Alzheimer's is a form of dementia. Dementia can be caused by many things like other diseases such as parkinson's, hormones, oxygen deprivation (from low lung function or carotid blockages) or other.
Most have slightly different progressions.
Thank you! I know that bipolar has a genetic link, and without a doubt, my father had an undiagnosed case, as well as, my paternal grandmother. I have heard that Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia are also genetic.
It's pretty scary to me at 40 to think I might be like my grandmother and start the downhill slope in 10 years. Luckily, I have gotten the treatment I need for the BP, so it might not happen that soon! BUT, it might! SCARY!

My mother, age 70,, developed Alzheimers disease two years ago and is rapidly deteriorating. It is devastating to watch.. and to fear you too will be there at that early age.

It says Alzheimer's now appears to start 25 years before any signs are noted. No relation there to covid. My husband got the MRI report today: mild small vessel ischemic change with no evidence of acute infarct. Volume loss in the right temporal lobe likely representing encephalomalcia. What is the actual physical failure that causes death from Alzheimer's, and how is the failure caused by the disease? I had a brain mri scan for recurrent 'auras' thought to be due to migraine. The result of the scan came back normal except for a few spots of plaques. I am 50, is this normal? I am concerned that it is indicative of early degeneration associated with dementia.

Your info is NOT correct. Ppl with Alzheimer’s can and do hallucinate. However seeing a neurologist should provide with with better answers. Hallucinations are sensory experiences that seem real to people with Alzheimer's disease, yet they are not really happening.

Dementia is not a demyelinating disorder. Dementia is a disorder which can have up to 50 different causes. The commonest ones are the vascular dementia and Alzheimer's type dementia. High blood pressure is a contributing factor for vascular dementia.
