my dad had a triple bypass last apr 21. last saturday, jul 4/2009 he started on diovan 160/12.5 (from corvesy+) and since Sat he's been experiencing chest pains that is not going away. is this a side effect? is he allergic to the this new med he's taking or is this angina? should he get himself to an ER?
This medicaion prohibits the kidneys fro producing angiotension. Angiotension is hormone that suppresses as a vasoconstrictor. Or there can be ARB and that lowers blood pressure by binding angiotensin to a receptor. Either can be effective and the combination of the two can be an option as well.
What meds have you tried.
I am also taking diovan 80.12.5 once a day. I would like to get off this medication as it is making me very sluggish and tired all the time. How do I wean off this medicine as I am only taking it for one month.
I'm a 64 yrs. old woman who used to take Diovan 320 mg. & Toprol 50 mg. for my B.P. My B.P. readings was okay but my Doctor discontinued the Toprol because my heart rate usually on the 40's. I am currently taking Norvasc 5mg. with the Diovan 320 mg. So far, my B.P. readings is very good, 110/70. But eversince I started the Norvasc, my left leg is swelling and it is becoming worst. I'd like to ask my Doctor to discontinue the Norvasc.
I have high blood pressure and have been on medication for about 2 years now. I started taking Diovan 40 mg about 3 years ago, but my doctor thought it wasn't working so he increased it to 160 mg. After a while, I started feeling dizzy or light headed and We decided to cut down diovan to 80 mg. the dizziness went away for a few monts then it came back and was getting worse. I made a big mistake of stopping the Diovan all together.
Mayo Clinic was involved in some of that testing and they used Diovan. the angiotensin drugs all work the same on fibrosis.
These are the ACE drugs and the ARB drugs. The best,in my opinion is the ARB drug Losartan, invented 1990, approved 1995, sold about 2000 and out of patent 2010 (therefore inexpensive). This drug blocks angiotensin varients from attach to the cells walls of the vascular system and cause vasoconstriction. Dose is generally from 25mg to 100 mg a day. Over 100 mg doesn't help much more. They prescribe once a day, but you can break up the dose into two pills a day.
Which meds are they? If ARB or ACE inhibitor, it is possible that these drugs were responsible for shrinkage. Click on my screenname and read my numerous posts on the topic.
The goal would be to stop the pathology, thereby stopping the myopic increases. Are you aware of the latest treatments using ARB drugs? ARBs (like telmisartan) are drugs that have been shown to stop aortic dilatation in MFS patients because it reduces the signaling that causes the aortic dilatation.
ve been using anti-hypertensives for ten years now starting with Lotensen and then switching to Diovan HCT then to hydroclorothyazide for a year or two then back to Diovan HCT. I am about 20 kgs overweight. I walk every day and when in a good routine 8 kms a day, up and down hills through fields etc.

ve lost 12 pounds and my bp has dropped from 148/98 to 135/88. I am also taking Diovan though hope to be off it as I continue to lose weight.
(2) I don't smoke and rarely drink.
(3) I did have a stress test a year or two ago that turned up nothing significant. Any further testing I should consider?
(4)I have spoken with my family doctor, but other than the stress test, she suggested nothing else.
t have EDS, but my aortic root is at the high end of normal, and I might have some mild degree of connective tissue problem (not enough of anything for a diagnosis), but the enlarging of my aorta was completely stopped by taking max dose of valsartan (similar to cozaar (ARB)). Many other people I know w/ connective tissue problems like MFS have had the same results, or aortic shrinkage. I have not yet heard of anyone taking a proper dose of ARB and continuing aortic enlargement.
