Avatar f tn How much does the prednisone raise or lower the glucose level? Sometimes I feel lightheaded and my glucose reading is low, like around 65, and sometimes I am shaky and the reading is high, around 215. How do I know where my "normal" is and when I should be concerned? Diabetes runs in my family - my brother and mother have it. I am so confused and can not get a straight answer from my doctors. Help me to understand this please.
Avatar m tn If so, that appears to be normal. The likes of cardio level aerobic exercise will cause the release of glucose by the liver and for some people that causes a temporary rise in glucose levels. Also, I wasn't aware of this. Look at the 3rd paragraph on the right that begins with the word Atheletes. http://tinyurl.
Avatar f tn From what I understand, the amount of adult hemoglobin that becomes glycosylated to form HbA1c is directly related to the average concentration of glucose in the blood. In a normal person about 3-6% of Hb is glycosylated. One thing to investigate is whether you are experiencing the Symogi effect [reverse hyperglycemia while sleeping]. To counter this the liver releases extra glucose. One way to find out is to set your alarm and wake up at 2-3 am, or 4 hours after your bedtime, and test.

Avatar m tn My doctor just started me on Tricor and my blood sugar levels have gone up as well. Prior to being on Tricor, my fasting blood sugar has always been between 89 and 101. Now they range from 119 to 125. Any thoughts on alternative medications to lower high tryglicerides?
Avatar m tn I was put on Glibenclamide by my doctor which I took for a day but it had no effect on reducing my blood sugars. Thats when my diabetes health team put me on insulin. I questioned my diabetes consultant (the most senior level physician) on medication and he said that as I was neither insulin resistant nor over-weight there wass no medication that was appropriate. - I am both mentally as well as physically exhausted.
Avatar m tn While your response is individual, in my experience, intense physical activity can make blood sugars high (this is due to the effect of adrenaline and also the liver releasing glucose). The high may be followed by lows later. Longer / less intense exercise may not have an immediate obvious impact at the time of exercise or it may make blood sugars go lower. I find long duration exercise will make my sugars go lower many hours later. What do do? 1.
107693 tn?1252864443 For me I find I can reduce the dawn effect, by limiting how many carbs I eat. On a low carb diet I can normalise my fasting blood sugars. but on high calorie and/or carb it will go high. I find that a very low carb diet is far more effective at controlling blood sugars than the typical high carb diet that many with diabetes adopt. (ie. American Diabetic Association would say I should eat about 240 g of carbs per day.
Avatar m tn Check your glucose level in the middle of the night (around 3 AM). If your blood sugar is high, you are probably experiencing Dawn Phenomenon. One thing to try is not to snack 2-3 hours before bedtime. Carbs will raise glucose levels during the night.
Avatar f tn New red blood cells live an average of three months. Excess glucose binds to the outer walls of these cells never getting ingested to be used as energy. The A1c will read this. Bottom line, go get a checkup by your PCP.
Avatar n tn Hi, the rising blood sugar is to do with your liver releasing glucose into the blood when your body has not detected food coming in despite you being up and about. Best that you eat a small meal soon after waking. Are your sugars after eating ok?
470168 tn?1237471245 Look into the diet called "the carbohydrate addicts diet" I am not a salesperson, and this diet has been out for a long time. It has enabled me to lose 40 lbs and reverse prediabetes. What is so great about it is that you can still have the occasional "forbidden foods" and still keep your blood glucose level low. It is based on the way our bodies release insulin. If you consume all your carbs in one hour your body only releases two loads of insulin.
Avatar f tn The A1c test is used primarily to monitor the glucose control of diabetics over time. Depending on the type of diabetes that you have, how well your diabetes is controlled, and your doctor, your A1c may be measured 2 to 4 times each year. A 1% change in an A1c result reflects a change of about 30 mg/dL in average blood glucose. For instance, an A1c of 6% corresponds to an average glucose of 135 mg/dL, while an A1c of 9% corresponds to an average glucose of 240 mg/dL.
Avatar n tn We're not physicians heres, so please do discuss what you read here with your doc when your appt time arrives. We are experienced with Type 1 diabetes. I have read a bit about Type 2 and might be able to shed some light on what's going on. First, it's terrific, super, and great (!) that you're so well committed to your health. YOu've achieved excellent a1c and your dedication to exercise helps in that regard.
Avatar f tn Because all carbohydrates (except for fiber) will convert to blood glucose, adding up the carbs in a meal or snack allows us to determine its effect on blood sugar. Those who take rapid-acting insulin at mealtimes can match the dose to the amount of carbohydrate using an "insulin-to-carb" ratio. Those who do not take mealtime insulin can keep their carb intake within a range designated by their healthcare team in order to manage blood sugar levels optimally.
Avatar n tn Also, taking Metformin in quarters is below the recommended dose and is so minimal, I highly doubt it has any affect on helping to lower your glucose [blood sugar] level. You should check with your doctor about other oral diabetes medications, that is, if you wish to continue treating your potential diabetes. "...I do not have any symptoms at all." Not everyone has diabetes symptoms.
Avatar f tn I have a fasting blood glucose level of 101 and 102 for several years now and have been taking diovan hct and excedrin. I know these drugs have the ability to raise blood sugar readings. Should I be concerned about these readings? If I get off these drugs will my levels return to normal?
Avatar m tn Marijuana does nothing to affect blood glucose levels either direction. Glucose levels in type 2 diabetes are maintained by weight loss, exercise and reduction of carbs. The only effect marijuana might have is to give you the munchies when you might eat things that could raise your blood sugar. If you are having trouble maintaining blood sugar in target range talk with your doctor about putting you on some meds.
Avatar f tn I t is a welknown fact that stres does have effect on blood sugar level as well as blood Pressure. Unfortunately both the Diabetes and Hyper tension are treatedsymptomatically and hence there is very poor respose in regulating both of the conditions. Both conditions are really not the diseases. they are the signs (symptoms for a layman's term) and hence what doctors can do is to merely bring down the figures!!
Avatar f tn Anybody out there have a blood glucose level of 135 and actually have gestational diabetes? I've read that the acceptable number is below 140 but some doctors set the cutoff at 130. My doctor apparently sets the cutoff at 130... I had a VERY hard time with the 1-hour screening (sick, weak, dizzy) and am unwilling to do the 3-hour test. What do you guys think about the 135 level? How many women with 135 actually have gestational diabetes????
Avatar m tn Your daily average level of 10 mmo/l is dangerously high and maximum of 14 mmol/l is suicidal. Sadly to say your blood glucose levels are out of control. Testing once a day, in your case, will not provide you with adequate data to learn what is causing your blood glucose to elevate. This is the testing regimen first time users must perform before they step down to once a day or even once a week testing. The latter takes months and in some case years to get to.
