672586 tn?1280933658 At my request, my family physician has agreed to change my medication from daily metoprolol extended release 100 mg to daily diltiazem 120 mg. Can I simply switch without fear of withdrawal symptoms from the metoprolol? His instructions were to stop taking the metoprolol when I start the new diltiazem. I was not aware that I might face withdrawal from metoprolol.
Avatar n tn First time, adenosine failed twice to bring down 180+ pulse. Diltiazem given, and worked. Sent home with extended-release 120mg diltiazem. Experienced breakthrough arrhythmias and eventual return to tachycardia 170bpm that lasted 8 hours before heading to the ER again. Given fast-acting diltiazem 60mg, which seems to be working so far, although I'm still experiencing arrhythmias. Cardiologist preliminarily diagnosed AVNRT and recommended ablation asap.
5617263 tn?1374501466 The doctor in the ER put me on Cardizem (diltiazem) and changed my simvastatin to Lipitor. They instructed me to cut back on the metropolol to 25 mg. twice daily and to quit taking it if my blood pressure dipped below systolic fell below 100 or my diastolic below 60. My question is how to I gradually stop the metaprolol? I read that I should wean myself off of it in a week or two but no one seems to know how to go about it.
Avatar n tn I looked up calcium channel blockers and found: •Diltiazem (Cardizem LA, Tiazac), thus I conclude we are taking basically the same thing. I went to Diltiazem to get the lower cost, and also lost the slow acting, thus I have to take my mediation twice a day. I can't remember if the change also relates to the loss of swelling in my ankle, but as said I no longer have that side effect and I continue to take Diltiazem twice a day.
Avatar f tn Hi ! I have been taking Flecainide 100mg twice daily for 9 years for Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation. Since taking it I have noticed a small amount of hair loss each time I wash my hair but I still have my hair - it hasn't thinned or anything. I did notice fatigue for a while after starting the drug but I think once my body got used to it that passed. Hope all goes well for you.
Avatar f tn Two weeks ago my Cardio doctor changed my medication from Cardizem LA to Diltiazem CD. I know it's the generic brand of Cardizem. Anyway he raised my dosage from 240 mg. to 300 mg. For a whole week I had some terrible side effects. I blacked out once while sitting at my computer and then I came close to blacking out on a daily basis. I also felt off balance. I ended up going to my primary doctor, not for this, but for something else. I guess it was a follow up appointment.
177337 tn?1310059899 I just got back from my internist. She is truly a wonderful compasionate doctor that really wants to help keep me as healthy as possible. Of course all my blood tests came back perfect except that I was low in Vitamin D. I was actualy hoping something was off so that I had a reason for the increase in these damn episodic pvc's that have been lasting for hours at a time. She wants me to try a channel blocker called diltiazem on an "as needed" basis.
Avatar m tn Although I said not to tolerate Verapamil, a doctor gave me another calcium blocker, Diltiazem, when I had atrial fibrillation. When I came home, I had to decrease the daily dose to half and then stop using it totally. Diltiazem made me weak (possibly low BP or pulse) and the rhythm became very variable. Doctors should be careful when prescribing calcium channel blockers. By the way, my pulse pressure (in sinus rhythm) can vary between 14 and 130. What does this mean? Is this normal?
Avatar n tn Hi Guys...Currently I take 360mg DR of Diltiazem once daily...I worry that since sometimes I forget as to whether I have taken my pill or not due to a fast paced life / career. My question is...If I were to accidentally take a double dose of the stuff would I end up kicking the bucket?
Avatar f tn I am taking 25mg metoprolol and 60mg diltiazem daily. I was up to 50mg metoprolol and 120mg diltiazem daily at one point but have cut back recently. Since cutting back I have been less fatigued and seem to have less difficulty breathing although I still have the annoying headaches. I am trying to find the best way to deal with the SVTs and palpitations but maintain a decent quality of life. I don't believe these particular meds are going to do it for me.
Avatar n tn Can Diltiazem 24HR ER 180mg Caps one taken daily cause sleepiness and fatigue during the day?
Avatar f tn Then all of a sudden the frequency jumped to almost all day every day, with very little respite. Usually around 5 per minute. I saw a cardiologist, who precscribed diltiazem. I took 30mg 3x daily for a month and went back to the cardiologist, during that month, the PVC’s started coming every other beat in clusters of about 4 at a time, with multiple clusters a minute at times. I didn’t really notice any difference when taking the diltiazem.
Avatar m tn I just checked my prescription bottle and see the calcium channel blocker is Diltiazem 120 mg twice a day. This is a generic medication for the drug you mention, I believe. It is normal release, so I take it every 12 hours. I do believe the slow release isn't available in generic.
Avatar f tn I do have Diltiazem that I can take as needed for tachycardia and also take Flecainide twice daily. Do you normally have more trouble this time of year with your asthma because of allergies? Maybe taking something like Zyrtec everyday could help as well. Also maybe look around your environment to see if there are triggers for your wheezing that you could eliminate or reduce, such as washing any curtains, cleaning your mattress, eliminating indoor plants, adding an air filter, etc.
Avatar f tn I had afib for a decade and have taken diltiazem and flecainide over that period with pretty good control of symptoms. But now daily pvcs for past 6 weeks, almost always at night. Monitoring with Kardia device. Curious if others have experienced similar association of arrythmias?
Avatar f tn ve been dealing with tachycardia for some time now. It comes and goes. I found that 50mg of Metoprolol twice a day would mostly control it, but as a 33 year old man, I began to notice major erection issues since being on it. Talked to my doctor, they want me to start 120mg a day of Diltiazem. I'm a little nervous about it, but they assured me it's no more potent a medication. And they said it's much better in terms of no side effects on sexual side.
Avatar n tn I was very recently prescribed Wellbutrin XL, after trying several medications that have not helped [including Wellbutrin SR]. When I saw my doctor, she simply said 'I'm putting you on Wellbutrin twice daily' and I assumed it would be the SR. But what I was given was XL, with the instructions to take it twice a day [morning and around noon]. My doctor's office is closed today, or I would have asked her. I did ask the pharmacist, and he said that yes, this is okay.
Avatar f tn just started klonopin .05 twice daily on wednesday, making me extremly tired. does this go away within a few weeks? does my body need to just get used to it?
Avatar m tn 5MG once-twice daily, with a qty of 20! that is no way to taper some one off this medication, right? I talked to my aunt who is a doctor (she will not prescribe any narcotics through out our family because of DEA ref's etc) and she told me to go to a new doctor because stopping this drug is way to risky especially for someone my age (18). She actually doesn't even want me on the medication, because a few years ago I would take them to get high.
Avatar n tn I am currently on 30 mg of diltiazem 3x day and i was wondering how effective is this dose at bring down your blood pressure. and how much would it bring it down. a rough estimate would be great. for i am hoping to come off of this medicine.
Avatar f tn Have had to titrate meds up a lot. Diltiazem stopped, labetolol started (200 mg twice daily). Had to decrease it due to near syncopal episodes, but interestingly enough, I never had a low blood pressure even with spells. Currently on Labetolol 100 mg twice daily, Clonidine 0.2 mg three times daily, Spironolactone 25 mg twice daily, and Lasix 20 mg daily. Even with this regimen am very routinely running blood pressures 170/100-210/130! Heart rates finally 80-95.
1480441 tn?1287706112 I am a 34 year old woman who was diagnosed with PSVT (paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia). I have had the symptoms of psvt since I was 16 but only got diagnosed with it about 7 years ago. I've been taking Diltiazem 120mg on a daily basis ever since and recently started taking Metoprolol 25mg also on a daily basis( diltiazem in the a.m., metoprolol in the p.m.). I went to the dentist today for an abcess wisdom tooth, and they suggested I get dentures on the top.
627646 tn?1325170607 Hi, I have linked angina and was prescribed diltiasm 60mgs twice a day, last Nov which has been wonderful for 7 months. Avatar m tn I've had high BP since early 20s. Never ate salt, excercised to keep weight normal. In early 40s had to start taking medication. For the past 20 years I've taken about 15 different medications from doctor to doctor. Everybody knows the answer but my BP never is 120/80 except right after taking meds. 6 hours later it will be 170/102 an dhigher by the hour. Then when I go back to the dr, he/she says, "Hmmm it's high, we should keep an eye on that.
