I would definately go on line and google out diltiazem and missed heart beats and the same w. alcohol use w. the drug but just be sure it is either a doc or a pharmaceutical co. that offers you the info not some random person or study...if you have A Fib now is not the time to get creative..........................

I have been diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome. I was on diltiazem xt 120mg. I stopped taking the medicine 12 days ago could it still be in my system and be causing slow heart rate 40-45 during th day.

I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.

I can share my own experience with Diltiazem. Back in February I was put on Diltiazem 120 ER (extended release) and only had to take it once a day. Compared to the Verapamil (also a CCB) that I had to try years ago and I ended up in the ER, the Diltiazem was a dream to take. I had some fatigue, was a bit slow mentally. The hardest part was the nasty headaches I got during the first week or so. They would hit a couple hours after I took the pill then go away.

Two weeks ago my Cardio doctor changed my medication from Cardizem LA to Diltiazem CD. I know it's the generic brand of Cardizem. Anyway he raised my dosage from 240 mg. to 300 mg. For a whole week I had some terrible side effects. I blacked out once while sitting at my computer and then I came close to blacking out on a daily basis. I also felt off balance. I ended up going to my primary doctor, not for this, but for something else. I guess it was a follow up appointment.

First time, adenosine failed twice to bring down 180+ pulse. Diltiazem given, and worked. Sent home with extended-release 120mg diltiazem. Experienced breakthrough arrhythmias and eventual return to tachycardia 170bpm that lasted 8 hours before heading to the ER again. Given fast-acting diltiazem 60mg, which seems to be working so far, although I'm still experiencing arrhythmias. Cardiologist preliminarily diagnosed AVNRT and recommended ablation asap.

So if I switch off Metoprolol onto Diltiazem, will it control my tachycardia but also enable me (with the Cialis) to enjoy a sex life again? Has anyone else done this? Thanks for any input.

I know what you mean, jerry about the human meds. We haven't left for the appt yet because the Vet was tied up with surgeries. But we will be leaving shortly. I have had time to do some research on the meds Barney is on and it sounds like they are exactly what he needs but I still question the Diltiazem....I took that once before myself and didn't have good results with it and poor Barney can't tell me how he's feeling on it.

I take Metoprolol for a thick heart muscel & pvc, which it doesn't help much with the pvc's, Diltiazem was just added 120mg once a day. My doctor seemed somewhat reluctant to add the Diltiazem but said lets try it. My Blood pressure has been around 155/95. His reluctance just seems to scare me. Should I try it or should I not? If I do start taking it should I take it with the metoprolol or at different times?

Good Day, I would like to ask how long have u taken both the Metoprolol &amp; Norvasc? I was prescribed by my Internist recently Norvasc 2.5 mg with Metoprolol 25 mg. I used to take Metoprolol with Diltiazem CD 120mg 2X /day for almost 2 months but noticed a &quot;burning chest pain&quot; with Diltiazem that&#39;s why I stopped using it. But now I&#39;m afraid to take Norvasc, too.

If one never had swollen gums after taking Diltiazem Hydrochloride Extended-release Capsules USP for years and then suddenly has swollen gums (no redness or infection) could the Diltiazem suddenly cause this after getting a "deep cleaning" of the teeth, or 'probing for pocket depths' at a dentist?

s and they are really bothering me, to take a 60mg tablet, break it in half and try to see if this will help settle them down. She is having a lot of luck with this approach with her patients that experience symptomatic pvcs. Has anyone tried this? I really hope it works because if it does, maybe it can help others out there too. I like the fact that I don't have to take it all the time. This is not the time release version. It is out of your system in about 6 hours.

Referred to another doctor for cardioversion. He put me on diltiazem 180mg . I told him about the problems with tiazac. He told me the lower dose and because along with rythmol would be OK. Some symptoms returned but much less. Had cardioversion May 22, 2012. A-fib returned May 25 2012.Next time hope to be off diltizem. Also I think I will try magnesium (2 gm/day) . Any suggestions etc appreciated.

I had a brief bout of A-Fib, and the ER put me on 15mg Diltiazem every 6 hrs. My physician a couple of days later bumped that up to 30mg/6hrs. Around a week into taking the drug, I lost most of the sense of taste; sweet, sour, salt. Initially I just had a tiny sense of "savory" as the only thing I could taste. I began to not be able to eat, because everything made me sick to my stomach. I read in the Diltiazem side-effects that this is called "taste perversion".

Hi Guys...Currently I take 360mg DR of Diltiazem once daily...I worry that since sometimes I forget as to whether I have taken my pill or not due to a fast paced life / career. My question is...If I were to accidentally take a double dose of the stuff would I end up kicking the bucket?

I am on another brand/generic calcium channel blocker - Diz..don't recall, but I can check. I take what I think is the maximum does and had some of the symptoms you mention, but none real bad and my body has adjusted. Swelling of ankles was the the side-effect I most noticed, as did my wife. But it was not noticeable when dressed (a man) and I didn't have trouble putting on my shoes. I discussed with my cardiologist and he recommended I give it more time.

I take diltiazen and want to stop taking RX med and replace with herbal and natural alternative. I do not have high blood pressure.

Is there another therapeutic drug with fewer side effects? My loved one is on two drugs, Crestor and Verapamil...but the fatigue is almost debillatating. Help....any thoughts. Any successes out there?

It really depends on what you need. If this has been prescribed for you, and you are uncertain about it, then you can always ask your doctor for more clarification. It really just all depends on your individual circumstances.

Then comes Verapamil, which is a calcium channel blocker like Diltiazem. Perhaps is has something to do with the nature of how a Class IV anti-arrhythmic affects the cardiovascular system. It decreases or slows conduction through the AV node, and reduces the contractility of the heart, so it could be inappropriate in cases of heart failure. I believe that Diltiazem works on the reentrant type of SVT called AVNRT.

I am a 67 year old female with paroxymal AFib. In March of 2019 I had an AFib episode lasting for 30 hours with 2 breaks during that time. Went to ER and they found fluid around my lungs which dissipated on its own...no diuretic given. The BNP was 608 before conversion and immediately went down to 200 after conversion. I realize this is considered heart failure. I am now on Flecainide and Diltiazem and have been AFib free for over 2 months. Have been on Eliquis for a couple of years now.
