Common Questions and Answers about Diovan to lisinopril conversion

diovan

Avatar f tn I take 40 mg. of Lisinopril twice per day; Diovan 320mg - twice per day and Clonidine HCL 0.2 mg at bedtime. My Nephrologist wants me to take the Clonidine in the mornings also, but I cannot function - I am too dizzy and weak. I have had a stent placed in the artery leading to my left kidney and my pressure has gotten higher.
Avatar n tn It worked for my blood pressure and lowered it but it also made my depression worse and I finally went to my doctor to get off of them. I am now weaning off of the Toprol XL. I am on the second day of 12.5mg and I can't tell you how bad I have felt all day. Extreme anxiety and jittery. I CANNOT wait for this drug to be out of my system. i will be starting lisinopril for my blood pressure, hopefully with better results. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.
Avatar n tn It depends on your Doctor and Insurance plan. most good Doctors will keep you on the beta blockers for 2 to 3 years then switch to another name brand of beta blocker med or another medication. or ween you off it slow if your b.p is down to normal or below. it depends. I know for a fact -being on beta blockers for long term isnt good ! there are all sorts of reasons why? and you can find it online by putting long term use on beta blockers. lots of information to read !
Avatar f tn Chest pain is not a known side-effect of diovan/hctz. Given the fact that he had a recent bypass I would urge you to take him to the ER ASAP.
Avatar n tn ve been using anti-hypertensives for ten years now starting with Lotensen and then switching to Diovan HCT then to hydroclorothyazide for a year or two then back to Diovan HCT. I am about 20 kgs overweight. I walk every day and when in a good routine 8 kms a day, up and down hills through fields etc.
Avatar f tn I still want children very badly and was told that basically, there were meds that I can take instead of Lisinopril, but I would have to stop taking Coreg. Of course, I would just have to see how I would do without Coreg... Are there any alternatives to Coreg?
Avatar m tn I have been taking Lisinopril for 2 years and since then my resting heart rate is between 90-100. Here recently though after I take Lisinopril it has jumped to 130 when walking 100 when resting. I take Lisinopril in the morning and my pulse jumps but at night it gos back to being okay (Lisinopril's half life is 12 hours). I haven't taken today because I was out but my resting pulse is 90 and when I went to WalMart it went no higher than 110 unlike 140 yesterday.
378273 tn?1262097621 I have a history of good (low) BP, and since the onset of AFib and the ingestion of beta blockers (up to 200 mg of Metoprolol a day) my BP tends to be on the low side. When I first went to 200 mg of the BB my BP went too low, i.e., some dizziness. I may have missed your points, but can say my experience is, AFib doesn't cause high BP.
514523 tn?1215832667 You may need to taper off of the Diovan at some point, so you should be mindful of what your blood pressure is doing and be prepared to ask your doctor to adjust or discontinue the Diovan. You're not on any thyroid meds, so you will need to find out why you are hyper, and you will likely be on the Toprol for a few months at least while the thyroid problem is sorted out. Best of luck to you.
406399 tn?1201884300 as maybe the meds need to be adjusted to lower dose. or change to something in beta blocker family of meds.. with less effects ? (I wish) what im wondering has anyone had this problem changing meds.?? like having alot of side effects happen, and palps from ccb. ??
Avatar f tn After several complaints, he then placed me on 10 mg, and 50 mg of atenenol, is there any other beta blocker to take place of atenenol, it causes my legs to cramp and feet to swell.
Avatar m tn I have been taking 40 mg lisinopril for 3 months. It works on my BP but I am coughing and my nose is running.
Avatar f tn I am also taking diovan 80.12.5 once a day. I would like to get off this medication as it is making me very sluggish and tired all the time. How do I wean off this medicine as I am only taking it for one month.
Avatar f tn My question is could this be the result of the CVID? My PP reduced my Diovan HCL 160 to Diovan 80 to see if that was the problem. Should I be concerned?
630309 tn?1222446259 My physician started me on Lisinopril 20mg every day to help lower my blood pressure on 9/23. I had a follow up appointment today and he increased it to 30mg every day. Is this normal? It seems a little to soon to be increasing a medication after only taking it for 3 days.
Avatar f tn She does suffer from anxiety and has gone down on the dose of her Zolft, Busbar and Nurantun (excuse the spelling). She went to the hospital one moring with high blood pressure and they kept her all night checking her blood and doing a stress test, all came back ok. Does anyone know what could be causing this serge of high blood pressure in the morning? What can she do to bring it down, we worry about a stroke or heart attack? She is only 55 and never had a health problem, any suggestions.
Avatar f tn So it would be important to try to distinguish whether the cough is related to the med or to the CHF (ie due to fluid in the lungs). However, if you only started to cough after starting the lisinopril, I would suspect it could be the drug. In which case, I would switch you to a "cousin" drug of lisinopril (one of many that fall under the class of drugs called ARBs---for angiotensin receptor blockers).
Avatar f tn I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.
Avatar m tn After a while, I started feeling dizzy or light headed and We decided to cut down diovan to 80 mg. the dizziness went away for a few monts then it came back and was getting worse. I made a big mistake of stopping the Diovan all together. I was monitoring my blood pressure and it was in the 130-140/80's and I thought I was OK without the medication.
Avatar m tn Instructions for Viagra, Cialis, etc. say not to take w/ BP meds. I'm thinking there are a cpl possibilities. Diovan (Valsartan) is available in different doses (20 mg, 40 mg, etc.), so maybe you could take a lower dose on the day you'll be using Viagra. Or possibly just skip your usual dose that day, then resume the next. However, your Dr. may not agree. I think the best strategy is to ask your Dr. about using these 2 drugs at the same time.
Avatar n tn However, this could also be due to some medications such as the combination of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide that is used to treat high blood pressure. Lisinopril is in a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) while Hydrochlorothiazide is in a class of diuretics. Tingling in the hands and feet along with dizziness, headache and cough are some of the effects that are observed in this drug combination.
Avatar f tn I did just find something that was interesting. The link, in the case you would want to read more, is http://www.theheart.org/article/1384629.do. I am taking the following out of the whole to publish here as I feel there might be some reassurance to others in this information as this doctor is supposed to be a renowned hypertension expert. In an interview, Dr Norman Kaplan (University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas) agreed.
Avatar m tn Lisinopril is not a medication known to result in withdrawal effects when the dose is reduced or the drug is stopped. After you have reduced the dose, your doctor will recheck your blood pressure to see if the lower dose is keeping your blood pressure in the desired range. The typical range is 10-40mg per day for hypertension (high blood pressure), but it can be effective at the 5mg dose to maintain your blood pressure.
