine well and my teeth are hard to numb. The dentist prescribed Halcyon (which I took 1 hour before the appointment) saying it will relax me and make numbing easier and the non-epinephrine local anesthetic last longer. He gave me 2 shots of local on each side. Afterwards, I felt slight pain at one of the injection places, no pain anywhere else. The next day, my face was swollen, and I still had just the slight pain from one of the injections.
Avatar f tn I am not afraid of the dentist and the drilling does not cause me a lot of pain (it is not pleasant for me, but not really painfull). So, should I say to my dentist that I do not want the injection or is it absolutely safe to get it?

383138 tn?1314167773 I had severe heart reaction to lidocaine from a dental injection in the past, so they wont use it on me any more. But now my pain dr. wants to do a lidocaine IV infusion, he says IV infusion of lidocaine is different than the dental injection. My cardiologist says I can't have lidocaine at all, due to my past severe heart reaction to it, but my pain dr. thinks it will be OK and has scheduled me for infusion for pain relief for this Friday.
1817071 tn?1366228243 I had a tooth pulled, they used epinephrine. I was in afib with low rate for 8 days. Then afib every 2-3 day. I was given Rythmol as PIP. I gradually have had less afib, but, each one has 100 for rate...I called dr. and asked him what to do....he said I needed ablation and bp monitors were not accurate. I got a new dr. and new dr. did not say anything about the lowered rate. I go to new EP next week. I will ask him.
Avatar n tn The medicine that they use to numb you for the dental work often contains epinephrine....which does temporarily increase your heart rate....I would definately call ahead.
1558471 tn?1331222035 Your tachycardia in the period just after your injection was probably a reaction to the epinephrine that is used often used in these injections to help keep the anesthetic (Carbocaine or Lidocaine) in the area during and after the procedure. Epi can really cause the heart to race.
Avatar n tn Normally we aspirate the needle/syringe prior to injection. That's how we prevent intravascular injections of lidocaine. Otherwise it would directly travel up to the brain and can cause seizures or other symptoms such as restlessness, disorientation, etc. There are several possibilities in regards to the seizure. It may be due to an intravascular injection although from my understanding, the seizure would occur more rapidly since its goes directly to the brain quickly.
Avatar f tn I had to get stitches last night, and was given 5-6 shots of epinephrine and lidocane. I told the intake nurse I was taking synthroid (which I presume implies thyroid problems). I felt a little "unusual" afterward (pounding heart, feeling calm and detached..), and was googling the side effects of the shot.. an article said this: "Additionally, epinephrine and lidocaine usually aren’t used in patients with thyroid disease, or disease of the kidneys or liver.
Avatar f tn I have to go have a tooth filled tomorrow and I'm somewhat apprehensive about the anesthetic. I know most often the ones they use contain epinephrine because it's a vasoconstricter and causes the anesthesia to work longer. I know you can request the anesthetic without the epi but then it wears off quickly (like when they are drilling on your tooth). I asked my cardiologist and he said if I didn't get a big dose of the epi, if it was mixed, with the beta blockers I should be ok.
Avatar f tn In local anesthetics (like those used in dentistry), it's the epinephrine that's mixed in with the anesthetic that causes the problems for most patients with dysautonomia. There are local anesthetic formulations available without epinephrine, they just last for shorter periods of time and may require higher doses for efficacy.
Avatar n tn I had a 2nd trimester miscarriage the day that I had a mole removed at my dermatologist. They used Epinephrine and Xylocaine and when we received the autopsy report it revealed that my baby was perfectly normal and healthy without chromosonal issues prior to him dieing in my womb that day. Has anyone experienced this or known anyone who has? I researched on the web and found many warnings about pregnant women receiving Lidocaine from the dentist but not what they gave me.
Avatar m tn Hi, It is a serotonin and nor epinephrine reuptake inhibitor. The name of the neurotransmitter is nor epinephrine it is different from epinephrine. Most of the side effects occur during the period when one is taking the medication. But the important thing to remember is to follow the doctors instructions carefully. To reduce the incidence of side effects it is always started with a low dose and then it is gradually increased.
Avatar f tn Can anyone here tell me if ms has any effect on either of the hormones epinephrine or norepinephrine?
Avatar m tn The surgeon may possible have you use strong dilating drops for a few days before surgery, an injection of epinephrine or phenylephrine in the eye, the use of Healon 5 and or flexible, disposable iris retractors may also be needed. Overall, with proper technique, your risk of complications should be just a little more than the average case. I have been doing about 1 or 2 such cases a week for the last 3 years or so.
4703993 tn?1379768388 I found this tidbit in a journal abstract that you may want to show your doc: "Patients with syncope while supine also had sympathoadrenal imbalance before loss of consciousness. Sympathoadrenal imbalance precedes tilt-evoked and spontaneous neurocardiogenic syncope and correlates with concurrent skeletal muscle vasodilation. Sympathoadrenal imbalance may contribute to hemodynamic derangements precipitating neurocardiogenic syncope." http://www.ajconline.
Avatar n tn My cousin had cluster migraines which had no known cause. She had a botox injection at the base of her skull and has been migraine free ever since. Also, I used to get vascular migraines due to hormone fluctuations. I started on a low dose of prescription medication called atenolol. It's a beta-blocker. From what I can understand hormones influence certain brain chemicals (nor-adrenaline,nor-epinephrine) or something like that.
Avatar f tn It's the epinephrine in the anesthetic that causes the racing heart, etc. Next time you're at the dentist and you need/want an anesthetic ask for one WITHOUT epinephrine. The medication generally takes a little longer to "kick in" and wears off faster, but your dentist will work with you for maximum comfort.
1305767 tn?1361192676 t bad this time because they gave me nitrous but I learned they put epinephrine in the local anesthetic shots (it has something to do with helping the anesthetic last longer) So I'm thinking the epinephrine sends my anxiety level from like a six to a ten. Last November I had a tooth pulled and while the dentist was injecting the shot my heart rate got so high I almost passed out. They put a monitor on my finger and it was about 150! That is just crazy.
Avatar n tn m wondering with my heart problem how dangerous is it to get a dose of epinephrine and how will that affect my heart? I had an epinephrine dose in the early nineties due to a breathing problem, but that was before I was diagnosed with the mvp and atrial misfire.
Avatar m tn In most all modern hospitals syringes have a plastic slide on cover that goes over the point of the trochar (needle) before it is dropped in the Sharps. When the nurse is finished with the injection she slides the protective cover over the tip. Thus, even if you swished your hand around inside you would not contact a needle. Other systems use a "needle clip" that snips the end of the needle and the sharps is a small plastic box containing these needle tipe.
Avatar f tn Hi, Epipen contains epinephrine. Make sure that dosage you are taking is right one. It should only be used in case of life threatening allergic reaction. Epipen is known to be associated with shaking esp. when the larger doses are taken. You should not take more than recommended dose; otherwise you may land up in complication. This is due to stimulation of the muscles. Hence, epipen should be better used under doctor's observation.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the forum, Epipen delivers a measured dose of epinephrine (also known as adrenaline) using autoinjector technology, most frequently for the treatment of acute allergic reactions to avoid or treat the onset of anaphylactic shock. In certain cases it can be used to stop local bleeding. Epinephrine is known to act on the uterus through beta 2 receptors and can cause relaxation of the uterus. At term, it can prevent the contraction and delay the labor.
