147426 tn?1317265632 MedHelp has requested a listing of the common MS meds and the common meds we have questions about, or are put on or are using. They are linking to a huge medication database. I gave them a quick list off the top of my head, but I know I missed a bunch. Please, Check out the MS Meds Health Page and post any I missed here on this thread. Thanks a bunch.!!
338416 tn?1420045702 Well, as you all know, I've been taking 5mg of donepezil a day for my cognitive impairment. I'm on #4 today. Interestingly, I feel like I might have had a mini-flare at the beginning of the week (or maybe it was the allergies) - but despite that, my brain feels more 'on.' I'm remembering stuff better, and I'm able to stay on task better. I drove last night, and I felt safer - less distracted, more able to concentrate on driving.
Avatar n tn Here goes... I have been seeing several doctors (all cross referred) and all are perplexed (thier words). Meanwhile I am confused, frustrated and suffering. I am a married 53yo tall otherwise avg male. Until 18mo ago I was in good health, very active, and a college professor. I do not drink or do drugs. I am now unable to work or do most of the activities I once enjoyed. My mother died of cancer and my father died ostensibly from alcohol induced cerebral ataxia.
338416 tn?1420045702 Somebody asked on another thread how the Aricept was working out, so I thought I'd post an update... So far, I haven't seen any of the negative side effects of Aricept. I'm on the 5 mg dose, which is the lowest it gets, and I have really noticed an improvement in my memory and my multi-tasking abilities. I'm able to remember phone numbers, and cook a complicated meal. (Made pork lo mein on Tuesday... yum.) I also seem to be grouchier, and less tolerant than I used to be.
Avatar f tn Hello, Short term memory loss after brain surgery is more common than you might think. Let me break this into a two part answer, first the basic info about standard approaches, and second, what I have seen happen over the years working with patients that had brain trauma from different sources; First, Rehabilitation after brain tumor surgery that results in memory loss typically involves psychotherapy and cognitive therapy.
246236 tn?1275478902 I'm bumping this...not sure if the lack of answers is because no one else on the forum is on or has been on Aricept, but just in case, I'm bumping it back up to the first page.
704043 tn?1298056844 WOW, I'm glad you guys brought this up. I had no idea that Aricept worked that way. Does it give you a lift too----you know like ritalin?
Avatar f tn My husband has been taking 10mg of Aricept for 2 years now and I have not noticed any significant difference in his memory. Actually, my observation is his memory is becoming worse. I'm struggling with whether I should discontinue the medication since I don't see improvement and because it is quite costly. I also know Aricept is designed to slow down the dementia so if I discontinue it I'm wondering if he will become worse much faster.
Avatar m tn If a person has not been diagnosed with alzheimers but is taking aricept, is it okay? will it hurt to be taking it?
Avatar f tn I have been taking aricept for about 9 months. It is hard to tell if there is an improvement. It has been a while since I forgot my way home but I still forget a lot of little stuff. I keep taking it because I am convinced it cant hurt anything and it just might help a little.
Avatar f tn t know anything about that - all I know is that before Aricept, I was in a gray mist, and after five months of Aricept, everything seemed to make more sense. Before Aricept, it was as if I had low water pressure - I just couldn't get enough juice in my brain to put thoughts together. On Aricept, suddenly my brain could make connections. The only trippy thing I noticed was an almost hi-def moire behind my eyeballs when I went to sleep.
Avatar f tn I am confused as to which is the most important issue and how I approach each. I see a neurologist this week and have been placed on Aricept. Yet still the confusion lingers. Please give me some directive on which is the most imperative issue.
Avatar n tn my mum was diagnosed with alzaheimer in October 2008, she was prescriped dogmatile fort 200, aricept, trittico and lustral, I wonder if this combination goes well as she is more depessed since she took the medication.
Avatar n tn I am 15 years old and I am having trouble remembering certain words as I speak. I often think of exactly what I am about to say, and as soon as I begin to say it I forget the most important words. It's almost as if they have been erased from my mind. I often don't remember the word or words for days. I need an answer!!! My performance academically depends on it. HELP!
338416 tn?1420045702 I went to my PCP yesterday morning because my neurologist's office recommended I see her for a possible medication interaction causing my seizures... well, as you can guess, there is no medication interaction. My PCP, who's a nice intelligent grandma-type, thought this was an issue for the neurologist. She also gave me a sample of an inhaler for asthma, although so far it hasn't helped my shortness of breath.
Avatar f tn Not quite sure what area to post this. My husband is 43, he's a recovering alcoholic (3 yrs sobriety) and former speed / marijuana user (clean for over 12 years on this) ... a few years ago right before he quit drinking an MRI showed 14 white spots on his brain, he was worked up for MS, and was negative. My husband works 12 hr night shifts, and also sometimes about 2 weeks straight. This morning he accused me of taking 400.00 cash out of our safe, I did not do this nor would I.
338416 tn?1420045702 m momentarily off the Aricept, my work performance has declined. Basically it looks like I have to keep taking Aricept in order to do my job. So my question is, do I tell my employer about my cognitive problems? It sounds like I could lose my job, get a poor performance evaluation, all that that implies, because I'm having cognitive difficulties. My immediate supervisor knows about my diagnosis. Will revealing that I'm having cognitive problems be a bad idea?
Avatar m tn I have been taking Effexor XR 75 mg for 4-5 months, then I suffered from deterioration of my cognitive functions;as memory loss, slow thinking, difficulty in understanding written or spoken words, poor flow of ideas. when these symptoms occured , I have decided to stop the drug but my symptoms have not improved . Now I spend about 1 month and my intellectual functions is still impaired.
338416 tn?1420045702 I think that's exactly what happened to me - I was in a fog for a long time. I asked for a script for Aricept, got it, and was on that for three months. It felt very much like the Aricept gave my brain enough 'power' to jump over the holes. After a while, it was more like the brain knew how to navigate around the holes.
649926 tn?1297657780 If anyone has scoop on their experience with Aricept or any other cognition helping drug please take a minute to chime in.
Avatar f tn My husband has dementia. He takes the Bupropion in the morning along with his Aricept and Exforge (for blood pressure). He gets drowsy right after taking his pills and I think it may be the Bupropion HSL SR causing this. His neurologist told him the anti-depressant would probably make him "a little more fuzzy in his thinking". My husband is usually at his best in the morning as far as clear thinking goes.
900662 tn?1469390305 After discussion with MS Neuro and my wife , we agreed that I should start Aricept , it is used mostly for Alzheimer, so its off label and he says it has shown great results. I do have a damaged working memory and slower processing speed, cognitive impairment effects every day in some small way. I won't reveal to any other family or friends that I ve stated this med, I just think I would feel self-conscious about people looking for my errors and mistakes.
Avatar m tn Besides Clonazepan, Solof, Lorazepan, Divalproex, Citalopran, Donepezil,Divalproex, Enalapril, Carb/Levo tab she started taking Ziprasidone four weeks ago. Please tell me if she should stop taking some of those medications.
Avatar m tn hey Wobbly, i was just wondering if other MS'ers have had this med or not. my neuro prescribed it recently. I see it is mainly given to Alzheimer's and dementia. so why RX that to me when i see no one else on this forum replying to this thread that they have tried this. LOL i know of other meds for cognitive/speech issues given to MS patients but not this.
Avatar f tn She has moderate to severe short term memory loss and has been started on Aricept. She has also recently had an MRI of the brain. Could you explain: "moderate diffuse cerebral atrophy and chronic white matter small vessel disease"? Thank you!
Avatar m tn She is not alcoholically person and never drink in her live. She has heart disease and take atorvastatin for 10 years and also donepezil and ladiomil for 4 years. Since her doctor discover problem with GOT and GPT she stopped taking atorvastatin (3mounts before) because they were suspicious that atorvastatin was reason for this problem but again GOP and GPT increase. Next step was cancer marker (CA19-9 = 34.4, AST = 5.47, CEA=3.22) and virus markers (HBsAg Es = 0.13 negative, Anti-HCV = 0.
