I am uninfected, have a 5 year old and pregnant again. Husband has had HSV-2 for 14 years. He has taken Valtrex for suppression and outbreak treatments during our 7 yr. marriage. We also use condoms consistently. Recently he had direct hand-genital contact (stratching he thought was jock itch), next day had a genital outbreak and about 2-3 days later massive outbreak on both hands and little on his feet.
I came across in the internet about Kaposi varicelliform eruption or eczema herpeticum which affects people with eczema(I know I should not be relying on the internet but it was one of those things I just read unknowingly and made me all worried) . I dont have such a problem and I know it is rare but my father actually works as an allergist and might be exposed to patients with eczema herpeticum when they come to find out about the allergies which is causing their eczema.
ll just say (again) that your symptoms and description of the rashes are not typical for herpes (but you already know that). However, there is a condition called eczema herpeticum, in which standard allergic eczema is complicated by a secondary infection with HSV1. Look at online photos of it.
You may not need to see a dermatologist within 48 hours of onset to get an accurate diagnosis.
My real question while I wait to test again relates to my eczema and inverse psoriasis. Since my possible HSV exposure the rashes from those two skin disorders has been worse than ever. Does anyone know if there is a link between them and HSV? They are considered autoimmune problems and are made worse by stress, so this isn't helping. And the initial eczema flareup on my legs was the worst it's ever been, which is why I asked about the HIV RNA test being confirmed negative.
It is believed that infection with eitehr HSV type coners lifelong immunity to reinfection with the same type. It may not be complete immunity, but at a minimum she would be highly resistant. So if your girlfriend's blood test is positive to HSV-1, there are no signficant worries for transmission. (By the way, I don't know what LDR means. Your girlfriend probably would be happy to know you view her as the leader of your partnership, but somehow I suspect that isn't it....

I asked me doctor if anything looked like eczema and he said no, but ran a platelets test to see. So I guess we can rule out eczema herpeticum.
My questions are, can anything else be compromising my immune system that I can get checked? Cancer or something?
The only abnormality was a low vitamin d level that I've been taking daily tablets to help that.
How likely is a dessiminated infection likely to recur in these locations?
Are eczema sufferers very likely to get eczema herpeticum if exposed to the herpes virus or is it still rare?
my daughter has eczema and I am worried about eczema herpeticum. She is so little still and comes into contact with so many other kids and people- I just want some cold hard facts on the possiblilites of her contracting eczema herpeticum. Her eczema is mainly on her face. Would it just take a kiss on the cheek to pass the herpes virus to her eczema? Or is it trasmitted to ones self by a cold sore to an eczema patch by touch? How common is this?
ve learned to manage it pretty well, (cold showers, moisturizing, no saunas). About 2 months ago, I broke out with what I thought was an eczema rash on my crotch and lower torso, but it had some bumps on it. I had a single fat cold sore on my lip at the time, too. I went into a local dermatologist who gave me Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream. A couple days later the cream seemed to make it worse, and I sick with flu like symptoms, and more cold sores appeared on my lip, around my mouth and chin.
as i stated before i KNOW that its not common to end up getting herpetic eczema (also called eczema herpeticum) (which is what its called when you get it through atopic dermatitis or eczema lesions and NOT through direct oral or genital contact)...
@ franklinandbash yes hsv CAN be gotten by someone touching an arm (or anywhere else that has a severe atopic dermatitis flair up or eczema flair up....
I consulted dermatology and they popped on of the blisters and took a viral culture. He was seen by the second year resident who believes this could be eczema herpeticum. I briefly touched one of the patients lesions but did not get any liquid on me. I have no cuts on my fingers but I'm super worried that I may acquire a herpetic whitlow from this exposure. I washed my hands 4 times afterwards.
few days ago I found out about disease called Eczema Herpeticum, which is a potentially deadly inflammatory disease which is caused by herpes virus HPV1 and infects inflamed skin such as Eczema, Seborrhoeic dermatitis, etc. It will create watery pastules/warts/nodules, which if untreated, will spread to whole face and then rest of the body and may cause death...
I love her, and I cant imagine being without her... but I am afraid of this. How big risk is developing that disease?
Even if you happen to have asymptomatic HSV-2 (which is not causing your symptoms), that would double your risk of HIV if your partner had HIV, but it is statisticlaly unlikely she did. And double risk doesn't really mean much anyway when the HIV risk is very low to start. If we guess this exposure carried an HIV risk of 1 in a million (which probably is about right) doubling that risk means one chance in 500,000. In other words, forget it.

First, could you clarify your advice that my boyfriend get tested for HSV1? He has never had symptoms, so they can't culture any discharge. Would a blood test be accurate enough, given his high probability of having the virus?
Secondly, a local clinic told me that my HSV1 can't trigger an outbreak in someone else who carries the virus. Is that true? Does it matter whether the other person has ever had symptoms?
In general, it is believed that whitlow develops mostly in people with new HSV infections, either HSV-1 or -2. Someone who already has longstanding HSV-1 (mostly oral) or HSV-2 (almost entirely genital) is not likely to get a new whitlow. Therefore, it seems likely that you acquired a new HSV infection.
How did you get it? Impossible to tell. Knowing the virus type would be helpful.
I also would not worry about the blood test missing the HSV 2. The test is very sensitive for HSV 2. And yes, I have seen sores that happen from yeast infections, they are called satellite lesions, and are actually quite common, especially with severe yeast infections. I would follow up with a gyn person first, then, if no satisfaction, derm.
Went to the doctor and she ran a culture on the sore which came up negative and a blood test. The blood test ran was HSV type 2 specific Ab, IgG. The result was 1.82 which is positive. However, from everything I have read here it seems like this could be a false positive because the number is so low? I do have HSV1 on my feet and hands and have had it for about 15 years. I am just wondering if this is an accurate test or if I should get another test ran. The test was done by LabCorp.
