I went to the doctor yesterday, she gave me a shot of Epinephrine. That helped for a couple of hours. I have been taking benadryl every 6 hours & putting blue star ointment on. Before I got the shot my mouth was swelling and I almost lost my voice. Please, let me know what to do.

No wonder your doctor agreed you were right to go off of it! So, no I don't think that was a herx. Or if it was------ it was a dangerous one and should never be tolerated. Avatar n tn About 8yrs ago I suffered anaphylaxis reaction to what I thought was pecan nuts. Symptoms being difficulty breathing, swelling closing airways etc. I was tested and from what I remember they said I was more allergic to dog hair than I was to pecan nuts which was weird. Anyway, I have had no further problems since apart from mild allergy to bananas (itchy throat) which I thought was ok to just live with.
Avatar m tn t go away in 5 to 10 minutes, or if you have other symptoms, call your doctor right away. It can be Exercise-induced anaphylaxis. Also wear medical alert jewelry or ID tags describing the condition and sensitive substances and always carry a self-injectable epinephrine kit (Epi pen). I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Avatar n tn Back to the hospital. I was given another dose of benedryl and was told that I would be fine, that I had the adrenaline and the benedryl on board and was in the clear. Not even an hour after that first one, I had another one right there in the emerg hallway waiting for a room. Somehow my body managed to fight the second one off without the epipen. This time I was given a steriod before I went home.

There are no reports of teratogenicity in humans. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Epinephrine is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.

539780 tn?1213943976 Hi, The familiar symptoms of bee and wasp stings include pain, redness, swelling, and itchiness in the area of the sting. Multiple stings can have much more severe consequences, such as anaphylaxis, a life-threatening allergic reaction that occurs in hypersensitive persons. I suffer a slow forming anaphylaxis and most of my reactions are internalized effecting my organs and muscles.

Avatar m tn Regular injections of the allergen are usually given (with each dose slightly larger than the previous dose) until a maximum dose is reached. However, these do not work for everybody and require frequent follow-up to your attending physician. Indeed, they may require years of treatment, but they work in most cases. They can also cause uncomfortable side effects and possible dangerous outcomes , such as anaphylaxis. Talk to your doctor about this for proper evaluation.
