Avatar f tn The Genetic Specialist is having me do a blood test for Fragile X. Apparently signs of Fragile X shows more in males than females because males only have 1 x-chromosome whereas females have two. But its passed to males through their Mothers. Anyone know anything more about this?
341551 tn?1266980730 I got a random phone call today (6 weeks after my first blood panel) and my doctor told me that my numbers for the Fragile X testing was 30-47. And the negative or "norm" is under 45. So she said that barely puts me into the intermediate category but she had to tell me because of that factor. She said most of my chromosomes were normal but the higher end of them was 47 putting me into that category.
Avatar n tn Doctor, I am 38 years old, been ttc for 2 years, I've had two m/c's early 6 and 8 weeks. I'm a carrier of the Fragile X gene, the number they gave me for Fragile X was 55, they said it was a "grey area", I am also a carrier of cystic fibrosis. My DH checks out fine for all his tests. My question is would you recommnend IVF with PGD?
3078345 tn?1340806018 My kids' Doctors believe that 2 out of 3 of my kids have fragile "x" syndrome. My (6 years old next month) son will be tested first in a couple of weeks. My sons behavior is very unique. My son has been diagnosed with moderate/severe Autism at 2 1/2 years old but as he got older it has become more A-typical Autism + ADHD. He acts like characters from games & movies. No matter what we eliminate from his vision he becomes characters good or bad, villain or heroes.
Avatar f tn Do you know if your brother in law has autism caused by Fragile X (easy to test via a simple bloss test) ? If so, that type of autism (which is a minority of the cases) is passed to the child by the mother. If he has autism caused by fragile X but you yourself do not carry the fragile X chromosome, you probably will not have a child with autism. You need to see a genetic specialist. Do your research and go ask the questions.

Avatar f tn one genetic condition you may want to consider is fragile x syndrome. a carrier of fragile x syndrome can experience early loss of eggs, and in this case, a baby born to a mother with this condition would be predisposed to mental retardation, particularly if the baby was a boy. fragile x testing can be done on your blood. i hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I have a condition that dilutes my urine but last time had a positive a week before I was due for my period. Now I have soreness in breasts and some nauseous mornings. I am also a fragile X carrier. That news came a week after the mis. I am praying I ovulated late and it's just to early. I will make a doc appointment. Afraid for more bad news. Luck to all. So hard to not stress and be heartbroken and angry after every negative test.
