I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.

Same here. I have a dizzy, faint feeling much of the time on 25mg. I also have a weak feeling in my legs. I don't know what else to blame it on except the Toprol.
i have a history of mitral valve stenosis - rheumatic fever in childhood -- no changes in EKG, echo, carotid doplers MRI, etc - should i be concerned regarding nocturnal tachycardia -- am on toprol twice a day, diovan, and simvastatin, premarin, metroprolol, saw cardiologist in Dec -- diovan was added because bp was slightly elevated -- just started the night tachycardia -- wakes me up and then I fall right back to sleep before I can even check my pulse rate -- should I contact him?
my toes and lower legs are feeling numb. I tried metoprol and diovan hct and although by bp is in the normal range my heart rate is elevated unless I continue on the cardizem cd. Is there another medication that I can discuss with my cardiologist to replace the cardizem cd that will keep my heart rate in the normal range? I feel I've got to withdraw from the cardizem as the side effects seem to be progressing the longer I use the medication.
I was on good ol Toprol xl for about 6.5 years with DIovan ! bad combo ! I suffered for years, on these idiot drugs. I tryed a few times to get off the meds - however blood pressure spiked high on me - and I had massive dizzy spells happen - due to h.b.p
shes right on the mark, about kidneys damage - and heart damage due to b.p being high
and untreated - as well the arteries get damaged too and clogged up. as the blood pounds threw the vains to the heart ! alot of damage can happen !
I take plavix, lipitor, toprol-xl & diovan. Have been taking them for 2 1/2 years after stent implantation. Any ideas on how long you should be left on each of these..or are they classified as 'health maintenance'. No real side effects to speak of.
If you can tel from numbers, is my condition mild, moderate or severe? Taking diovan and toprol xl, diuretics, lipitor. Swelling is better, but still feel the same with exercise. Getting cramps in ribs and toes. Potassium is 2.5 to 2.8 with taking 20 mq pot chl x 3 daily. Seems I either have muscle cramps or swelling. Can hypertrophy reverse if I stay on meds long enough? Thanks.
overweight and have type 2 diabetes. I take metformin, janumet, caduet and until yesterday diovan. During a stress test yesterday my systolic bp rose to 260 in a very short time (diastolic was elevated but not so greatly). When my BP has been taken several times throughout the year at rest it has been 120/80 (ish). I am not very active but do walk 1-1/2 miles a day at a moderate rate. The cardiologist took me off of diovan and told me to begin 100 mg toprolol (sp?) immediately.
Boy does that sound familiar. Diovan HCTZ landed me in the hospital. I was on that & something else (have been thru so many that I don't remember what the second med was at that time). My BP spiked so high that my doc gave me a second dose and I bottomed out. I know one of my BP meds caused horrible edema. I had elephant legs for the longest time.
my dad had a triple bypass last apr 21. last saturday, jul 4/2009 he started on diovan 160/12.5 (from corvesy+) and since Sat he's been experiencing chest pains that is not going away. is this a side effect? is he allergic to the this new med he's taking or is this angina? should he get himself to an ER?
I would ask the dr if you could just take 1/2 once a day of the toprol instead of taking it twice a day. If your taking a beta blocker to relief your palps are they are worse due to the meds they your dr needs to try something else. Are they worse on the toprol? If so I would ask to go off of the meds all together. I take atenolol and I am down to 1.2 dose due to palpitations. I would definetly discuss your options with your doctor and get a treatment plan that helps! Good Luck!
