Avatar f tn I've had JIA (Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis) for a while now. When I first got it I played baseball and every night I would come home from practice and my knees were inflamed and red. my knees were the size of cantelopes. i had to go to 3 of the US's top doctors before they finally diagnosed me and calmed the arthritis down. One of the first things I noticed to my diagnosis was my ankle was painful and hard to walk on, but there was no redness or inflammation.
Avatar f tn ve been on Enbrel for about 5 years and it has been an extremely good medication for both the psoriasis and the psoriatic arthritis. My concern is what am I going to do now that my husband is retired and my health insurance won't cover the cost. I live in Canada and the cost of this medication is approximately $22,000.00 a year which my husband's company insurance covered but now that he is retired, it will not cover the cost for my lifetime.
Avatar n tn After a million tests they decided I had juvenile arthritis. Then as an adult they realized that it was ankylosing spondylitis. My sister and niece have been diagnosed with it as well. I was doing real well on enbrel but then the insurance company decided I could no longer have 2 shots a week, it had to be one and since then my pain is far worse. I'm going to get a steroid shot today. I've been getting a lot more stiffness in my back now too and my ankle is really acting up.
Avatar f tn last time i was on treatment, I had what felt like arthritis, but when I finished treatment it went away. it was the meds.
Avatar f tn Well, I'm a complicated case. I don't test positive for arthritis at all, but I have the symptoms of rheumatoid.
Avatar f tn My 7 year old has been diagnosed with Polyarticular Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis since she was age 4. She has been on several medications to treat the symptoms. Currently she is taking 12.5 mg Methotrexate, 12.5 mg injections of Enbrel twice weekly and 7.5 mg of Meloxicam. She has been having temps of 99-101 for the last year and a half and thigh pain for 3 years. All the doctors conclude that this all may be her arthritis. I don't believe that.
Avatar f tn d seen a rheumatology for a proper diagnosis. Are you talking about osteo-arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis? They are two very different animals.
Avatar m tn My dad has been taking Enbrel for several yrs for psoriatic arthritis. I realize this is not the same condition as yours, but it has helped him tremendously!
3201003 tn?1345349318 Childhood arthritis is called juvenile arthritis. It can also be referred to as JRA, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, JIA, juvenile chronic arthritis, and Still's disease. Actually, these names are somewhat misnomers. Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and adult onset rheumatoid arthritis differ in some characteristics but the names indicate strict similarity. Juvenile chronic arthritis is a misnomer since juvenile arthritis is not always chronic.
Avatar f tn I have been on Enbrel in the past for at least 3 years until my arthritis progressed. I have never had any of the symptoms that you have described. I have had the darkened areas along the injection areas. I would check with the doctor regarding this.
Avatar m tn regulators have approved the drug for rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis, a painful, progressive form of spinal arthritis. All three forms of arthritis are chronic disorders in which the immune system attacks joints, causing stiffness, pain and restricted motion. The drug is injected under the skin once a month. It is made to be used alongside drugs that suppress the immune system.
Avatar f tn I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH RHEUMOTOID ARTHRITIS, IS IT NORMAL FOR THE PARTS OF THE BODY TO SHOW BRUISING AFTER A JOINT FLARE UP
Avatar f tn I am a 31 year old female with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis since age 15 (primarily in my knees). I take Enbrel, Zoloft and birth control. Otherwise, active and healthy.
422104 tn?1209763904 Makes sense. The secretary started to say on the message " it is too much" and stopped herself, guess I jumped to the needle thing too quickly. I start taking Enbrel tomorrow for my arthritis and AS, the neuro says it's ok. When I researched the drug it states that people with MS should not take it. I asked a neuro on this forum about it and he said Enbrel can " increase and or bring on demyelination".
Avatar n tn In a study it was shown that approximately 53% of people who have arthritis problem do not exercise or go for a walk. Beyond exercise walking is suggested by doctors in arthritis problem. Walking strengthens muscles and joints by increase blood circulation in those parts.
1544019 tn?1318504526 BUT it turns out it will actually probably be safer for me TO take the Enbrel. I have to control my arthritis because if I don't control it, (according to the lady at the pregnancy risk hotline we talked to today) Rheumatoid ARthritis puts me at risk for still birth and preterm labor. She said the Enbrel can be taken up to one week before I deliver. Which is a miracle, really, because I have had such a horrible flare the last two days. And it's gotten bad REALLY fast.
Avatar m tn i might have JRA (Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) and it's really starting to bother my everyday life. Is there a treatment or anything i can do to help it?
370181 tn?1595629445 I have now been through prednisone, methotrexate, Enbrel, Humara(Humira? sp) then back to Enbrel.......then nothing. The Enbrel worked very well, but I have massive anxiety about the biologics. I just don't trust them and and it's very frustrating. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard spot. On one hand they really do make me feel better, pain and ROM vastly improved.
Avatar f tn Hi, I have osteoarthritis in my thumbs and index fingers, carpal tunnel in both wrists, arthritis in my neck and other areas of my back and my knees. But I am not diagnosed as having RA. It is possible that you just have the *wear and tear* arthritis in a lot of your joints. You're not too young, esp. if it runs in the family.
Avatar f tn Granted, we have different types of arthritis, mine being psoriatic arthritis, but I can tell you that I was on Enbrel alone for atleast three years and I had great results with no side effects. For me it was a wonder drug. You may wonder why I would go off something so great...it was a dollars and cents issue. My husband retired and my lifelong coverage of medication was reduced to $100,000. On a medication like Enbrel, I would go through that within 4 to 5 years.
Avatar f tn I have been told to get off Enbrel for needed gallbladder surgery. My problem is that when I get off Enbrel, every joint in my body swells, turns red, hurts unbearably and locks up. I become completely bedridden and cannot get dressed or go to the bathroom without help. My blood tests show that, even with the Enbrel, my c reactives and other immune response numbers are very high. They tell me that they will give me prednisone to help with the reaction.
1544019 tn?1318504526 So just an update about this. Just when we finally got cleared for me to take the Enbrel while pregnant, we find out it's not going to be into the pharmacy until Friday AND it's going to cost $900!!! BUT it turns out it will actually probably be safer for me TO take the Enbrel. I have to control my arthritis because if I don't control it, (according to the lady at the pregnancy risk hotline we talked to today) Rheumatoid ARthritis puts me at risk for still birth and preterm labor.
Avatar f tn I am greatful for my family, and even though my husband is sick, God made me strong to be strong for him. Doing research online is different than actually talking with people that have the same devistating diseases that you are faced with everyday. I want my husband to be able to crawl on the floor and play with his kids. That is why I asked his dr about a different course of meds. Before we committed to something I wanted to ask around, see what kind of effect this has on others.
Avatar n tn Another drug that could hault progression is Enbrel, which is used for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Psoriasis, both autoimmune disorders, can may also work to slow down the progression of Vitiligo. It's important to stop it though, because most likely it will continue to get worse, at least for some time.
Avatar f tn My point is, the only test that she has tested positive for is HLA-B27, suggesting possible reactive arthritis. What are other diseases she could be suffering from, keeping in mind she has no lower spine pain? Her c-reactive protein spikes with inflammation, naturally. We tested all the Heps, Lyme, Lupus, RA factor ... all negative. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I’ve been taking Enbrel for the past 15 years or so with HUGE success! I have since Retired from work last month and now have a limited income. I signed up to Medicare/AARP for my post retirement healthcare requirement. During employment my Co-Pay was 25 dollars for a month supply. Now, Medicare and AARP collective insurance leaves me with 1,000 dollars for a month supply. Retail? $4600-$5500 for a 4 doses (month supply) Is there ANYTHING else that works as well as this?
Avatar f tn I used to take a drug for psoriatic arthritis that can induce MS or MS-like symptoms in rare cases. I had tingling and numbness on the left side of my face, extending down through my left arm. I also had burning sensations in my fingertips, and buzzing in my fingertips, along with recurrent uveitis. I was MRIed twice. The first time I had 1 lesion, and the second (one month later) there were 3 more lesions. I was taken off the drug and I didn't have any symptoms.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis. I have normal blood results, no elevated numbers on test results. I have swelling and edema in right hand fingers and knees, I have some joint pain and some hives at times. No psoriasis on me. I am in my late twenties my doctor wants me to take embrel. I do not have typical back symptoms of this type of arthritis. I need a diagnosis, What could this be? I tend to get stressed and that causessome symptoms to be stronger.
422104 tn?1209763904 Ok, heres one for anybody out there. Has anyone tried the Enbrel, had no luck with it and gone on to either the Remicade or Humira and gotten results? It's a beautiful day here in the NE and the pup is telling me it's time to get out there! Make it a good day everyone and I will check in later today. Sue & Casey, ha ha!
